The beat goes on…

Well, my latest estimate is that the earliest I’ll be leaving the repair parking lot is next Wednesday.  Even though the needed diagnostic tool was ordered with overnight delivery on this Wednesday, someone at the shipping company screwed up, and it wasn’t sent out until today.  Since it’s Friday, that means it won’t be delivered until Monday.  Then, after the analysis, parts will no doubt have to be ordered.  The optimistic view is that they would arrive and be installed on Tuesday.  I’m not holding my breath.

Since I dumped the tanks on Sept. 12th  and it is now the 23rd, the holding tanks are filling up, and the fresh water tank was on the low side of 1/3.  Austgen helped me fill the fresh water today, and on Monday, they will somehow get the rig to a dump station here.

IMG_3455This afternoon, I decided that since I’ll be here at least another five nights at this marvelous site, I was going to put out the DISH.  Might as well be able to doze off listening to the Walton's each night from shows I’ve DVR’d.  At least there aren’t any trees to obscure the satellite signal.  Smile

This little adventure has also been a learning experience for me as to how much I can do on 20 amps of electricity.  Turns out I can use the computer, run the fridge, have propane heat, and run the TV without blowing a fuse.  So far, so good.  I heat the water once a day on propane, and should be good as long as I get out of here before the snow flies.

I emailed Stephanie at Anahuac NWR today to let her know that an Oct. 1 arrival is very doubtful.

IMG_3457I can’t wait to get there to change the view out my front window.  I’m also hoping that the 18 wheeler traffic will lessen through the parking lot because of the weekend.  Perhaps there will be an apple festival or something that Emma and I can attend this weekend.  I really need to find somewhere to take her on a long walk.  The patch of grass in front of this facility is just loaded with sand burrs, and she ends up limping along with one foot in the air each time I take her out.

My brother, Kurt, called me last night with a question about one of our ancestors.  He’s into genealogy, and I’m not.  I doubted I could help, but when he asked how adopted Great Uncle Herman lost his leg way back in the early 1900’s, I actually knew the answer…in a bicycle accident!  That’s why my mother was never allowed to have a bicycle growing up, and never learned to ride one.  My grandfather said she could have a pony, but not a bicycle.  I suppose in those days you could keep a pony in the back yard around Humboldt Park in Chicago.

Enough rambling for tonight!  Goodnight, John-Boy…

Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later,  Judy

  1. Bummer, Judy. Sorry to hear that the fix is still dragging on. Looks like you have no choice but continue to hang around such a "garden spot".

At least you're having fun testing that 20 amp circuit to see how many things you can run without tripping the breaker. You're really living it up! ;c)

  2. I think you're doing great on 20 amps! Hope you have better weather than we are for prowling around this weekend!

  3. I guess you are going to have to start using their restroom.

Is there a park you can drive to for poor Emma? She must feel pretty cooped up.

You sure have had your share of repair place parking lots this year.

Do you have any good books to read? You know you can get a free Kindle ap on your computer and download free kindle books and well as many for less than $1. Once they are downloaded you don't need the internet to read them and you have them forever.

  4. One more weekend, one more 1/2 week, then you'll be out of there--that's my hope for you, anyway.

  5. This is so discouraging for you. Wish there was something I could do to help you. Don't they have a blue boy tote that they could use to empty your tanks some for you? Hope you get out and about this week-end.

  6. Lucky girl your mom, I'd rather have a pony than a bike anyday.

  10. I think you are handling it exceptionally well. I know it must be difficult, but you'll be far away from that place by this time next week.

  11. All things considered, I feel you are handling the situation great. I know you are ready to be "outa dodge", but just hang in there a little longer. This too shall pass!
Our thoughts are with you and hoping for the best results for you!
Take care and take a few deep breaths.

  13. I haven't been up to date with blog reading lately due to limited internet. I thought for sure you would be on the road by now. So sorry to hear you're still having problems. I think you must have a lot of patience - of course what else can you do at this point!!

  14. Your dilemma is a good example of one doing the best they can....under the circumstances. I've never quite understood many RV'ers huge power need for 50 amp service all the time either with maybe the exception of A/C on hot days. Got my fingers crossed here for ya in hopes you & Emma will be up and on your way again right soon:))

  15. Just a thought. I wouldn't be surprised if they charge you full price (+plus the shipping) for the diagnostic "tool". If so, ask them for "your" tool. If they give it to you then sell it on ebay, but I would think they take it off the bill or at least just charge you a small rental fee for the use of it.
    Just a thought
    thanks

  16. Good info for us as we have the same system as you have and will be on 20 amps at the Balloon Festival next week. We appreciate your doing the research :) Bummer that you are still delayed - hang tough.

  17. I think putting your dish up is an excellent idea. At least you could pass the time a little easier. I guess the temps aren't too hot and you're doing okay without air conditioning. We could never do without it here.

On our Tivo dvr, we don't have to put the antenna out to watched tivo'd programs. We don't need any kind of satellite to watch what we have already recorded.

Hang in there. I have thought of you often this week, since our motorhome is also being held hostage for service!

  18. Oh Judy,

I am sooo sorry to read of your continuing plight. I can't think of anything positive to say. But enough already. You and Emma deserve to get on with the fun parts of RVing

  19. So much for quick action and reliable service. I am impressed that you have been able to make your fresh water and holding tanks last this long!

  20. This is a real saga for sure. I'm really looking forward to hearing what the actual problem is and why it took so long and so many mechanics to figure it out.

  21. Hi Judy, its amazing how long repairs can take! I hope you found something fun to do this weekend. As I write, my little RV is still in the repair shop as well, but fortunately I am home and can get some needed things accomplished. Hopefully you will be on the road again soon.

  22. Looking forward to Mondays post to see what all is going on there. Too bad about having to stay so long. Another good story for the campfire!

    Chin up, all over soon!

    Cheers!

  23. 20 Amps is giving you quite a bit..but can you switch on your TV too?..As for the sand burrs..there were tons of them at Falcon Lake, but people put little soft booties on their dogs to walk them...Somewhere I have a photo..If I find it I will post it...Meanwhile, Hang loose, Live fully, Love unconditionally..and Laugh till the snot runs out your nose...Hey, we're still on the right side of the grass..just sayin' :-/
