Do bad things come in threes?

I sure hope so, because I’ve reached that threshold!  Remember when I hugged a tree yesterday?  Well, that was #1.  Today, as I had almost reached my destination, I pulled into a gas station to fill the tank so I’d be set for exercising the generator, etc.  Jack was waiting for me at the gas station, and as I pulled in, I had to maneuver around a truck with a trailer to get to the pumps.  Maybe it was because I was thrilled to see a friendly face, but because of the truck and trailer I had to cut it pretty tight to get into the slot.

IMG_1662Whatever the reason, I managed to ‘kiss’ the barrier at the end of the lane with this result.  Ugh!  The result is that I will have to replace that ruined storage door panel.  Jack hopped right over and said “Don’t cry now, wait until you get set up in the campground.”  I have to admit that I didn’t cry, but I did use a certain four letter word several times.  Sad smile

Thank goodness, Jack was there to lead me into the campground.  There is a gate barring entrance unless you know the code to get in.  I tried calling the owners to let them know I had arrived, but there was no answer.  Jack opened the gate, and led the way to my sight.

It is a huge site surrounded by Oak trees.  Jack helped me with all the basic setup chores before he had to leave.  That was such a treat.  There is even a wooden deck outside my door.

So, perhaps you’re wondering what #3 was?  Well, once I got into the site, it was obvious that the driver’s side rear dually tire was flat as a pancake.  I had noticed when I stopped at a couple of rest areas along the way that the tire appeared a little low on air.  Thank goodness, it didn’t blow out.  I’ll deal with road service tomorrow or Friday.  That’s also when I’ll call my insurance about the awning and the storage door.  I’m just so relieved to finally be here, that I’m too pooped to deal with those things tonight!

Thanks for stopping by…. talk to you later,  Judy

  1. I'm sorry to hear the bad news. But it all sounds like it can be repaired. Now your luck will change. I hope!

  2. You've had quite a day, but at least you arrived safely. Have you considered getting a tire pressure monitoring system? That way you will be notified if a tire is losing air or overheating. I think it's a good safety item for motor homes.

  3. Oh, dear, Judy, things have GOT to get better!

  4. This may be way out in left field, but I'm wondering if your recent illness (and perhaps still in your system) might have affected your depth perception problems or something of the sort. Now that you're settled for a while, don't hesitate to seek medical attention if there is even a hint of a problem.

Now .... onward and upward!! Enjoy your time!

  5. I think it might be time to sit for a couple of days and regroup!..some days you just wonder what else will go wrong!?..three things is more than enough!!

  6. I know that 'feeling' when you damage somthing on a Motor Home. I once tore a bin door completely off when I forgot to close it before moving the righ ahead & a pine tree took it right off for me. That was a $500 bill gone!! Well, now that you have had your 'pack of three' you can sit back & relax in the fine knowledge that nothing else can happen.....right??

  8. Well as you settle in for the summer you can take a big breath and know you can take your time to get repairs and get the tire fixed.

I agree that the bad luck should be over.

I'm glad there was a friendly face to help you.

  9. We scraped the side of our 2011 Road Warrior Fifth Wheel at an RV Park on a stump, I think we both cried. Our First crease in a panel that will be replaced in a month when we have our annual inspection....
Thank you for being brave enough to post pictures, I'm barely able to look at that side of the Trailer, for now....much less take pictures.
It made me feel better to know we are not alone.

  11. You're definitely due for a reversal of fortunes ... sending good wishes and thoughts your way to clear out any straggling bad luck vibes.

  12. Well, indeed your luck should be on the upswing since you've run through your "three" things. I am so sorry you have had these issues but now you are in a great place to just relax and rest a bit.
So glad you had a friend waiting for you.....aren't friends the greatest????
You take care and remember "things" can be fixed what is important is that YOU are ok.

  13. It can be hard to maneuver around gas stations. We usually opt for the truck lines at the big truck stops. But sometimes you don't have a choice. Sorry to hear of your 2nd bump and the flat, "stuff" does happen. Hope your luck changes. We have a tire monitoring system, you might want to consider one. There are a number of systems available, runs about $500, but will give you advance warning of any problems and a great deal of peace of mind. JMHO (just my humble opinion)

  14. Oh Judy, I'm so sorry for the mishaps but so very glad you arrived safely. I am wondering if perhaps your recent spell of feeling poorly had an effect on your maneuvering, as it's just not like you! Perhaps you were not at your best and still feeling a bit punky? At least not 100% you yet. It's also good to know friend Jack is around for a bunch of reasons! Now kick back, rest up and just chill out for a while, eh? Regroup and relax!

  15. Judy,

How many times do we have to tell you we love you? Now STOP having thse problems to get our attention:).

  16. You're a trooper getting through all that after just being ill. If it was me, I'd hang up the keys. I remember when Gordon put the first scratch down the driver's side of our truck when it was 3 months old. I was so upset!

  17. Things will be better now that you are with a friend and just look at all that support for you from blogland. Take care and God bless! Judy from Rvlifeonwheels

  18. When we pull our Hiker into a tight gas station, I cringe..McGuyve just winds around and manages get us in..sometimes I have to get out and help get us out..You don't have anyone to help you...Hey, maybe you should teach Emma some barking signals and let her out to help you park...OK< not funny.
Now....get out the chair, the wine, some good music, take a deep breath...and relax. Love your spot!

  19. It definitely seems like bad luck comes in bunches. You definitely have had your share and should be in line for some smooth sailing. Take some time to relax and recover.

I'm wishing you some peaceful days and enjoyable family and friend time!

  20. I am glad you have reached your quota of problems. On a positive note, just think of the tales you have acquired for telling around the campfire :)

  21. Been there, done that, need to find the t-shirt...our lesson: never back up without a spotter! The most important thing -- you & Emma arrived safely. Now kick back, relax & enjoy!

  22. Bless your heart, you have really been through it in the last several days. Thank God for Jack. At least you had a shoulder to cry on..

  23. When you mouthed a few four letter words, I hope they were words like LOVE, GOOD, SAFE, WELL, LUCK, BEST, FINE, LIFE, GOLD, HOME, HOLY, or a few others like them!

  24. Ugh! So glad Jack was there - it is times like these when a friend/companion really helps!

I've always thought I would be happiest with a beat up car (or rig) so any boo-boos would just be another ding, large or small - plus, other drivers would tend to get out of your way. Odel, though, likes the pristine look. :) Guess I am lucky that he keeps our vehicles looking great.

  25. Phew...finally time to move forward with no more bad stuff. Now look forward to all the great things coming your way!

  26. Some days are way worse than others for sure. I'm hoping 3 small 'oopsies' will mean no big 'oopsies' in the future!

  27. Ah, Judy, that stuff happens to the best of us!! We've all been there a time or two and it can all be fixed. God made margaritas for days like those. We are glad you are feeling better and are safe in Indiana. Enjoy your visit. A

  28. I second John and Ann's comments. We have duct tape holding together the edge of our mh thanks to a run in with a pole at a gas station and that was with me spotting!! Get some rest and keep it in perspective. Your safe, Emma's safe. If it aint life or death don"t sweat it..

  29. Since you read our blog you know I just replaced 7 of these doors, so dinging one doesn't seem so bad. Just get it done and don't look back. Its like buying tires or getting the oil changed, another cost of doing this stuff called RVing.

  30. I would just like to say well done for driving it around at all - it's HUGE! But then of course I am not used to these things although I do have to turn our Land Rover around in a fairly small space. Actually, it's not a small space at all if I'm honest but the Landy does have a fairly rubbish turning lock.
I always get encouraging words though such as - now then, here we go .... ooop, up the embankment .. must make a note to get another set of tyres ...

  31. I did exactly the same thing on my first trip (and I'm driving only a 24 footer). A new door is easily ordered and attached. But I know the feeling. Surprisingly, it seems most RVers have done something similar, but you don't hear about it until you tell them about yours.

Now that you're settled, I hope things are going better for you. Looks like a really nice campsite!

  32. Well, I'm so sorry about your round of bad luck, but just think - it's all uphill from here.
