Well, I took all of your suggestions into account, and must tell you that moving to a different campground in the area is not an option for a number of reasons. I’m not going to go into all of those reasons. After checking my gas gauge, I decided to stay in my present site, and just run the generator until things are fixed.
When I turned on the TV last night, there was an error message on the screen that suggested I unplug the DISH receiver for a minute, and then plug it in again. After trying this three times, the message was still appearing and suggesting that I call technical support. I still had all of the DISH channels, I just couldn’t access my DVR programs or do any recording. It was late, so I just went to bed. I got the same message today, so I called support. The result is that DISH is sending me a new receiver, and I won’t be able to record or access my saved programs for about a week. I’ll just have to live like we all did before the advent of recorders.
I thought I’d provide a couple of pictures to more fully explain the Life Vest fittings that my daughter, Robyn, does.
These are the colored sensors and defibrillator pads that are held against the body by the vest.
The battery pack for this technology is in a ‘purse’ that is carried over the shoulder. If the sensors detect a loss of heartbeat, the defibrillator gives a shock to restart the heart. Each vest has to be fitted so that it fits snuggly on the patient, and instructions on how to use it are given. I hope this clears up any confusion about what this is. Isn’t technology amazing?
When Emma and I went on our constitutional this morning, we stopped at my friend Jack’s rig to chat for a bit about the recent happenings around here. He, of course, is not in the 20% of us that do not have electricity. He is one of the few fulltimers that happen to be at this campground. He stopped by this evening as Emma and I were sitting outside. We had a great time marveling at the differences between most of the folks here and the life that both of us live. Jack is heading out on Tuesday for Yellowstone. I have such great memories of my time there last summer…
THE END!
So long, Jack! See you down the road! (this is the only picture he would let me take of him)
Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later, Judy
Those life vests are really incredible. We do live in a wonderful time of science and technology. Since all we have is an antenna and very seldom record anything, guess I don't know what I'm missing. Hope they get your electric fixed on Tuesday.
ReplyDeletenice ending!!...those vests are amazing!!..we don't have a PVR .we watch enough TV as it is...enjoy your 4th of July!!
ReplyDeleteMan, those life vests are pretty amazing. Sure would give me a heart attack if I was sleeping and all of a sudden the defibrillator decided I needed to be shocked back to life!
ReplyDeleteThe vests are amazing! I've never heard of them and I'm so glad you explained them!
ReplyDeleteI'm so addicted to pausing and going back with our DVR (thank God we got one for the motorhome at Quartzsite!) that I find myself wanting to pause the radio in the Jeep or cable tv if we happen to have it!!!
Good luck with the electricity issue!
I wish now we had gotten the DVR, but were impatient at the time to get it set up and they did not have any in stock, so this way at least we watch less reruns:)
ReplyDeleteJack seemed like a very nice and helpful friend to have around. Hope you get to cross paths again sometime. Is he a blogger?
ReplyDeleteLike the vest, I remember the days before defibrillators, wow what technology has done just imagine how many people are alive today that wouldn't be. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna..
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the info on the vest and actually showing a picture of it. Sorry to read about all of your problems lately, but the pool sure looks nice. Try to enjoy your 4th.
ReplyDeleteThanks for explaining the life vest - I was wondering about that. Isn't it a good feeling to just make a decision (staying put) and no more worrying about it. Forgot to mention earlier that I love your header picture - it almost scares me each time I open your blog - too funny.
ReplyDeleteWow.. that vest is really interesting!

I hope they get the power fixed soon. What a pain for you. Maybe they will buy you some fuel!
ReplyDeleteThanks for explaining the vest..I didn't know such a thing existed.
We LOVE our Tivo drv and won't be without it. No commercials and you wan watch your programs so much quicker and on your own schedule.
The "life vest" is an amazing piece of technology...I feel your pain with no electric...but I think maybe this time when they get it fixed, it will stay fixed..In the meantime, enjoy the pool, kick back and relax..sometimes the TV is an annoyance when listening to just the "sounds of nature" :-)
ReplyDeleteGlad you came to a decision that worked for you! The vest is amazing and glad it helps your dughter... I'd be upset if my DVR went out too... funny how we become dependent on the new technology. Have fun & Travel safe
ReplyDeleteDonna
Just getting back to reading blogs once in a while, hadn't heard about your troubles. May have to read back a few pages! No DVR for us! We don't even watch TV except for the occasional news broadcast, so we can't relate to what a lack of DVR would mean, but we can sympathize with your sense of loss just the same!
ReplyDeleteNice photo of Jack...living this lifestyle seems to warrant many of those type of goodbye photos.
ReplyDeleteHope your power gets fixed soon! Enjoy your 4th!
Hope you are getting a discount because of the loss of electricity. What a bummer.
ReplyDeleteHey, we tried out your skinny dipping after dark in the pool idea. Unfortunatly, the pool has big flood lights. You wouldn't have any extra money for our bail??? ;c)
Thank Jack for "the end" photo! :)
ReplyDeleteSo, could you make a rest of the season move to the spot Jack is vacating? That might help all of us rest more easily. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for explaining the life vests...I wondered. I am curious as to what patients wear these. Two of my sons have implanted defibrillators/pace makers so am wondering if the vest has some advantage. It sure would be easier to change the batteries!!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great "The End" photo...has Jack seen it?
Those vests are incredible, thanks for explaining their use. Based on all the info you have and all the circumstances, I know you made the right decision.
ReplyDeleteTake care!
I bet you'll have a real smooth run coming up soon - it's the law of averages!!
ReplyDeleteOh, and that pool does look soooo good.
Sorry about the dying DVR. Carol always says, what did we do before Tivo. She can't stand watching a program and having to watch all the commercials. Good Luck with getting the replacement quick.
