Changing habits

I don’t know about you, but once I get into a habit it’s hard for me to change.  Take laundry, for instance.  For the last several decades, I’ve chosen one day of the week to do my laundry.  Now that I have a working Splendide washer/dryer in my rig I’m having difficulty changing my once a week schedule.  I need to get into the habit of doing a small load every couple of days.  (a small load is all that is possible in a Splendide.)  I haven’t mastered that change yet, so today I spent all day doing laundry.  Ugh!  Of course, I interspersed that with a long walk with Emma, vacuuming, and other dreaded household chores.  Sad smile  It wasn’t exactly what you would call an exciting day around here.  Anyone else struggling with changing habits?

Since I was pretty well tied to the rig today, I decided to take out one of several books I have accumulated along the way.  I used to be an avid reader, but have gotten away from it since I started fulltiming.  I just grabbed one of those chick flick type books and started reading in between chores.  I’m a pretty fast reader, and I’ve only got 50 pages left.  That was my problem in the past.  Once I got started on a book, I had a hard time putting it down until the last page was read.  I’m going to make myself wait until tomorrow to finish it off!

I’m thinking spring is on it’s way down here in Mississippi.  Two days ago the first purple martins arrived, and this evening, while sitting outside, I got my first mosquito bite of the season.  It’s been almost six weeks since I’ve had to deal with those little buggers.  They could have stayed away a lot longer as far as I’m concerned.

I’m afraid it’s not a very newsy day today, and I haven’t taken a picture in two days!  Egad, I think I’m in withdrawal.  Surprised smile

Thanks for stopping by…. talk to you later,  Judy

  1. I just thought of a way to change the habit. How about having a bucket/container/bag that holds what the Splendide will hold and then to a load? Just a thought.

  2. I hear you about the laundry. The machines where we stay in Scotland are washer/dryer combos and hold perhaps three pairs of jeans. Takes forever to do any significant amount of clothes! Since there's two of us, I just let it stack up, bite the bullet and hit a laundromat about once a week. Gives me an excuse to wander about whatever town we're in. :)

  3. I love our Splendide washer/dryer. I do small loads, usually put one in before I leave for the day and fold it up when I get home.

Of course, sometimes it's pretty wrinkled, but I'm not doing a cover shoot for GQ magazine. ;c)

  4. Changing habits has been one of the things we work at all the time. We were so anal about doing things exactly how we have always done them before. Once we truly began living this lifestyle as we feel it should be lived, we are now so flexible. We always look to see who the heck we are, because we are not those same folks that lived that boring life doing the same old thing the same old way every time.

  5. I would even be grateful for a mosquito in Wisconsin. I want spring really really bad!

  6. I've never been a real habit type person. Pretty care free and flexible which seems to fit into this lifestyle real well. The "habit" I'm having trouble with are the gas prices that are making me sit still in one place so much longer.

As far as laundry, when we run out of underwear the laundry gets done.

  7. Oh no, not the dreaded mosquitoes again!
I have really enjoyed using our Splendide. I have no problem doing a load or two each day, I just try to time the items that wrinkle so that I can be there to take them out of the machine. For the non-wrinkle clothes, I sometimes even do a load during the night. Even bedding isn't a hassle since I can put it in the machine in the morning and forget about it.

  9. Any day relaxing and reading a good book is a great day - except for the laundry part, I guess.

  10. Old habits are oftentimes hard to break. Having a Splendide as well, I try to wash a load or two every other day, but we have been known to find a laundromat to "catch up," which we don't like to do.

  11. Don't know if we will have one on board or not. But since Craig likes the Big motor homes we probably will. Funny, doing the laundry has been one thing I have been thinking about. Mostly wondering where to put the dirty laundry basket.

It's got to be easier for you than for a couple because you only have half the wash.

They say it takes 21 days to change a daily habit. Wonder how many days to change a weekly one.

  12. I'm one who does laundry when I run out of clean underwear. I really don't mind going to a laundromat, but I'm getting to the point where I would like a place with a nice size washer and dryer. But I have to be there the second the dryer stops because I hang & fold immediately - can't stand wrinkles, and can't stand ironing even more!

  13. I'm not too fussy about what shape my clothes are in when they come out of the dryer just as long as all the food stains are out of my shirts. Have had to break some very major habits in my life like alcohol & cigarettes so everything after those two don't seem quite as bad. This darn eating thing sure comes with some built in bad habits though.......

  15. I am lucky and still have super size on our washer so a couple of loads of dark, and one of white a week is it, I am a fast reader to and have been known to read a paperback in a a day, need to slow down and enjoy it like a glass of wine. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna.

  16. More laundry talk... Love my washer/dryer to, can't imagine our travels without it as I really do not like going to laundromats. I do a couple of loads every other day or so. So, what are you reading? I'm readin Janet Evanovich "Wicked Appetite" (cute, a nice light read). I also have a bedroom book and a car book, so love to read.

  17. Well, I just have to chime in on the washer/dryer. I also have a Splendide (which is currently not agitating, grrrrrr). This has necessitated a trip to the local laundermat in the fine little city of Salt Springs, FL... not the nicest laundermat that I have seen. Even though the Splendide dries half a load of wash, it can wash a full load like a regular washer. I put two queen size sheets in at a time, but dry each individually. Also, you might try those little "dryer balls" that help with the wrinkles. You can find them at Walmart. Since I didn't keep my iron (hate ironing), I just put up with the wrinkles, or put an item in the dryer for a few minutes to get the bad wrinkles out. Love your pics BTW...
