And the thunder rolls…

Oh my goodness, we are really having a thunderstorm right now!  I know if I were further north it would be snow, so I’m happy to be where I’m at.

As I went in for my first day of work, Doug, the volunteer coordinator, told me he didn’t have me scheduled to work today.  He met with me briefly, and gave me the normal volunteer form to fill out at my leisure.  I’ll report for work on Thursday at 8:00.  We did talk briefly about what I’ll be doing here, and I’m happy to report that I’ll be leading some tours, and helping the biologists with a breeding bird survey.  I was pleased about that, but his next words were not so pleasant to my ears.  He said, “You know of course that as a solo you will be doing 32 hours/week?”  I said, no, it was my understanding that it was 24 hours.  I’m a little bummed about that.  I could pack up and leave, but I think I’ll give it a go and see what happens.  Being in the field and doing bird stuff doesn’t seem like work to me anyway.  :)

I was glad he sent me back home after the brief meeting as it seems my physical ailments were back to square one this morning.  :(  If things don’t improve by tomorrow morning, it looks like a trip to a doctor for me.  Yuck!  My sister, Pam, has admonished me that this crud has gone on long enough, and I should get myself to a clinic.  Okay, okay!  I sure hope I feel better tomorrow, though.

Thanks for stopping by…. talk to you later,  Judy

  1. I've had to work a 32 hour week at Ft. Pulaski, and a 40 hr week at Lassen, which turned into 56 hrs most weeks. Maybe the National Park Service rewuires more hours.

"Get yourself to a clinic" is good advice, and you have a couple of days to do it before you start work!

  3. Seems like a full time job! But if you are doing things you enjoy I guess it's not so bad. Do yo get to take off if you are sick?

Don't over do if you can help it.

  4. Wonder if that was the same storm we had this morning!!! The thunder out here seems to go on forever!
Sorry you are still sick, take care, even if that means a trip to the doctor!

  5. I agree with the doctor thing, if it is viral it should be improving by 10-14 days after that it certainly may be a bacterial secondary infection. I really hate going to the doctor for something I think will get better on its own but sometimes waiting too long is just as bad. My doc once scolded me telling me its alright to come in when you are sick that that's what he was there for. I'm better about it now so I encourage you to take my docs advice too.

  6. I've been wondering about you and storms all day with darn storm! The wind is blowing a gale, even out here in the very west edge of AZ!

I have to agree with your sister! It's time to get checked out... this coming from someone just like you in more than name!

  7. Sounds like a Z-Pack of antibiotics is in order for you. Kick that crud!

Bummer about the work hours, hopefully you'll enjoy the work and it won't seem to be so long.

  8. Sounds like you need something a little stronger to cure your ills. Too bad about the longer hours but maybe it'll work out to be enjoyable work.

  9. Just the fact of being TOLD I had to do 32 hours instead of 24 would bum me out. I feel the same as you about Doctors, but......

  11. Just maybe the threat of going to the doctor will do the trick. It seems to work for me :-) Take care and get yourself seen.

  12. I would think I'd died and gone to heaven if I could spend 32 hours a week with the birds!

    Get to feeling better soon!!

  13. I think you should go to the doctor too :)
    Better safe than sorry.

32 hour work week? I would take that! I'm at 40 right now and it's torture!!!

I could do less 8 hours a week for sure!

    Cheers!

  14. Majority wins - go to the doctor. I would not be a happy volunteer if I thought I was going to be working 24 hours and then out of the blue they told me it would be 32. Hopefully, it'll be so much fun you won't care.

  15. 32 hours..hmmm...not bad..not great but doing what you love would outweigh the extra hours!..take care of yourself!!

  16. I hope you feel better soon, Judy, whether it's on your own or with medical help. You will need to be in tiptop physical shape to work those extra hours.

  17. Is there a particular type of bird you'll be watching, Sand Hill Cranes perhaps? Hope you feel better soon. Your blog is one of my favorites...

  18. Do they not make your hours-expected clear when you sign up for the work? If they don't I am sure I would be upset. Hope you get to feeling better soon.
