Pidge and Don come to visit

It’s always a good day when you get to meet cyber friends in person.

This afternoon, PIDGE, and her husband Don stopped at the refuge.  I’ve been ‘following’ Pidge’s blog for some time now, so was pretty excited to get to meet this couple in person.  As I took their picture in front of one of the crane displays in the Visitor’s Center, I was thinking that this may be the only view they would get of these endangered cranes.  I told them I would take them on a tour to try to find some live birds, but I had my doubts we would be successful now that breeding season has begun.

As many of you already know, meeting folks for the first time from the RVing world is generally like meeting old friends.  Add to that the fact that we read each other’s blogs, and it was a nonstop chit chat from the get go.   And yes, we did talk about all of our other blogging friends out there in blogland.  Were all of your ears burning??  SmilePoor Don could hardly get a word in edgewise!

Just as I was about to think we were going to get skunked in finding any cranes, Pidge spotted Crossbill and her young man next to a pond.  Whew!  I was relieved that Pidge got to see her first crane ever, and that it was a pair that I had talked about on the blog.

After the tour, Pidge and Don headed back to their RV park to give their young dog, Rusty, a walk about, and we agreed to meet later for diner.  I had originally planned to guide them to The Shed, the BBQ joint featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, but it was not to be.  This was the Battle of the Bayou Saturday in Ocean Springs, and the kayak regatta’s final destination was The Shed.  That meant hundreds of people, and a very long wait for food.  I, for one, was not interested in waiting three hours for some BBQ.  Plan B was to go to Huck’s.  This is another not to be missed eatery if you are in the area.  Above is the view up the bayou to the Singing River from our outside table.

It’s not quite as ‘rustic’ as the Shed, but almost!  That turquoise building with the pink railing is the outdoor bathrooms.  The rest of the volunteers were invited to travel along with us, and you know you don’t have to ask fulltimers twice if they want to go out to eat. Open-mouthed smile  We all enjoyed the view, the food, and the conversation.  I was humbled when Pidge and Don picked up my bill.  Thanks so much, even though it was not at all expected.  As I said at the beginning of this post, it’s a very good day when you get to meet your friends in person.

Thanks for stopping by…. talk to you later,  Judy

  7. Meeting people is kind of a mixed bag for me. Am always very nervous & it takes me awhile to feel comfortable with folks. Some turn out to be good friends, some just passing aquaintances.

  11. I'm maybe a bit like Al, might get nervous about meeting some, but others I know long before I meet them it will be perfect, and it is. Lucky Pidge got to meet the "bird queen"!! I have followed Pidge as well, and it still amazes me how small the world can be with the magic of the internet.
