I think I’m generally a pretty upbeat person, but I have to admit that today I’m really feeling tired of all this brake stuff. The repair facility is frustrated because the insurance company has not given the okay to order the needed computer board. They came to me this morning and asked if I would consider calling the insurance company and complaining about the delays since they had tried everything they could to get them to move on this case. I did and reiterated to them the litany of events since Sept. 12., and my circumstances of having to live in a parking lot for the last three weeks. I’m afraid I was close to breaking down and my voice was rather shaky as the stress from the last three weeks came boiling up inside me. I won’t go into all of the details of that conversation, but I’m very disappointed that it changed nothing, and no decision will be made until next week.
I think the fact that it is once again pouring rain outside for the sixth day in a row isn’t helping my mood any. I just want this to be over with. Sorry this is such a downer tonight. I just needed to vent my frustrations a little to someone.

I know you say that Roybins is not a pet friendly place, but is it a "Belt" friendly place? Maybe you could put Emma in a kennel for a few days and get away from the rig.

ReplyDeleteI think all your followers ought to call the insurance company! For starters, who is the insurance company? Let's Twitter and Facebook and complain about these guys, they say social networks are GREAT for getting the word out to companies who aren't serving their customers right!

ReplyDeleteJust curious, is there a Best Western near you. Our insurance covered a stay in a motel when we were layed up.
We lucked out and there was a dog-friendly hotel within a mile of the shop.
I think calling the insurance company was a good idea. Did their adjuster come and do an inspection yet?
ReplyDeleteNow would be a good time to read the extended warranty very carefully so you know what is covered and excluded.
We had an issue w with a generator repair on our other motorhome. I read the contract and felt it should be covered. They denied the claim several times before agreeing with me...and it was all because I had read the contract. We argued about an inside bolt vs an outside bolt.
The point is read the policy and argue if you think it should be covered.
Keep calling the adjuster and keep him on top of it.
Hang in there.
My goodness woman, you have taken more than I possibly could. I would have blown my top days ago. Courage, hang in there. Just keep on top of your adjuster, a little bit of hollering might help.

ReplyDeleteReally sorry to here of your issues and the length of time it appears to be taking to get any resolve. How much is the computer board? Regardless of the insurance companies decision I assume you will want your rig up and running. So have the shop order it. Either way the part will arrive and the brakes will get fixed. Then deal with the insurance company. I have this weird feeling, especially since the insurance company is playing run around with you.
ReplyDeleteI would suggest you join the RV.NET forum and discuss this problem with the thousands of RVers who frequent the forum. Maybe one of them has some experience with your INS Co and they can advise you how to get them moving.
ReplyDeleteAt least you can name the INS Co and see if the exposure on the forum will get them moving.
Be careful about buying the part ahead of approval since that seems to doom you to never getting paid.
You have a lot more patience with them than I would have. The squeaky and loud wheel gets the most attention.

Very sorry to hear that nothing has happened from the insurance company yet. I can only imagine...I know you are rightly upset and very frustrated. Unfortunately sometimes you really have to get almost ugly to get something done with the insurance company. I know that is not your nature, but...

Treat yourself and Emma to a night or two in a nice dog-friendly spa, spread the word about your uncooperative insurance company (We'll be happy to help you there!), vent when you need to, and hang in there. It will get resolved. Really, it will.

There is a woman on the staff who fields complaints like yours and usually gets positive results from the insurance company, dealer, or whoever is being pissy about it. I agree you ought to mention the name of the insurance company, so some unspecting soon-to-be RVer won't make the same mistake. And of course your friends will nag the hell out of them, lol.

The problems with Insurance companies and refusing to honor contracts is probably the main reason why I decided not to buy the extended warranty for our new 5'er. I'd rather pay myself than be forced to go through all the hassles and roadblocks they put up.

Venting is perfectly OK. Got to let off steam. A shame the insurance company is dragging its heels. If the adjuster was an RVer himself, I bet he'd have a better understanding of what you're going through and push for a speedy resolution. Rain or not, you need a break ... get in the car and go somewhere, if you can.
ReplyDeleteHang onto the thought there are sunny days ahead despite all these frustrations and setbacks. I thought the RV Net suggestion was good because there are a lot of fellow RV'ers on there with a lot of knowledge, understanding and willingness to help. I won't give you my thoughts about insurance companies or I would be off on another rant. Only thing I can say is to hang in there Judy and keep a keen eye out for those dark clouds to soon part and reveal a very welcome silver lining. You are going to emerge as stronger person because of all this.

Hopefully on Monday you can call the insurance company again and move up the chain of command until you find someone who will actually work with you. Don't give up! I agree that rainy days make for a more depressing mood. The sun is finally shining in Wisconsin so hopefully it's headed your way!

ReplyDeleteI can certainly understand your frustration and just wish there were something I could do to help. There are several good suggestions from your commenters, and I would like to add that you should request to speak to a supervisor, and keep going up the chain of command until you get some satisfaction. It also helps to write - letters or e-mails, documenting all the events, and send them to everyone you can think of - the insurance company as well as RV advocates like Trailer Life (or Motorhome Life), RVnet, etc. No company likes bad publicity, and your letters just might get them moving. All the best!
ReplyDeleteThat is so awful. We have not purchased any extended warranties because we have heard stories like this a number of times. This sure makes me not want to rethink that decision.

What you have to understand about insurance companies is that they are not there to help you...they are there to collect your premiums and find ways to NOT pay out when you need them. Dragging their feet on claims is one way they do it...hoping you will just give up and pay out of pocket out of frustration. Maybe some of your fellow RVers could recommend a better insurance co.

He tends to get results because of the size of his audience. Escapees has an advocate, too, with an even bigger audience than Nick. And, of course, there's us, your lowly readers. I second the suggestion that you also tap into RV.net or any other Forum that you are a member of .... you will get great feedback immediately. There are ombudsmen available to help you achieve a satisfactory settlement.

I agree with the rest you have put up w/ more than enough, by now I'd have gone postal on someone. as everyone has said public pressure does a lot. Also every insurance company is governed by a state insurance board...go to the one in the state that licenses them Something I have used in the past that worked, tell them you will be carrying a picket sign along a busy road or mall, or near a dealership stating your treatment. They really hate that. As another one said kick ass and take names.
