I’m running out of time!

I spent the morning with the same group of five people working on the Outdoor Education Programs, but to be honest my mind wasn’t really on it.  In four days, I have to be ready to fly out of Houston and begin my first cruise adventure of my life.  My delays in getting here have condensed the amount of time I have to get ready.  Tomorrow, I have to drive a refuge vehicle to Beaumont, TX, and help a staff member man a booth at a Beef Producers Expo!  The staff member is trying to get a grant to help eradicate feral hogs on our sister refuge, McFadden NWR.  I will be working the booth to help local land owners support that quest.  So, chalk off tomorrow for getting ready for the cruise.  :(  Since I’ll be using a refuge vehicle, I can’t stop and do things like get a hair cut, shop for luggage, or buy some Dramamine.

This morning, Stephanie, the volunteer coordinator, suggested I spend Sunday training in on running the VIS, and attend another work meeting on Tuesday to finish up the education programs.  I told her NO!  After tomorrow, I have to concentrate on getting ready for my adventure!  Besides getting a hair cut, luggage, and Dramamine, I have to get Emma to a vet for a kennel cough vaccination, get her to the kennel she’ll be staying at, figure out what to take along, pack, and prep the rig for my being gone for almost three weeks.  Yikes!  There’s also the issue of getting my recalcitrant printer to work so I can do the boarding pass business with the airline to get to Barcelona 24 hours before I depart.
_MG_6457Late this afternoon, Emma and I took a ride around Shoveler Pond to try to get some pictures.  To my great disappointment, there was nothing to really see on the drive.  :(   I did try to take a pic of one bird, but the camera wouldn’t work.  Turns out, I had left the battery in the charger in the rig.  I guess I would have been a lot more upset, had there been fantastic photo opportunities.  :)
_MG_6476We spent the evening sitting outside and watching the numerous flocks of snow geese continuing to arrive on the refuge.  That is until a little after 6:00, when the mosquitoes began to get active.  :)

It seems my hit counter has also decided not to work.  What’s up with that?  This gadget counts how many people view the blog each day, and suddenly all that shows up is a big red X where the counter is positioned.  :(  I tried switching from my Sprint air card (which was giving me some problems) to the not especially strong wifi signal available at the RV sites.  Same thing happened!  Ack!!  Any suggestions?

Thanks for stopping by….talk to you later,  Judy

  2. If you use Stat Counter, you might need to click on it, and then click again when it comes up. It seems to need to update every so often. If that doesn't help, I'm sure Rick will know what's wrong.

Good luck with your cruise preparations!

  3. Take a deep breath and relax. You know you will manage to get everything done in time for your wonderful cruise. Emma is sure going to miss you. Those alligator photos were scary - glad you had a good zoom.

  4. Your hit counter is hosted by http://prowebcounters.com/ , but if you visit that site you'll see it's now parked, meaning the domain name is registered but it's not being used at this moment, which also mean, the counter service has been stopped.

If you remember what your hit count was last set at (X), you can consider go to www.statcounter.com, open up a new free account, then start the new counter with the X value.

    Hope this help! :)

  5. I use Sitemeter and once in a while it doesn't show up. I can refresh the screen a couple of times and still no sitemeter - at that point I close the blog and reopen, and there it is. Who know?

  6. You are going to sooooo love your cruise. At least I HOPE so! I've been on three, and they are wonderful. If you want to be busy, there are lots of choices, if you want to relax, another bunch of choices. And the food - well, you'll see! Can't wait for you to post photos from your cruise. Have a wonderful time.

  10. CeiPui is 100% correct on the problem with your webcounter. You might as well remove that gadget from your sidebar.

I've never been on a cruise either, so I'll be looking forward to your reports.

  12. If you're going to the Med after starting in Barcelona, one thing you do need to do while there is to watch your purse. Lots of pickpockets in Barcelona. We were there last February going all through the Med. and I have to say, it was really quite good. Oh and another recommendation...take a Kindle for the days at sea. YOu'll need something to read occasionally.

enjoy your time in the old world!!

  14. A couple of years ago I did several black cow heads for the Texas Beef Producers to use for demonstrations. If you see any slightly used fake cow heads hanging around, let me know!

Has Emma ever boarded before? We used to call it "dog jail".

  15. Have never been on a cruise. Too many people in too small a space for me but I hear most folks really enjoy themselves......especially from the food point of view.

  23. Glad you got your counter problem under control. My weather widget kept doing that, so I finally gave up and installed a different one. Have a great time on your cruise, and take lots of pictures.

  24. Have fun on your cruise, I just love 'em! Might try some ginger capsules instead of Dramamine, no side effects and works great! Available at any pharmacy. Start taking them day before the cruise.
