Yep, I’ve got it. I’ll be pulling out of Tamarac in exactly two weeks, and I’m ready to hit the road. I’m mentally ready now, but I’ve still got stuff to do. Toward that end, I’ve started the pack up process and cleaning that needs to be done. Since it’s been dreary and rainy for the last six days, it was a good day today to launder all the throw rugs, and towels that I use to cover Emma’s ‘perches’. I use the washer and dryer that’s in the bunk house for that. I also did all sheets, blankets, and my bed quilt. The washer up there can handle those bulky items.
In between showers yesterday, this young Eastern bluebird perched on the laundry lines outside the rig. By next spring, his head and back will be brilliant blue as well.
As usual, I’m getting excited about leaving a finished assignment. My head has been conjuring up images that Nurse Ratchet and I will see on our journey south.
Kurt has never been to Yellowstone National Park before. It’s one of my most favorite places in this country, so I’m anticipating a wonderful visit.
Here’s another park he’s wanting to see. I’m more than happy to oblige. Can you blame me for getting excited?
While I’ve been dreaming away about pending journeys, my neighbors, John and Bridget, have been as busy as beavers.
They’ve been spiffing up their fifth wheel for a trade-in they hope to make in Kentucky. They’ll be gone about ten days or so to make a fast trip down to pick up their new to them motorhome. John has his alarm set for six tomorrow morning to head out, and wanted to know if he should wake me up. I declined. Safe travels friends! They should return before I hit the road, so I’ll get to see their new digs. There’s a rumor that they may be attending a Cave-a-Palooza on their way back in Sandwich, IL. Lucky ducks!
As my time here gets short, I also reflect back on what hasn’t been so wonderful. Number one on my list this summer is not ticks, mosquitoes, or deer flies. Here’s what it is:
Every ten days to two weeks, the water here turns disgustingly brown. Too much iron in the water. Efforts were made initially to try to solve the problem, but nothing seems to have worked. I’ve been like a broken record complaining about it. I hope they take enough interest in this problem to really solve it. It plays havoc with my toilet bowl and washer/dryer and all of my pipes in the rig. This could be a real deterrent to future volunteers in my opinion.
After all the sogginess we’ve had this week, there was a beautiful double rainbow this evening. I’d better go out now to bring Emma in and put all the bird feeders away for the night.
Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later, Judy
ahhh. . .hitch itch. . .nothing like it!
ReplyDeleteYou are going to enjoy your journey with your brother. . .I just know it!
I'm even getting excited for you! There is nothing like the feeling experienced by us true gypsies when we are close to hitting the road. Beautiful rainbow!
ReplyDeleteI still would like to get back to at least see the Grand Tetons properly, but next year I hope to leave for NY in late April or early May - too soon to see the Tetons. I thought I'd go through southern Utah and head east to the Smokies before turning north to NY. I'd return to CA in July/August which is just too crowded in Yellowstone/Tetons. I've about given up on ever being able to see them.
Just make sure you don't leave behind Nurse Rachet in Yellowstone. He might like it too much... :cO
ReplyDeleteYellowstone & the Tetons--incredible places! Enjoy yourselves! I'll be antsy also when I'm 2 weeks & counting--have 62 work days left.
ReplyDeleteI'll be in Yellowstone on Wednesday, it looks like. And on to the Tetons after that. I'll just miss you. Maybe we'll be in the same place next summer though.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your trip with your brother. Since I left Cody early, I never did make it to the Grand Tetons, so I will have to go back that way again sometime.
ReplyDeleteI can hardly wait for your journey to begin! I'm expecting some beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteThat's some nasty looking water in the potty! Yikes!
That is too bad that they cannot fix the water problem for good, especially since it was not like that last year. You are going to have the best scenery on your trip to Arizona!! I am anxious to see your new photos! The rainbows were only partial over here last night...you got some great shots:)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have a great trip planned.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to following you along as you travel west!
ReplyDeleteI would like to invite you to Bluewater lake on your travels!
ReplyDeletePaul has a bad case of hitch itch. I am kind of excited to hit the road also. Not sure about Bella.
ReplyDeleteLovely double rainbow.
Wondering if Emma also gets anxious to move on down the road.
ReplyDeleteIf you' re coming up this way, I'd love to see you. I'll be at National Bison Range. Wish I was still at Red Rock - that's only about an hour away from West Yellowstone.
ReplyDeleteAnd no matter how much I love a place, I get the same itchy feet near the end of my assignment.
You've got some great sights and places to visit on your way south. Looking forward to seeing many of your great pics!
ReplyDeleteI really get the short timers attitude, as I have had it many times:) Sounds like you and the nurse are going to have a great trip!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your post from Yellowstone. Kurt is going to have the time of his life.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to follow your travels out west!!! Good luck finalizing all the little details before your get rolling!!
ReplyDeleteKeep us posted on your travels--we live so close to Yellowstone--maybe we can meet up somewhere??
ReplyDeleteSeems like I've been without internet for a month rather than just a week. I check back on you and find you are packing up to leave and have a great plan for travel that I hope includes TRNP. I'm surprised that Bridget and John are trading the 5th wheel for a motorhome. Will they tow their truck. Can't wait to see it and to see you and the nurse on the road. Bet you are counting the days. BTW, the brown water thing is sure to be a discouragement to any volunteer who actually knows about it.
ReplyDeleteYellowstone is like standing on the top of a smoldering caldera..Hey, that is exactly what you are doing when there. It's one of our most favorite spots too! ..Also loved Glacier Nat'l Park, on a totally different type of park...Yes, we have been given the "heads up" from FD5 and family that they are brave enough to stop by in the midst of one of our notorious Cave-A-Paloozas...They will fit right in with our wild kids and their spouses...Cannot wait! Will do a blog about it .....if we survive!! tehee.
ReplyDeleteYou've got some wonderful trips planned - can't wait to read all about them!

Sounds like fun!!! Love the baby bluebird. So sweet.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Yellowstone! Definitely on my top 3 list too! So far. Love the little bluebird, so awkward and unfinished :-).
ReplyDeleteJust thinking about short-timers syndrome makes me feel ANTSY!! Don't blame you for wanting to get the heck outa Dodge when you can be rolling into Yellowstone and Grand Teton Nat'l Parks. o boy, can't wait!
ReplyDeleteA fun scenery filled trip.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have a great trip ahead of you and I can't wait for your next summer assignment.
