Short timers syndrome

Yep, I’ve got it.  I’ll be pulling out of Tamarac in exactly two weeks, and I’m ready to hit the road.  I’m mentally ready now, but I’ve still got stuff to do.  Toward that end, I’ve started the pack up process and cleaning that needs to be done.  Since it’s been dreary and rainy for the last six days, it was a good day today to launder all the throw rugs, and towels that I use to cover Emma’s ‘perches’.  I use the washer and dryer that’s in the bunk house for that.  I also did all sheets, blankets, and my bed quilt.  The washer up there can handle those bulky items.

In between showers yesterday, this young Eastern bluebird perched on the laundry lines outside the rig.  By next spring, his head and back will be brilliant blue as well.

As usual, I’m getting excited about leaving a finished assignment.  My head has been conjuring up images that Nurse Ratchet and I will see on our journey south.

Kurt has never been to Yellowstone National Park before.  It’s one of my most favorite places in this country, so I’m anticipating a wonderful visit.

Here’s another park he’s wanting to see.  I’m more than happy to oblige.  Can you blame me for getting excited?

While I’ve been dreaming away about pending journeys, my neighbors, John and Bridget, have been as busy as beavers.

They’ve been spiffing up their fifth wheel for a trade-in they hope to make in Kentucky.  They’ll be gone about ten days or so to make a fast trip down to pick up their new to them motorhome.  John has his alarm set for six tomorrow morning to head out, and wanted to know if he should wake me up.  I declined.   Safe travels friends!  They should return before I hit the road, so I’ll get to see their new digs.  There’s a rumor that they may be attending a Cave-a-Palooza on their way back in Sandwich, IL.  Lucky ducks!

As my time here gets short, I also reflect back on what hasn’t been so wonderful.  Number one on my list this summer is not ticks, mosquitoes, or deer flies.  Here’s what it is:

Every ten days to two weeks, the water here turns disgustingly brown.  Too much iron in the water.  Efforts were made initially to try to solve the problem, but nothing seems to have worked.  I’ve been like a broken record complaining about it.  I hope they take enough interest in this problem to really solve it.  It plays havoc with my toilet bowl and washer/dryer and all of my pipes in the rig.  This could be a real deterrent to future volunteers in my opinion.

After all the sogginess we’ve had this week, there was a beautiful double rainbow this evening.  I’d better go out now to bring Emma in and put all the bird feeders away for the night.
