Yesterday was a great traveling day along US 75 through Kansas and into Nebraska to probably my most favorite private campground. I found this gem last October when I was headed down to Louisiana.
It’s only four miles off of I-29 in Nebraska City. It is owned and run by a couple that live on site. The grounds are spotless, and there’s ample room between each site.
This is the full hookup site that I had last fall. This time I chose to just have water and electric. I have a rather secluded site with no neighbors. Just what I like.
I thought I’d be pulling out this morning to head for South Dakota, but that didn’t happen. Overnight the winds kicked up to the over 30 mph range, so I decided to just stay put. There are a couple of interesting things to see in the area that I didn’t do the last time I stopped here, but I just didn’t have the oomph to unhook the toad and go see them. Emma and I just took it easy as the trees bent over in the wind.
I know that traveling through the prairie states at this time of the year can be a challenge wind wise. I’m pretty chicken when it comes to wind, so I’m really watching the weather forecasts. There may be a small window tomorrow before more high winds come in on Tuesday.
If it’s not too bad in the morning, I’m going to try to make it to Summit, SD. That’s about 350 miles or so, and quite a bit over my normal daily mile limit. Like the proverbial horse quickly returning to its stable, I’m anxious to get to Tamarac.
I’ll see how it goes. I do have a place in mind that I’ve been to a couple of times about 200 miles up the road in case things turn nasty. Wish me luck, please.
Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later, Judy
Having just traveled through some high winds, I can understand your caution. We're a lot lower profile than you are but still were buffeted a bit. It is very windy here in the Reno area still and I'm hoping it calms down for our drive home. Good luck to you.
ReplyDeleteStay safe on your travel tomorrow. I seem to recall that you were concerned about reaching your destination too early. So, if the weather looks iffy, stay another day and enjoy the nice RV park.
ReplyDeletehave had terrible winds in Missouri also. I actually opened my car door one day wind gust came and pinned me between
ReplyDeletedoor and seat had a heck of time opening door to get it. so be careful. will pass your message on the John & Bridget
Sounds like you have a good plan. The "long" day and the bail-out in case the wind comes up or you're just ready to be finished for the day. Safe travels. Mark
ReplyDeleteWishing you a safe drive . Not happy to drive in high winds either. But did OK Thurs.
ReplyDeleteThe wind blows way too much here in Nebraska. I get soooooo tired of it. Hope the rest of your trip goes well.
ReplyDeleteYup, no fun driving a motorhome when it's windy. Just like a big sailboat!
ReplyDeleteI don't think we've ever been to the state of Nebraska. But I get the impression it's something like Saskatchewan...?

Saw on the news that the storms are moving back in by Thursday so I'm hoping you get north to SD. Be safe out there.
ReplyDeleteDetroit Lakes weather doesn't look all that good for next week either, but mostly it is just days on end of cold rain... Not sure about hurrying to get that far North.....
ReplyDeleteLooks like a nice place you're at. Hope you can wait out the wind there.
ReplyDeleteI think you're smart to try to wait out the weather. No sense fighting wind all day long. Safe travels.
ReplyDeleteSo..... does that make you a prairie chicken? I'd say you're a pretty smart chick to wait out the winds!
ReplyDeleteWe are wishing you luck with prayers.
ReplyDeleteSafe travels!
ReplyDeleteUneventful and no wind--that's what we hope for your travels today!
ReplyDeleteSafe travels, Judy. Glad you're in a good spot if you have to wait out the wind.
ReplyDeleteIf there was just some way to hook a sail on motorhomes and increase mpg by taking advantage of all those winds... ;c)
ReplyDeletePrayer to the universe....Calm those winds!! Safe travels to you!!
ReplyDeleteHere's wishing you GOOD LUCK! :)
ReplyDeleteWe hate to travel in wind too. It makes for a very long day. Don't get caught up in PDD though! Take your time.
ReplyDeleteI'm keeping track of where you stay. We will be doing a similar route in a month or two.
ReplyDeleteWe don't even mention the word w..d out here anymore, there's not enough wood to knock on!
ReplyDeleteHey, you have a nice place to stay. Enjoy it while you can. No need to rush and take a chance on the weather.
ReplyDeleteGreat plan...the wind seems to be following you on this trip!!! Stay safe!!
ReplyDeleteJust got to this post right now so I hope the high winds have lessened. I've made a rule for myself to not drive in high winds if I can at all prevent it. That's probably the scariest RV driving other than roads that are too narrow when I'm up in altitude and driving on the drop-off side of the road!
ReplyDeleteThat RV park looks really nice - hope the site rental is decent. Have fun on your trip - 350 miles is one long jaunt for a single day.
Good luck with the wind! Too much is definitely a trip spoiler.
ReplyDeleteHave a windy week here too. Keeps the days from getting too hot ... so far.
ReplyDeleteLots of wind in west Texas, also. Safe travels.....
ReplyDeleteSeems like a lot of wind everywhere. Looks like a great park.
