I worked the last two days at the hunter check station. Yesterday was sunny and warm which resulted in mostly low counts for the hunters. The birds were just flying too high until late in the morning, and most hunters had already left. Those that stuck it out, found a late morning influx of Northern Pintails.
Today, it was in the mid sixties to start the day out. Rather warm for early morning. It was cloudy and as the predicted cold front began to move through, there was rain and high winds. At one point, the temperature plummeted about 20 degrees in 15 minutes! Once again, the hunters that stuck it out filled out their limit. I tried to get some more feather photos while the sun made a brief appearances, but they all turned out blurry. Sure wish I had a macro lens.
Late this afternoon, I went outside to add some water to the fresh water tank and turn off the water hook-up. It’s supposed to get down into the 20’s for the next two nights, so I’m not taking any chances with a frozen hose. I guess winter is back.

It was 63 when we walked into church. When we came out it was 45. What a rude awakening. So unusual for Texas for sure.

ReplyDeleteThis Texas weather sure has a lot of ups and downs this winter. Yesterday we went for a walk without a jacket and today it was too windy to go for a walk.
ReplyDelete20 above sounds delightful to me. Right now it is -28 F We have wind chill warnings until Tuesday. Got out my warm scarf for a trip outside to play ball with Chance. So far so good still have heat, power, water and sewer. So life is good..but chilly:)

ReplyDeleteYes, winter is back. Like you, we got that big drop in temps in a short time ... brrrr. Knowing that the front was coming, we went out for our beach walk early when the temperature was still warm. We saw the storm clouds getting pushed through by the storms and wondered if we were going to get a soaking, but didn't get a drop and the strong winds held off until we were back home.

ReplyDeleteI think we are lucky enough to be in one of the few warm places in the country! It is still in the low 30's every morning but that's the desert, it warms up nicely during the day.

This weather is so crazy this winter. Stay warm
ReplyDeleteThis is one heck of a cold front. It went down to 21 last night here in Oke and at noon, is only 25. Not sure it's going to get to the predicted 39 any time soon. Tonight is 26. And all on my days off. But Cindy and I are going to hunt the Harlaqin duck, snow buntings and snowy owl tomorrow. Thankfully I still have a pair of size 10's and they WILL go over my long johns and fleece pants But the birds should be loving it.
