I took the weekend off

I spent my three days off just taking care of business basically.  I didn’t do any touring or much of any picture taking.  I didn’t even feel like blogging.  There just wasn’t anything noteworthy.  I needed a break, and I took it.

I finally remembered to take a picture of the side of the rig.  I’m special ordering a couple of mug rugs (coasters) from a fellow blogger in the shape of my rig, and she needed a picture.  They’ll be stylized and quilted.  I’ll show them to you when they arrive.

Emma and I took a couple of walks, but she spent most of her time on patrol for squirrels.  I needed to get a new tie out for her since I was afraid the one she was on was going to snap, and she’d be off blasting around with the bears and wolves if that happened.  I thought the old one was 30’.  I was wrong.  That just gave her too much line to get into trouble by wrapping herself around everything conceivable including the dump hose on the other side of the rig.  I made a quick trip back to town to get a 20’ one instead.

Speaking of dump hoses, while I was down in Rochester two weeks ago, Steve, the other volunteer, sent me an email saying I had a couple of little cracks in the hose.  Ha! That was an understatement!  When I dumped the black tank this week, it looked more like the fountains in Grant Park in Chicago.  The exception being, of course, that the spray was brown and not pristine water.  Nyah-Nyah  What a revolting development that turned out to be!  I don’t know how all those fissures came about so suddenly.  It didn’t leak at all the last time I dumped the tanks.  So, replacing that hose was another one of those taking care of business things.

I also spent quite a few hours working on some more diamond willow walking sticks.  My friend, Gypsy, may be stopping by for a visit on her way from Sacramento, CA, to New York, and I promised her I’d give her a walking stick to help her enjoy her hiking.  I’ve now got three ready for sanding and a coat or two of polyurethane.  I want to be able to give her a choice to pick out the one that fits her best.  My favorite of these three is the one on the left, but it may be too short for her.  It always helps to have an impending deadline to get me motivated to finish a project.

I’m still struggling with getting my pictures to get where I want them in Picasa using Windows 8.  I’m really thinking I’m going to have to try to set up a time when Rick is available to probably undo what has turned out to be a real mess on my computer.  My son, Daniel, doesn’t know anything about Picasa, so I can’t call on him for help.  It’s just so frustrating to me.

Have any of you heard of We Fest?  Well it happened in Detroit Lakes this weekend, and I’ll be dealing with the results for the next two days.  Good thing I’ve had practice at being the Queen of Litter.  I’ll let you know how it goes tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later,  Judy

  1. Ugh ... a brown geyser is not a good geyser! I had to look up WE Fest ... I hope the aftermath is not as bad as I am imagining it was.

  2. Everyone needs an occasional break. Nice looking walking sticks. Are you sure a critter hasn't been chewing on your hose? As far as Windows-8; we have a number of friends that have gone to it, either by choice, or computer failure. They all hate it. Looks more like a tablet format than something for a laptop. Hope they have a newer version of an older system by the time I need a new one.:-)

  3. oh bummer yuck on the brown fountain sprays... What fun with the walking sticks! Gypsy will love it. guess she's on the road ... looking forward to an update ~ Emma looks to be in fine form ;)

I have a Mac so know nothing about Windows 8 other than a lot of people don't like it.

  4. Did anyone weed whip around your rig while you were gone? That been known to take out a few hoses of every kind.

We've chosen not to go to We Fest. My understanding is it is beer, country music, and beer.

  5. Hey I thought I was Queen of Liter. Ok I'll let you have it, and I'll take Princess. Although I may have to give up the title, the campers this weekend were exceptionally neat. Maybe they read my blog ha ha.
Your walking sticks are really pretty.

  6. The walking sticks are great.

One think I promised myself after I sold my trailer last month was no more dumping tanks for me. But then you are a full timer so I guess it's necessary.

  7. Emma looks like she has a squirrel in her sights!

  8. Brown spray is not a good thing. Glad it was only the hose and not something more serious. Emma sure does a good job of guarding your rig from the squirrels. Our girls completely tangle themselves up if the rope is even 10'. If there is beer involved with We Fest, you could be in deep litter.

  9. Those hose problems are no fun!

  10. We Fest is pretty much a drunken orgy mess. We stay far away from Detroit Lakes the first weekend in August..the 4th of July has heavy traffic too. Hope the travelling people didn't leave you too much liter..the bums. You probably had more traffic through the refuge that was escaping the traffic snarl in DL.
Hoses get old and degrade in the sunshine..yucky one to replace..but I am sure you did fine:)

  11. If there is a Fest around, I try to stay close to home. Those walking sticks are great, I have one that my daughter bought for me a few years ago.

  12. I've had bad luck with mowers of any sort near a sewer hose. In Pigeon Forge, a stone tossed by a mower managed to punch a hole through the side of one hose. Down in Florida, a weed whacked took out our hose twice in two weeks!

  13. JUdy, Have you and Emma decided on stopping at the Weeb Ranch this year on your way back south. Also I would like to pay you for a walking stick. With my neuropathy I need all the help I can get and would prefer a walking stick to a cane. Rigg's says to give Emma a sniff for him. Sam & Donna..

  14. I love your pictures today. It's fun to see a good picture of your rig all set up, a nice picture of the lovely Miss Emma at work and the great walking sticks Gypsy will choose from. Sorry about the black hose, yuck! At least it didn't break in two.

  15. Sorry you're still having trouble with Picasa. Something must have gotten set up differently somehow because my pictures worked exactly the same way on Windows 8 as they always did before. I'm sure Rick will be able to help you.

We had the same issue with our sewer hose once. We got to the Keys and noticed it was leaking all over the place, and hadn't had any problems before. We wondered if bugs chewed threw it when it was sitting on the ground, or if the sun had just damaged the hose. It was not an old sewer hose, but since then we've kept a spare. We keep saying we're going to cover it to protect it from the sun, but so far we haven't done it. Might be a good time to check ours too!

  16. Nice picture of your rig... I see your bicycle is all ready to go... very nice! Love seeing your walking sticks... I like the contrast of the main stick and the (?) knotholes.

  17. I enjoy quilting and am intrigued to see mug rugs in the shape of your rig. Can't wait to see them!

  18. Things do wear out I guess including sewer hoses, we had the same thing happen while down in Corpus Christi, TX--UGH!

  19. Glad to have you back, but sorry to see that you have that ongoing problem with Picasa and photos. That is the one reason I hate to change software. IMHO those young smarty pants who write software just love making our lives miserable.

  20. Emma is so pretty. Looks like she takes her job very seriously.

I love the walking sticks...the one on the left has the nice markings. My choice too!

I hate having those hose issues! YUCK!

  21. Hi Judy, if you are having problems with Picasa you can give me a shout, o.k. I should be home anytime after 12 noon (PDT) today.

  22. Sewer hoses do have a life expectancy, and the more they are exposed to the sun's ultra violet rays, the shorter it is. Not fun having to clean up after a dump leak, that's for sure!

That is a nice picture of your rig, but your wheels look a little dull... :cP

  23. Everyone needs a break now and then, although it sounds like you were still busy.

  24. Sometimes when I look at your motorhome I wonder if I should have kept ours (though we were in the midst of getting another). I finally had my truck detailed. When I can pick up the trailer, I'm sure it wil need a good wash, but at least I know it was detailed before going in for repairs and storage during the time I couldn't hook up. I always carry two sewer hoses with me…just in case. Still, in the beginning I had my "incidents" or should I say "catastrophes" while dumping.

  25. I wonder if you have had some critter visits. Like critters with very sharp teeth. . Love the walking sticks.
