I haven’t been posting since I left Okefenokee on Monday, because there just wasn’t much to say. It was just a matter of driving and driving, and setting up for the night at a couple of not very memorable campgrounds. I’m not a Walmart boondocker. My choice is to find a campground (preferably Passport America) in the afternoon, minimally set up, and take Emma for a walk on something other than asphalt. I stretched it for me at 260 miles on Monday, but at least I passed into the central time zone, so I gained an hour. That amount of miles fairly wore me out, and I wanted to be off the road before my attention span and reaction speed was slowed down by drowsiness.
I spent Monday night in the panhandle of Florida, and last night outside of Biloxi, MS. Memories flowed through my mind as I passed up the exit for Mississippi Sandhill Crane NWR. This morning, I awoke with renewed vigor to be traveling through the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area in Louisiana. I just wish those blotches in the sky were birds and not bug splatters on my windshield.
I’ve driven this 18 mile bridge along I-10 several times before, but the cypress have never been green on my previous trips. Sorry to say, there are no areas to pull off for pictures along the bridge, so I just pointed my camera without looking in the view finder and clicked.
I’ve never tried to take pictures while driving before, so it’s a good thing I just kept clicking away without looking. I’m not sure I’ll ever try that again…too distracting. This is a different kind of swamp than Okefenokee, and it has intrigued me since the first time I drove across it. I just may have to take a swamp tour while I’m in the area.
After only 205 miles today, I pulled into Billy Thibodeaux’s Premiere RV in Scott, LA. Long time readers might remember that this is my favorite place to get maintenance, repairs, and upgrades on my rig.
After hugs and handshakes, it wasn’t long before I was ensconced in my full hook-up site in the gated yard. My guess is that I’ll be here a week or ten days for everything on my list to be accomplished. It will give me plenty of time to revisit some favorite places, explore some new things, and surely enjoy a shrimp po-boy or two! I’ll keep you posted on how things progress.
Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later, Judy
Thanks for posting and letting us know you and Emma are safe and making progress...
ReplyDeleteI love some shrimp po-boys.....enjoy!
Hi Judy! I am trying to catch up on some blog reading. I love your swamp stories and photos of those birds and the turtles. Salad, huh? Looked almost appetizing to me too.
ReplyDeleteI have been across that stretch of I-10 in LA and also found it fascinating.
I highly recommend the swamp tour, we really enjoyed the one we took at the LA State Winnie Rally.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to hear you made it safe and sound. Enjoy the swamp and the po-boys, you've earned them!
ReplyDeleteYOU ARE MY HERO!!!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your little respite. Put your feet up and let someone else do the work now.
ReplyDeletePretty good pictures for drive-by shooting. The one with the cypress trees is especially nice. Hope you get some rest and get to see some good stuff while your rig is getting all fixed up.
ReplyDeleteWe hear you about the 260 mile drive. When we're traveling in the motorhome, 120 miles a day is about right for us!
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, we're about to do 260 miles per day for the next three days! Thankfully, it's not that bad in the little blue car!
Hope you get everything fixed on your rig.

Glad to hear you arrived safe and sound. I know you've been happy with the service you received here ... just sent Mui an email with the link ... it might be where we get the rig serviced next year on our way to Texas.
ReplyDeleteAhhh, enjoy a shrimp po-boy for us! (There is a very fine rookery at Lake Martin, if you're close enough. Ask the guys at Billy's where it is.) Good luck w/ your rig!
ReplyDeleteIt will feel good to get all those repairs and needed chores done with. And maybe you can enjoy the area while there.
ReplyDeleteA full hook up is a nice touch.
Lots of miles under your belt is right.
ReplyDeleteNow to get repairs done.
Enjoy the stay and the site seeing.
Enjoy your time there. Get some good pictures....and some rest. Remember, you had surgery just a few months ago...
ReplyDeleteWonderful story. I'm guessing Emma is a good traveller. She's had lots of opportunity to get used to it.
ReplyDeleteEmma, I like.. I like..your post much. Such nice pics posted on blog. Thanks to share information with us especially I.. Have you ever trip to Indonesia, such a nice & beautiful place it is. Think about it.
ReplyDeleteGreat header photo.
ReplyDeleteWe have driven that bridge many, many times. You did a great job with your "point and shoot" technique. That area is so lovely.
Hope things get taken care of quickly for you! Love the header photo!
ReplyDeleteHave you been to Suire's Grocery in Kaplan? Best Shrimp Po Boys we've ever tasted. Enjoy your time in the area. We took a swamp tour and enjoyed it very much!
ReplyDeleteLove your side mirror shot. I don't know how you did that, I can barely take something decent with the camera on the steering wheel. Sorry I missed you in the panhandle. I think I missed where you stayed if you mentioned it. Good luck with all the RV work.
ReplyDeleteNice driving and shooting! We very often have pictures taken through the windshield, mostly by Marti in the passenger seat. We have to make those miles, that PDD keeps us moving.
ReplyDeleteHope all your maintenance goes quickly and cheaply. Your MH will love you for it. ;c)
Safe travels! Hope they get your rig all spiffy for you. We too try to find a park to stay at. We reserve Walmart for when there isn't a good option. We try to keep it under 300 miles and prefer closer to 200 miles in a day. I think sometimes when people push themselves and get tired its when mistakes are made and bad things happen.
ReplyDeletesafe travels to you and Emma. . .
ReplyDeleteyay! please go on a swamp tour and take lots of pictures! I want to see, I've always wanted to go down to Louisiana!
ReplyDeleteAs a person who loves swamps best of all and has spent a lot of time there, I can truly say, you MUST visit Louisiana, especially the Atachfalaya Swamp. I have pictures of some of my trips, including a paid one there in my blog. We spend time at Lake Fosse Point State Park, which is across the street from the levee, but within the natural swamp.
DeleteWith the digital age & auto focusing it has made taking photos while moving very easy. No need to look through viewfinders & no need to concentrate on what your shooting. Just point the camera in the general direction you see or saw something & shoot away. Fun part is later cropping what you saw out of all the blather surrounding it. The more shooting you do that way the more comfortable you will be with it. Far safer than dashboard touch screens or phone stuff that is going on nowadays. Good for you in giving it a try:))
ReplyDeleteLooks like you didn't stop at the rest stop at the totally marvelous rest stop at Butte LaRose, right in the Atachfalaya Swamp. There is free coffee - as there as at all Louisiana rest centers but also a mini museum on the Cajun culture and lots of CC Lockwod's pictures. Even a mini-movie. AND I think you night even have been able to stay there - there is a truck rest area.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos for point and shoot from a moving vehicle. Actually, Marilyn......there is a separate RV area in a different lot from the trucks. That's one of the greatest things about the Butte LaRose Rest Center.
