I haven’t been posting since I left Okefenokee on Monday, because there just wasn’t much to say. It was just a matter of driving and driving, and setting up for the night at a couple of not very memorable campgrounds. I’m not a Walmart boondocker. My choice is to find a campground (preferably Passport America) in the afternoon, minimally set up, and take Emma for a walk on something other than asphalt. I stretched it for me at 260 miles on Monday, but at least I passed into the central time zone, so I gained an hour. That amount of miles fairly wore me out, and I wanted to be off the road before my attention span and reaction speed was slowed down by drowsiness.
I’ve driven this 18 mile bridge along I-10 several times before, but the cypress have never been green on my previous trips. Sorry to say, there are no areas to pull off for pictures along the bridge, so I just pointed my camera without looking in the view finder and clicked.
I’ve never tried to take pictures while driving before, so it’s a good thing I just kept clicking away without looking. I’m not sure I’ll ever try that again…too distracting. This is a different kind of swamp than Okefenokee, and it has intrigued me since the first time I drove across it. I just may have to take a swamp tour while I’m in the area.
After only 205 miles today, I pulled into Billy Thibodeaux’s Premiere RV in Scott, LA. Long time readers might remember that this is my favorite place to get maintenance, repairs, and upgrades on my rig.
After hugs and handshakes, it wasn’t long before I was ensconced in my full hook-up site in the gated yard. My guess is that I’ll be here a week or ten days for everything on my list to be accomplished. It will give me plenty of time to revisit some favorite places, explore some new things, and surely enjoy a shrimp po-boy or two! I’ll keep you posted on how things progress.

Hi Judy! I am trying to catch up on some blog reading. I love your swamp stories and photos of those birds and the turtles. Salad, huh? Looked almost appetizing to me too.

I highly recommend the swamp tour, we really enjoyed the one we took at the LA State Winnie Rally.

ReplyDeleteWe hear you about the 260 mile drive. When we're traveling in the motorhome, 120 miles a day is about right for us!

ReplyDeleteLove your side mirror shot. I don't know how you did that, I can barely take something decent with the camera on the steering wheel. Sorry I missed you in the panhandle. I think I missed where you stayed if you mentioned it. Good luck with all the RV work.
ReplyDeleteNice driving and shooting! We very often have pictures taken through the windshield, mostly by Marti in the passenger seat. We have to make those miles, that PDD keeps us moving.

Safe travels! Hope they get your rig all spiffy for you. We too try to find a park to stay at. We reserve Walmart for when there isn't a good option. We try to keep it under 300 miles and prefer closer to 200 miles in a day. I think sometimes when people push themselves and get tired its when mistakes are made and bad things happen.

ReplyDeleteAs a person who loves swamps best of all and has spent a lot of time there, I can truly say, you MUST visit Louisiana, especially the Atachfalaya Swamp. I have pictures of some of my trips, including a paid one there in my blog. We spend time at Lake Fosse Point State Park, which is across the street from the levee, but within the natural swamp.
DeleteWith the digital age & auto focusing it has made taking photos while moving very easy. No need to look through viewfinders & no need to concentrate on what your shooting. Just point the camera in the general direction you see or saw something & shoot away. Fun part is later cropping what you saw out of all the blather surrounding it. The more shooting you do that way the more comfortable you will be with it. Far safer than dashboard touch screens or phone stuff that is going on nowadays. Good for you in giving it a try:))
ReplyDeleteLooks like you didn't stop at the rest stop at the totally marvelous rest stop at Butte LaRose, right in the Atachfalaya Swamp. There is free coffee - as there as at all Louisiana rest centers but also a mini museum on the Cajun culture and lots of CC Lockwod's pictures. Even a mini-movie. AND I think you night even have been able to stay there - there is a truck rest area.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos for point and shoot from a moving vehicle. Actually, Marilyn......there is a separate RV area in a different lot from the trucks. That's one of the greatest things about the Butte LaRose Rest Center.
