A day to dampen spirits

I heard the pitter patter of rain drops on the roof this morning as I woke up.  In a rig, it always reminds me of what popcorn sounds like popping in a heated pot.  I’m not one of those people that likes their popcorn done in the microwave.  I prefer to put some oil in an old pot, heat it up, melt some real butter,  and cover the results in a sprinkling of salt.  In my opinion, you just can’t beat the mouth watering taste of hot buttered popcorn.  It’s one of the finer things in life!

Anyway, there were showers and overcast skies most of the day.  When it finally quit, Emma and I headed out for an extended walk.

Apparently the rain brought out the shrooms, and lowered the temperatures a bit.

Not many people were out and about, so we took our time walking around the campground.

Hmmm, do you think we could have moved this picnic table to our site?  I’m thinking not.  One can only guess how many years this table has withstood the weather’s ravages.

We walked around the shrinking pond to find some last blooms of wild flowers, and noticed the forming acorns on the oak trees.  I sure hope to be out of here before those falling acorns begin sounding their explosive booms as they hit my roof.

I believe I’ve come to the final decision of not to return to Pioneer Family Campground next year.  Putting aside the issues I’ve had with the electricity, I still can’t talk myself into sitting here for so long with nothing to do and no new sights to see.

Next year, I plan to visit Robyn, Dennis, and the Grandgirls for a while, but not for the entire summer season.  There are other places calling my name.  Seems like a good night for some hot buttered popcorn to me…

Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later,  Judy

  1. Mmmmm fresh popped pop corn. When we moved from the stick & brick I gave up my Whirly Pop popper. I'm still having seconds thoughts abut that decision.

Glad you came to a conclusion about next year. I'm sure you will enjoy your visit with Robyn, Dennis and the "Girls".

  2. Now I want popcorn!! I need to find my popcorn popper, the stove-top kind with the stirrer in the middle. It makes THE BEST popcorn! And of course, real butter, are ya crazy???

  3. What great pictures. So much for the eye to see and so much we miss by not looking closely.

  4. Interestingly, I bought popcorn the other day for the first time in ages. Numms! I think you have made the right decision for you regarding next Summer. For whatever that's worth to ya!

  5. We have sat almost the entire summer in our son's driveway and I will never, ever do that again unless there is absolutely no other choice. I have hitch itch so bad I can't believe it. I think a month in one place is just about the extent of my time. So I know how you are feeling about other places calling your name. Maybe you could spend a month next summer. And enjoy your popcorn. I made spaghetti for dinner so I didn't get hungry for popcorn when I read your post. But give me ten minutes.

  6. I had a feeling you might come to that conclusion. Once wanderlust gets into your blood, it's hard to find a cure, isn't it? And who wants to??!

  7. Good choice, Judy, we gotta keep moving while we still can. The day may come soon enough when we will have to park in a loved ones' driveway for good!

  8. Boy, can we understand your decision. I enjoyed going to CR and teaching this summer but the call of the road is greater. I agree with Sandie, a month in one place is usually plenty for me. There may come a day when we want longer stays but not yet. Loved the photo of the mushroom.

  9. Good pics and a good eye for them.
Popcorn the old fashioned way is a lot better than the micro popcorn...especially after the butter and seasoning is added to it.

  13. Good decision..and I totally get it. We stayed 2 months at Hickiwan and by the 6th week, I kept looking longingly through the Atlas...Go while you can...There is soooo much of this great country (and Canada) to see...

  14. Pretty cool map you got there. I am noticing that although you get pretty close to the second biggest country in the world you haven't jumped across the Medicine Line yet. Now that you are freeing up a little summer traveling time put us on your route map. We always have room for you here at Dogpound North and Emma could run till her hearts content. There is a no leash law here....lol.

  15. Couldn't agree with you more about other places calling. Sitting in one spot for any length of time has never appealed to me. Fine for other folks, but not this guy. Like you, we are trying to think of some different destinations for this winter as well.

  16. The wife and I first met at the popcorn machine while working at the same theater. Popcorn will always have a special place in my heart. Great pic's, as usual........jc

  17. The very WORST popcorn popper ever invented was the air popper. Sure, there was no fat but there was no taste either. If you're gonna eat popcorn it must have butter - just my opinion of course!! Loved the photo of the picnic table. It has certainly seen better days but then so have I and I have not retained as much color as that table.

  18. Yes, sometimes you can stay in one place too long and then hitch itch sets in. A week is usually long enough for us - except we like to sit still during the winter months. Loved the photos today - what an eye you have for interesting shots.

  19. Sounds like you have a good plan for next year! I agree about spending to much time in one spot ~ we kinda did that his year too. As for Stove top popcorn it is the best and we do it in a pot all the time. Best popcorn ever!!! We went back to that when I heard that the fumes from the microwave bag could cause cancer... I do everything I can to avoid that again!!!
    Have fun & Travel safe

  20. Scary looking shroom. We also make popcorn the old fashioned way in a pan, but no butter.

  21. The call of the road is very hard to ignore. Just make sure when you get underway you have lots of that popcorn ready to snack on, that's a great way to travel!

  22. Well, I assume everyone had popcorn last night! Sounds good in the middle of the afternoon too!!!

I'm not surprised about your decision either... I know it was great being by your daughter and family, but the park seems to have some issues for sure!

Now about your wonderful photography...again!!! What do you suppose took those two bites out of that shroom?

  24. Orville Redenbacher's on the stove with real butter for us too, Judy, on a rainy day. We eat it for dinner a lot of time. The micro stuff just doesn't taste the same. Looking forward to your travels again. Maybe we will catch up with you in Texas. Ann
