Choosing an attitude

Like many others that are advancing in age, the absolutely first thing I do when I get out of bed in the morning is head for the bathroom!  It has grown to be a habit for me to lift the window blind in there before I sit down.  :)  This morning as I took a quick glance outside, I noticed how foggy it was.  I chose to take that as a good sign; got dressed in record time, and dashed outside with my camera around my neck and Emma in tow on her leash.

IMG_9006The wet pine savannah had a low layer of fog encasing the trees as we made our way down the road.

IMG_9007But this is what I was looking for.  The play of the rising sun through the fog enshrouded savannah.  So cool to see!  I truly enjoyed the peace of the sunrise before any of the worker bees arrived or other volunteers began rousing themselves.  I think it’s all a matter of attitude.  I chose to take this as an opportunity rather than gripe about the fog.

Most of my day was filled with mundane tasks like laundry, mailing off the tee-shirts, getting a hair cut, and grocery shopping.  I chose to get these tasks done quickly so I could look forward to taking Emma out on another hike around the Dees Nature Trail.

As we hiked, I found a couple of more treasures to add to the natural centerpiece of the picnic table at our site.  I love pine cones, and found a real 8” tall beauty.  We also came upon a pile of feathers in the middle of the path.  Some bird had met it’s demise overnight.  I’m not sure just yet what kind of bird this was, but I’ll investigate that.  Emma has also added to this treasure trove.  She found the turtle carapace at our site the first day we were here.  :)

As we sat outside in the late afternoon, I heard the familiar call of a Carolina chickadee on the other side of the motorhome.  Sure enough, that little dude has discovered my feeders!  If you look closely at the pic on the right, you can see that he is holding a seed from the feeder in his beak.

So, am I a Pollyanna in my outlook on life?  Perhaps, but I think it’s a matter of choosing your attitude at the beginning of each and every day.  I consciously choose to put a positive slant on even a mundane day.  It sure is a lot easier on my blood pressure, and allows me to enjoy all the little things in life so much more.

_MG_9034And, how about this for an ending for the day?  Is that the Sea of Tranquility up there?  It is for me.  :)

Thanks for stopping by…. talk to you later,  Judy

  1. Well, you have certainly mastered the great attitude part of living!

I have so enjoyed reading your blog - as has my husband. You are living your values! Isn't that the very meaning of life?

  2. As usual I enjoyed your pictures. The one with the sunrise through the trees was particularly nice. I also like your attitude to your day. I could have used that when I got up this morning. Was in a bit of a funk but much better now. Have to think about what you wrote tomorrow morning.

  4. You go girl. I love your photos, and attitude. You brought back memories with those super sized pine cones. I carried one or two back from Florida to Wisconsin, when I was a kid, and kept it for a really long time.

  13. It is my belief that it is one's attitude that makes one's life either a content existence or one of suffering. I'm not talking material things but rather one's spirit, one's soul. You're doing an exceptional job with seeing the beauty in each day. Great photos, great 'tude! :)

  14. Although I have spotted random beauty all of my life, it has really only been in the last six months or so that I have purposely looked for it. And by doing so I have learned to find and enjoy more in my here and now.

I like the first of the regular size pictures the best. It is not so blatantly glorious as the sun thru the trees. It is beauty that some might not notice.

    It is perfect light.

    What a wonderful morning view.

  15. PS; Craig says he has always associated sun beams coming thru the trees (or down thru the clouds) like that with images of heaven.

  20. What an uplifting post today, Judy. It's so easy to get down about little things--thank you for the reminder about the benefits of having a positive attitude.

  21. The fog pictures shot me through my heart. Pine forests feel like home.

  22. Fog & a light source go hand in hand with photography whether it be the sun, a street lamp or car headlights. Always makes for exceptional photos with a welcome artsy difference. To be in the right place at the right time with the right equipment and an understanding of all 3 can lead to some great photos. You are one of the people who understand that concept. Good stuff:)) Years ago when I attended a lot of AA meetings we often referred to AA as 'Attitude Adjustment.' And, that is just exactly what it was. Attitude is a daily thing & is in constant need of tweaking depending on what challenges we are facing. Just my opinion of course........

  23. Your photos and words touched our hearts. Isn't it wonderful to be at the top of the world through all life's sweet surprises. There is no better way to live and the amazing thing is...it's always been a choice.

Too many people do not get it...they blame everything and everyone and then say they would be this or that if only this or that would happen. Nonsense...just choose your attitude and live it to the fullest every moment...through the good times and the not so good.

A great post to remind us all to take charge of our own lives by choosing to today, tonight and from this day forward to be all we can be.

  24. What can I say the other 24 haven't already said? Your attitude about attitude should be preached from evey pulpit, dais, platform, stage and hay wagon in the country. Besides, you got some great pictures!

  26. Awesome pics! You captured a wonderful early morning with fog in the Savanah!

No, you're not Pollyanna, just a smart lady that looks at life with a glass half full! We have to look for the positives in a day and not dwell on the negative!

  28. I love fog! One of my best days was walking the beach in the fog near Forks, WA ~ prior to Twilight..

love the pictures; absolutely award winning as always!

we used to have chickadees at home and I loved their sassy chickadeedeedee; but the bird flu has taken most all of them away in the past few years... :(

  29. I always taught my kids that the sun rays are from heaven and someone is sending us a message: Grandma? Rascal? Lucy? The pix are beyond words. Thanks a million and I will carry their memory all day.

  30. Wonderful post, Judy...You are so right. We have the power to find our own inner peace. And as we get older, I think those things become much more simple, just as the sunrise on a foggy morning. You are lucky to capture those things with your camera..Usually I see those fabulous natural wonders when I DON'T have one..so I take a "memory photo" with my brain....Not as good, but just as satisfying..

  31. What beautiful pictures Judy! I'm glad you got up early to take them!

I don't think you are at all "pollyanna." We've had sort of a rough go of things the last few weeks. We could either curl up and feel sorry for ourselves or look at all we still do have to be thankful for and go forward with love and appreciation. I much prefer your approach!

  32. Awesome photos today, the fog adds such an etheral quality to the photos. You are so right about choosing an attitude. Life is so much more fun when we choose a positive one. Also it is nice to know I am not the only one who puts the blind up while taking care of morning business. :)
