A stowaway and up in the air!

Yesterday when I was setting up in the parking lot, I opened one of the cabinets of my entertainment center to turn the antenna booster on.  There, I found evidence that a small mammal had stowed away in the rig and hitched a ride with me from Anahuac NWR.  And here I thought I had made it unscathed by rodents for this year’s volunteer tour.  Not so, grasshopper!  So, I got out one of those plastic traps; loaded it up with peanut butter and within two hours that little bugger was on his way to the happy hunting grounds!  I reset the trap and put a second one under the sink where I had found further evidence.  So far, there haven’t been any other snaps in the night.

I was ready early this morning for the guys to take the rig into the shop to begin the long list of repairs and recalls.  I needn’t have hurried so because they didn’t come for the rig until after lunch.

_MG_8600In very short order, my home was up in the air and the water pump and clutch recall work began.  In the meantime another tech started doing some of the other things on the list.  Emma and I took off in the car to take a drive around this area of Louisiana.  It wasn’t long before another front moved through and the rain began.  We’ll try that trip again, maybe tomorrow, when I hope things will be better for pictures.

Billy Thibodeaux is the man that owns this repair facility, and it’s a family run operation.  His son tackled the repair on my Splendide washer'/dryer this afternoon.  In order to get to the machine, he had to take off the cabinet doors and remove the toilet.  When he got it out, he discovered that the cement block had come loose, crashed, and messed up the electronic board and several bolts and other stuff.  He will now do battle with the extended warranty people about this as a repair would probably cost more time and money than a replacement would.

Not all of the work was finished on the engine, so I’m spending tonight under the huge shed cover.  At least they brought the rig down to ground level!  :)  Not sure how we would have gotten into it otherwise.  I have water and electric (and a reinstalled toilet) so I’m good for the night.  I wonder what tomorrow will bring??

Thanks for stopping by…. talk to you later,  Judy

  1. We've never spent the night inside a repair place (knock on wood). Outside, yes, inside, no. We arrived in Grass Valley, CA and are waiting for our appointment at 8:30 tomorrow morning. Hope they get to us sooner than after lunch.

  2. " I wonder what tomorrow will bring??"

I hope it brings you a new Splendide, and then they would probably have to remove the toilet again. But it would be worth it.

I have never had a Splendide, what is the cement block for?
Oops, I just found out it is a counter weight for balancing. It must weigh a lot?

  5. Keep your camera handy because there might some wildlife scurrying around in that shop at night. Never know what kinds of pets those mechanics are keeping in their tool boxes these days.........

  6. Like Penny, I'm wondering what the cement block is for?

  7. Oh, the nights we've spent in repair shop bays. Not the most exciting of times but at least we could stay in our rig instead of a motel. Hope they get all kinds of stuff done for you tomorrow.

  8. I'm WAY impressed you could take care of that mouse by yourself. You are a tough cookie! I'm sitting here thinking about what I'd do if I had to clean that mess by myself. I think I'd pay someone to do it for me. Not even kidding!

  9. Poor little mouse.

Just kidding. I have dispatched a few in my time as well.

    They love my garage.

  12. Hope all the repairs get finished soon and you can be on your way. Sounds like you are making the most of the situation though as usual. It sure helps to have a good attitude during repair times. It's just part of the adventure. Enjoy Louisiana!

  14. I wonder what tomorrow will bring. That is probably a good mantra for all of us all of the time, as we never do know. As the song says, "Some days are diamonds, some days are stones." When tomorrow does come, we need to make the most of whatever it is.

  15. For some reason I started singing "*Judy* in the Sky with Diamonds" as I was reading your blog! :-) So glad that they are getting things squared away for you, and hope that you have no more "little visitors".

    Enjoy Louisiana!

  16. Wow... that is REALLY like having your plans "up in the air" haha. Glad it all is being taken care of!

We moved our washer/dryer unit from the bathroom into the bedroom to redo the flooring... and whew that thing is HEAVY! It took both Steve and I together to hoist it up and onto the bed while we did the floor. Then be careful to not scrape the floor putting the machine back into place again.

That cement weight is in there for counterbalance action when the spin cycle kicks in, kinda like a gyroscopic effect.

  17. Happy hunting grounds? Gee, I had you pegged as a catch and release kind of person. After an incident with these little invaders, I keep the eternity bags in various locations around the coach all the time, and once in awhile I check to see if there has been activity.

Looking at my coach u in the air like that would make me very nervous.
