So, here it is, getting close to three months since I bought my new to me rig, and still no license plates. Since I have cell phone service now that I left Red Rock, I did have a message from the Minnehaha Treasurer’s office that there was a problem with sending my plates. Okay, so this morning I gave them a call. They told me that I needed to have a notarized affidavit of non-residency sent to them, and also a weight ticket. After asking what a weight ticket was, I figured out I could do that. Seems to me Universal RV in Minnesota could have provided that! After telling the woman that I am a South Dakota resident, and have a SD driver’s license, she told me I still had to have the affidavit, and that I should just go to their website, print one off, and take care of it. She also told me I was lucky she still had my paperwork on her desk. Normally, she would have already returned it to I don’t know where. Ugh!
I went to the website and viewed the form. What jumped out at me was that it said if you had a SD driver’s license, you didn’t have to do this form! It also made you swear before a notary that you didn’t have a SD driver’s license or a license anywhere in the US. OMG! So, I called the lady back in Minnehaha County, and told her what I found out about the form. She said, “oh, I thought you didn’t have a SD driver’s license.” Duh!! Didn’t you listen to what I said??? I must say that she was not the most friendly person to work with. She also made some disparaging remarks about folks that register their rigs in SD, but don’t actually live there. Get over it lady! Anyway, I sent her the weight ticket today via snail mail, so I’m hopeful that I’ll finally have plates by the time I make it to Malheur NWR. We’ll see. :(
On a more positive note, when I visit a National Park or Refuge, I usually buy a tee shirt to commemorate my visit. Well, I think the folks at Craters of the Moon National Monument need a new tee shirt designer. :) So, instead I bought this book…
Luckily, I’ve been to quite a few of the places listed, so I won’t have 1000 of them to try to squeeze in! :) It’s fun choosing a state, and seeing what this author thinks is worthwhile to see. She also suggests the best time to be at each place. Malheur NWR is listed with September and October being among the best months to visit. Alrighty then, I guess I’ll be checking that one off! I got the maps and campground guides out again this evening, and I think when I leave here I’ll spend a week in the Boise, ID, area to see some things and take care of getting a tall enough ladder at Camping World.
Thanks for stopping by….talk to you later, Judy

Judy, check the picture size. The Blog Title picture and title are not fitting into the template margins...or my computer has gone bonkers....
ReplyDeleteI just don't get it...why do some people (ie: unkind lady with unsightly remarks) CHOOSE to be Gripey McGripertons...
ReplyDeleteI'll definately be adding this book to my "buy" list. if I can find it.
I DO love following you! K
Do you use a mail forwarding service in SD? If so, they could take care of all that stuff for you. I just sent the papers they needed (bill of sale, check, etc), and Terri (MyDakotaAddress) ran it all over to the courthouse and got my plates. I think the titles came in the mail.
ReplyDeleteI got my driver's license in Minehaha(that's Sioux Falls, isn't it?) and I guess I was lucky to beat the newer tougher regs they seem to want to put on folks who don't actually live in SD. I even registered to vote by mail.
What did you think of Craters of the Moon? I was planning to go there last year when a friend said don't go there, go to the Sawtooth Range and drive through Stanley. As events had it, I tore off part of the side of my rig so had to keep going the quickest way to the factory in Kansas. I still think I'd like to see Craters, but won't buy a T-shirt if you say so.
It must be something about that job....we've encountered some grumps in that position ourselves. Life is too short to be that way. Hope you are able to get things straightened out and get your tags.
ReplyDeleteThat books sounds interesting...might just have to put it on a wish list.

I think, in general, people that work in a DMV office must pass a grump test before being hired.
ReplyDeleteThat book looks pretty good! Hope you are finally able to get your tags ok.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love civil servants?! As if we really need to know how they feel! Good luck with the battle!!
ReplyDeleteI loved Craters of the Moon way back when we were there in the 80's!
I agree, I think there are a lot of national parks that need to redesign the logos on their T-shirts so people will want to be seen in them!

Wow has it been that long since you got the new rig? Seems like just the other day. But, hey, now that we're full-timing I can hardly keep track of what day it is!
ReplyDeleteI want that book too. I think I'll look on Amazon after I do my painting today and order it as a reward for a good work day!
ReplyDeleteHow many Tee shirts do you have?
Your experience with the license plates sounds frustrating. Those of us that are not full-timers don't have quite that same level of frustration, but things can go wrong for us, too. I sympathize with you and hope that your problem gets resolved soon!
ReplyDeleteGetting TX tags for our new rig was a piece of cake compared to getting our TX drivers licenses. Good luck with that! I wish we had known you needed a ladder. We have two and are looking for a good home for one of them. Shoot!!!! We have the book, too, and love it. Just need to remember to look at it from time to time. Safe travels!
ReplyDeleteThere's just no accounting for some people's rudeness....and you can't fix "stupid". Hope you get your plates...finally!!!
ReplyDeleteHere in MO we have the Dept of Revenue Fee Offices where you have to go to get your plates and renew your driver's/CDL.Boy what an appropriate name, also they must screen their help so they can pick the most inept and abrasive personalities to meet the public. I sometimes think that they all have horseradish enema's before they start their shifts. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna...
ReplyDeleteAmazon order placed!
ReplyDeleteMy poor hubby is the Union President of all the state workers in our part of the state, including the DMV.... he is always having to put out their fires, soothe over their inter-personnel battles and plain old treat them namby pamby babies like their poop don't stink. Shhhhh don't tell them I told ya that!
