Early warning sign?

I had quite the ‘to do’ list written out for today.  As is normal, it took me a lot longer to get everything done than what I thought it would.  Getting the new lenses for my reading glasses went off without a hitch.  I found everything on my list at the grocery store, and I was making good time until the check out.  My debit card was denied.  What?  Here we go again.  Baring teeth smile  Yes, it was the same account where I replaced the card a few months back because of fraudulent escort charges in England.  Wells Fargo called me a couple of weeks ago suspecting fraud again when I purchased gas in Manns Harbor.  I thought that was all cleared up.

The card then came up as invalid when I tried to buy a step stool at Ace Hardware.  Since there is a Wells Fargo branch in Manteo, I stopped in to see what was going on.  It seems the card was closed out rather than reinstated after the last episode with the gas.  Grr!  Now, another new card is being sent to me.  In the meantime, I have a temporary card that is good for 45 days.  What a pain in the neck.  I’m glad they’re vigilant, but this was a mess up on their part.

That little delay almost made me late for my appointment at the hair dresser’s, and then I had to backtrack five miles to the refuge office to pick up my latest Netflix.  There were a couple of other errands along the way, and it was close to 4:00 by the time I finally made it back to the rig.  All in all, not a very exciting day.

I did find some evidence, when I was getting Emma’s dinner ready, of the possible existence of a rodent under the kitchen sink.  Out came the peanut butter, and the trap is set.  Seems a little early to have to deal with mice considering the continuing hot temperatures.  I’m prepared, though, and will now go out and set a couple of traps in the water/dump bay.

  2. The same thing happened to me and my card with Bank of America. They gave me a courtesy call and said I have a few more days until the card wouldn't work. I told them I only get my mail about once a month, but I got no sympathy. To say I had a few words with them is putting it mildly. Like you, it wasn't even my fault. Just crazy!!!

  3. I've been away for about a week, my oh my, you have had some exciting adventures. Enjoyed your wolves visit, and the snakes would have scared me to death. The worst encounter I think was the human one with your bank card. Good luck getting that all straightened out.

  4. Re: mice - I read on a blog of someone putting the mousetraps outside of the RV, at the base of the tires. Seems they may use the tires to get up into the RV, and also where the hoses go inside the RV. It may be a problem with Emma around outside if she likes peanut butter. Maybe you could put a few out of her reach??? if that's possible.

  6. We had a visitor at the coach, too ... like you, surprised because it is still so warm out. Luckily, Mui's got traps set and the critter was caught before wandering around the coach.

  7. We had the same type of fiasco with Bank of America last spring. Then we didn't get the card that they mailed us in time, so they sent another one by overnight mail. Then we didn't get that one. What a mess!

  8. We used a mouse trap next to a tire in Oregon. It worked the first night - Tom reset the trap. And the next morning, trap and all was missing never to be seen again. We think that someone decided that the trap contained a tasty morsel and took it home to their young ones. Hope whatever it was didn't eat the trap, too.

  10. I hate Wells Fargo, and I don't have much faith in other banks when it comes to debit/ATM cards either. I hope everything works out with getting rid of your little 'visitor.'

  13. Knock on wood! This has been a fairly mouse free month around the Alfa. No signs and no dead. Got fancy new electronic traps in four of my bays and some regular snap traps around inside the coach.

  15. I've been keeping an eye out for those pesky little varmints too. Hope they get you card stuff done. Banks can be a pain in the behind.

  16. Sorry to hear about the Wells Fargo snafu. They were really on top of things when I got hacked a few months ago, which I appreciated. But it's a hassle getting the new card, I went through the same thing! Hope you get rid of the little meeces! :-)

  17. We had good luck with Wells Fargo when Jim gave out some info he shouldn't have. Hope you get your card and it works this time. The thought of mice just makes me feel icky all over. Get them!!!

  19. That would be very frustrating to say the least, and if it had happened to me, I'd be saying the most! We do appreciate the banks and credit unions being vigilant and protective, but that was overdoing it for sure.

  20. Because of fraud problems, we no longer use debit cards except at ATM's. We also never use a credit card where you have to turn it over to someone who disappears with it. Therefore, we have to pay cash in almost all restaurants. It is a pain, but we have not had anyone try to buy another computer on our dime. At least with the escort service, I could have had a bit of a chuckle as I tried to explain that to my better half:)

    Our bank is very aggressive about fraud, and we recently signed up for a new service where they will send a text message to us if they suspect a fraud issue and we can reply right away to confirm if we are actually making the charge. It will hopefully save those calls to the bank while standing in a checkout line.

  21. It is a pain, but better than having your account drained of all your money. We use our debit card exclusivly, but have several backup credit cards just in case.

    Out bank has called us immediatly when they have what they think is a bogus charge attempt, but it has always been us buying fuel.

  22. I have had trouble with my card at our WalMart, and it is their stupid scanners....After my 3rd new card, I now know I can only use checkouts 18, 19 and 21...What a pain in my behind!!

  23. Boy you are taking it all pretty well. I had the same over zelous protection of my credit card last fall. Nearly drove me crazy. I was calling them ALL THE TIME. I asked them to cut the level of "security" back a bit and I haven't had any trouble since. And a mouse to top it off.....well tomorrow is another day.

    I wish my bank would call me like Paul's does rather than just deny the card so I have to call them and go through all that automated junk.
