Enough is enough!

Sorry to say, I’ve had to ban anonymous comments to the blog.  I have been getting 20-30 of those disgusting comments each day, and the Blogger filter wasn’t up to the deluge.  As other bloggers have said, it’s too bad for people that want to comment that aren’t scuzzballs, but enough is truly enough!  I turned off anonymous comments last night, and it was an unbelievable relief to not have to deal with them today.  I suppose they’ll find some other way to gain access, but for now, that’s the way it is.

Even though it was my day off today, I had to attend a staff meeting this morning because of a special event occurring on Thursday.  After that, I just decided to spend the day relaxing.  I’ve been dealing with a messy head cold the last ten days that I hope is abating.  Simply said, between still recuperating from surgery, the cold, and working the last five days, I was worn out.

I also wanted to gather strength for my adventure tomorrow.  My friend Jack, intern Kathy, and I will drive to the west entrance to rent a boat and enjoy that side of the swamp at our own speed.  The skies will be sunny, but the polar air from the north that is gripping the east will be a challenge to bundle up enough for.  Besides several layers of clothes including gloves, I’m bringing my rain pants and poncho to wear over everything to help combat the forecasted winds.  It’s always colder out on the water.  We’ll pack a lunch to take with us.  I’m excited about the prospects of what me might see, but I’m a little apprehensive about Jack’s boat driving abilities.  I believe he was in the Navy at some point, so that should make me feel better, right?  Disappointed smile

Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later,  Judy

  1. Sorry to hear about all the scuzzballs. Did they sound like flesh-and-blood scuzzballs? My Craigslist ads have generated a lot of robot spam, plus a few potential customers, but that's about it. I just found your blog, and it looks like you travel mostly in the U.S. Have you thought about travel abroad?

  2. Those scuzzballs have really been a nusiace! Guessing that was their plan all along...why else would we get all that trash?

Anyway, hope you get some much needed R and R today and have a great time tomorrow. Bundle up...Joe was in the Navy too....thank Jack for his service.

  3. Jack will do fine in piloting the boat if he was the Navy ship's commander!

I sure can understand your problem with spam comments. So far blogger has caught a lot of them for me, but they are the usual ones with mostly links. From what I understand there are comments that are just plain down and dirty, and I guess the blogger filter doesn't catch those. Do what you have to to stay in business. I'm about ready to give up because I know that as soon as things go smoothly for a while, Blogger will give us a "new look" and the aggravation will start all over again.

  4. I blocked 'Anonymous' comments last summer & it stopped the Spam problem in it's tracks.

  5. I did away with anonymous posting ability earlier this year, even though I do have some friends who would use that way to comment now and then. I put up a "shout out" box on my blog for them. It hasn't been used much, but it's there if anyone wants to say howdy without having to go through regular Blogger channels. Has the entire world gone nutters?

  6. I did the same thing yesterday with the anonymous comments. The spam has gotten really bad lately.

Sounds like a lovely day tomorrow. Bon Voyage!

  7. Put me in the category of those who have done away with anonymous. I was so disgusted with them and life is too short to be over taken by those idiots. Rest, rest, rest and have so much fun tomorrow. Hopefully Jack won't sink the boat.

  11. Yes, I was in the Navy. Thank you. Gilligan was my teacher. Just a little 4 hour cruise.

  13. Judy, can you answer me a question. I am getting around 15 anonymous a day too. I went in to turn off the all comment button but then what do you pick? I wasn't sure. Thanks for any help. atfletcher2@gmail.com if you want to email me.

  14. I started blocking anonymous comments a week or so ago. The flood of spam has dried up! It seems we're in good blogging company with this move. We look forward to hearing about your trip to the swamp!

  15. Yup, this seems to be a recent problem. Have not had any dirty ones yet (that I know, as I can be a little dense). You probably made the right decision.

  16. Glad to see I'm not the only one suffering from a comment box full of spam...I too had to block anonymous comments.

  17. Do you have any of those packets that you squeeze and it produces warmth? You might want to take them, if you do. One think I noticed with my new knee replacements was that when in cold air, those muscles would ache a bit. Have a fun, warm day tomorrow.

  18. I'm with you - last week I, too, stopped anon comments. I was getting so many, at first I thought it was "just part of blogging," but finally the number of spam comments was too much to keep up with. Amazing! Now I don't get any spam comments. :)

  19. I don't have many followers and have received only maybe a dozen spams a week... wonder if the 2 are related? So far they haven't been a big problem, but I should learn how to turn off anonymous comments. Glad you have the opportunity to take a slow and easy boat ride... Kinda reminds me of the many tours we've been on and the tour guide wasn't a birder... they zip right past all the good stuff and never even see it! Give me the slow and easy any day.

  20. Have fun and hope you get better soon.

  21. I hope you enjoy your trip to the west side of the swamp. There is always a breeze on Billy's Lake, so bundle up.

  22. Who knows, I may be the only one left in Blogland soon who still allows anonymous comments!!

  23. Just to reassure you...not everyone in the Navy drove boats... :cO

  24. Enjoy the trip. I don't know how a boat driver relates to a semi driver, but my husband drove semi for fifteen years, and couldn't back up a pick up truck with a trailer!!! Good luck, bring a life vest!!!

  25. We can't be far behind. Still allowing Anonymous to comment, but am ready to ban the so-and-so if he gets obnoxious.

  26. I’ve noticed a lot of extra anonymous activity on my blog the past several months too. The strange thing is, most of the comments come in on one blog post I did over a year ago. So far I haven’t seen any obscene language but their English is poor so I’m guessing they are not from the US. My spam blocker catches about 50% of them.

I’m looking forward to hearing about your Tamarac adventure. It’s on our list of places to volunteer.

  27. Seems "anonymous" is on the Most Unwanted list for us bloggers...I blocked ours 2 days ago...One bad apple can spoil it for the rest of the good ones....Have fun with "Captain Jack"...Hey, I believe that is name of a good whiskey.

  28. Please give Jack "hello" and regards from Donald and Kay; we're back home now for a few months. Yuk on the anonymous bloggers! Love your photos. Hope the recovery from joint replacement is going well. Take care!

  29. I turned mine off two weeks ago after it went from a few a post to dozens of spam comments overnight. I thought it had something to do with the Dropbox site being hacked, but now not so sure.
