A short note

One of the possible side effects of the pain meds that was prescribed was nausea.  Let’s just say that my day was spent moving from a stretched out position on the coach to hugging the sink today.  I won’t be taking any more of those!

I tried to “Listen to the Mockingbird”, but it didn’t do much good.  Sad smile  Looking on the bright side, over ten thousand snow and white-fronted geese have arrived in the last two days.  I really enjoy listening to them as they fly overhead.  Stephanie has also found people to step in for me for the next few days until I get back on my feet.  I’m sure glad this didn’t happen when I was driving from Indiana to here…

Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later,  Judy

  2. Oh Judy what could make a back problem worse? Nausea. I hate this for you. Bet you wish Emma could take herself out for a walk and cook you some nice soothing tea or a spot of lunch. :-)

  3. I have some problems taking pain meds. It's worse than the pain it's supposed to help. I feel so bad for you and wish there was something I could do.

  6. Judy, if you are taking your pain meds on an empty stomach that could be the problem??? My heart goes out to you, I know exactly what you are going through!

  7. I have never been able to take muscle relaxants as they make me extremely nauseous, they are also hard on one's stomach!

Hope you get to feeling better soon!! :)

  8. Hi, Judy. I'm an anonymous follower of yours. Have been sympathizing with you for months!!
Years ago I had a big problem with muscles. The pharmacist told me to BURY the muscle relaxants, etc. in food. I wonder if you did that? 'Cause living with the pain is no fun, either. Hope you get better quick. You deserve a carefree spell! Rose

  10. Gee, I cannot believe that things have not improved for you. Take it easy and get better soon! I would say relax, but I know that is a lot easier said than done.

  12. I'm sorry to hear you've your stomach is giving you so much trouble when you're trying to get your back back in shape.

Having chummed the Seven Seas, I know you're not having a good time. Hope the nausea passes quickly.

  13. Judy I feel so bad for you. Wish I was closer so I could help. I agree with some of the other posters about taking your pill with lots of food. Some bread or crackers and milk works for me. Best wishes.

  14. Man I fell for you. Like being sick to your stomach is helping your back problem. If you need to take those pills yes food is first and milk or some dairy product to coat the stomach.
Hope you can relax so the pain eases up.

  15. I am so sorry to hear about your nausea, Judy, especially on top of your back pain. I hope you will soon feel better. And yes, be grateful that you weren' driving or enroute when this happened.

  16. Like so many others, I can't take pain meds, either. I've been using heat and I'm on anti-inflamatory for another two weeks.

For heat I bought something in the drug store (sorry forgot the name), but it's full of beans or something. You put it in the microwave for 1.25 minutes and it molds to your body. It's much better than a heating pad, and it's surprising how long it stays warm.

I hope you feel better very soon.

  17. I can't take any strong pain killers either. I take 4 advil every 8 hours instead and it seems to do the trick.

  18. So sorry. There are some pain meds out there that do the same to me or give me horrible headaches. Write this one down so you can tell your physician.

  19. I think you have been thru to much lately and it's time for some good mojo your way.

  20. Good idea to put the meds aside. Hope the exercises are bringing so comfort.

  21. Alieve or Advil can help out quite a bit without the nausea. We all want your life to get on a nice smooth plane and stop the roller coaster ups and downs. You deserve better IMHO.

  22. You are one tough lady! Can't believe you put a meal in the crock pot before going to the ER. Hope you feel better real soon...

  23. I'm sending you good thoughts for pain-free, drug-free days. The meds can be a welcome relief for the pain, but they carry their own curse. Hang in there and get well soon!

  24. Are you sure it was the pain meds or the muscle relaxers? When I hurt my back the Dr gave me a RX for Flexeril (muscle relaxer) and a heavy duty Ibuprofen.

My back spasms subsided but I was so nauseas and dizzy that I couldn't even get out of bed, or even raise my head. It was HORRIBLE. I thought it was the pain meds but later realized it was the Flexeril.

  25. Yuck. Back pain is so frustrating. I'd do without the meds if I could. I'd rather hurt than throw up.

  26. Hope you are beginning to feel a bit better by now. Back pain is very debilitating.

  27. They gave me heavy narcotics for kidney stones and I "ralphed" them back up..Nope, no more for me either. My son and daughter-in-law (paramedic and nurse) told me to take 4 200mg(OTC) ibuprofen instead...That is also an anti-inflammatory, which helps....

  28. Sunday.....Is your back any better today? The heavy hitting pain meds can be a blessing sometimes but on the other hand they can cause problems too...nausea, fuzzy headedness, irregularity, intestinal blockage. A friend who had her knees replaced had a terrible time. Not with the knees so much as the problems caused by the pain meds.

  29. Sorry to hear your back problem! Is there a different med which you can switch to? Hope you feel better soon!

    ReplyDelete
  30. If you do decide to take more make sure it is on a full stomach and even if you switch to advil/ibuprofen. Taking on a full stomach will help combat the nausea. It doesn't always get rid of it totally but it makes it better. Take care, hoping its better in a day or so

  31. I had knee surgery two years ago and wasn't able to take pain meds due to the nausea. Ibuprofen worked pretty good for me. I sure hope you're feeling better soon!

  32. Judy sure hope your feeling better real soon!!

  33. Oh Judy! Sciatica is the worse pain anyone can have in their back! The muscle relaxants should be helpful . I have never been able to cope with prescription pain meds either. Try doubling the OTC of your choice, but keep eating a little every few hours.

We just got back from our second adventure and I'm taking a break from the job of emptying out all our stuff and cleaning the Alfa up.

I haven't read any other blogs. I just went right you yours because I have been thinking about you all weekend. When you miss posting I knew you were really in pain.

Take care and take it easy.

  34. Judy - isn't it lovely that so many people are concerned about you?

About meds, I have found I can not tolerate acetaminophen PM. Each time I've taken it I am lightheaded, dizzy and nauseous the next day for about two hours. I won't even attempt to ever take it again. Even OTC meds can affect each of us different.
