Two ho-hum days

I’ve used yesterday and today to recuperate from working the VIS this weekend.  While the pain in my back is much better, it is still a constant companion.  In between remaining prone on the couch, I’ve been taking care of ordinary chores around the rig like laundry and meal preparation.  I even tackled using the vacuum today.  It was a chore that was not possible for me to do last week.

Today started with the electricity going out about 7:30 for over three hours.  It’s been in the 80’s and very humid, so I took this as an opportunity to exercise the generator.  At least that’s done for the month.  It kicked right in, and I was able to stay very comfortable during the outage.

The forecast for this afternoon was for high winds, severe storms, and possible tornadoes.  I put away my outside furniture and battened down the hatches.  Apparently Houston got plenty of rain, but all we got was dark skies and a few drops of rain.  Houston is about 27” behind in rain this year, and the refuge could have also used a good dousing.  The skies rumbled and Emma trembled, but all for naught.  The winds have even quit.

The result of no winds is that I got five mosquito bites taking Emma out after dinner.  They even bit through my thick socks!  Ugh!  I hate mosquitoes.

I’m hoping to do something more interesting tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later,  Judy

  2. The say in the north that that "Deep Woods Off" works well but only if you smear it on thick enough that their stingers can't reach through.

  5. Poor Emma, so scared of thunder, then no rain. Hey, we don't have mosquitoes here in WI. At least now we don't. Hoping your back continues to improve. Take care.

  8. That was the only good thing about being a smoker. Mosquitoes didn't bite me very often and when they did I didn't welt up. (Don't smoke anymore, We shall see if the country's blood suckers like me now. We don't have any here, too dry all summer.

  14. Have you tried all the things people use to keep the mosquitoes away? I have something here, but luckily haven't seen any yet, so I don't know if it works.

  15. Jim is lucky - his back only hurts when he tries to walk. Rest is definitely what you need. We just don't recover like we used to. I am so grateful that there aren't mosquitoes out here during the winter time. I hate, hate, hate, them.

  16. Maybe try a chiropractor, Donna has had good luck with her's. Were lucky with Rigg's, storms don't seem to bother him. Now Nicole the granddaughter is another matter and runs for the companionship of Grandpa when a thunder storm comes up,Be safe out there. Sam & Donna...

  19. Emma needs a "thunder jacket"...my niece bought one for her scared of storms dog and it works wonders to calm her down. Supposedly works like swaddling a baby, or autistic child who liked tight hugs..Online about $35...Google it..Maybe you could use one too..They fit pretty snug..may help your back :-P...

  20. George Stoltz says:

Can you get a longer stick to use for the awnings?

Geez I don't want you to strain your back or shoulder muscles leaning out the window like that.
