Here we go again

Remember last night when I mentioned I was a little nervous about the ice maker in the fridge?  Well, my worst fears came true last night.  Not only was the fridge not making ice, but the temps were creeping upwards.  Along about 10:00 pm, I emptied most of the food from the freezer that I had been stockpiling for my journey and took them up to the bunkhouse freezer section of that refrigerator.  I’m sure glad I did.  By this morning the freezer was at 50* and the fridge part was at 70*.

I’ll be doing battle with Samsung once again.  It is almost two years ago that the same thing happened to me while I was traveling.  At least this time, I’m at a place where I could move my freezer contents to a safe place.

I called Samsung this morning, and they are supposedly finding someone to repair it.  Of course it will take up to 2 days for them to get a hold of me to set up an appointment.  If I receive no contact, I’m to call Samsung back.  I don’t have a very good feeling about this in the pit of my stomach.  I’m not exactly close to a metropolitan area.

I reread all of my blog posts from two years ago to refresh my memory on what happened last time with the same situation.  I would just like to say that this sucks!  In the meantime, I’m once again using my bottom freezer area as a cooler.  I’ll be making trips to town each day to buy ice.

I really doubt I’ll be able to leave by Thursday, and that makes me feel bad.  My plans included stopping at Sam and Donna’s place near St. Louis to visit for a few days, and Donna has already arranged some time off from work.  Last time, no one would consider fixing the fridge, and I had to hot foot it to my favorite repair place in Scott, LA, for a replacement.  I can’t believe I got two lemons in a row!

I sure hope ‘Minnesota Nice’ means someone will fix my refrigerator…

Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later,  Judy

  1. I think of all the appliances in my RV that I hated and distrusted the most, it was the fridge. I had no end of problems with it. I sure hope you can get it fixed quickly so you can get on with your plans.

  2. Sure am sorry to hear about your troubles with the refrigerator. Since it is a Samsung I assume (?) that this is a residential type and not the good old Dometic/Norcold RV type? Hopefully that will mean a more widespread repair system and less expensive parts...

    Good luck!

  3. Oh dear. That sucks. Sure hope you get it all sorted out. Two years is not nearly long enough.

  4. I can't believe you're having fridge troubles again and only after two years! I thought Samsung made good products. You've certainly changed my opinion of them.

I'm pulling for you, hope it works out quickly and to your satisfaction. Warm ice cream is no fun! :c(

  5. Wow that seems totally unfair that you should only get 2 years out your refrig. We have a dometic and it has been running great for 10 years. I sure won't ever let anyone talk me into a Samsung. Crossing my fingers there is the perfect Norweigan fix guy right up the road.

  7. What a bummer. I hope you can get it repaired quickly to make your departure date. Amazing that it waited till now to fail. At the very least, you're headed for Louisiana and Scott isn't too far from Bayou Cocodrie. good luck.

  8. Judy sorry to hear about the frig, but that is a big must item in an rv. Hope you will still be able
to stop and see us, really looking forward to meeting you and Emma

  9. Oh crum. No what I really wanted to say. Sure hope they can find somebody to fix it for you or replace it quickly. Just what you don't need right now.

  11. Jeez, at this rate, perhaps buying a supplemental 12v cooler is prudent. Those darn RV fridges (and now, it seems, Samsung residential fridges as well) always seem to find the most inappropriate time to start acting up. Well, I hope they do find a handsome, friendly Norwegian man to solve all your (fridge) troubles!!!

  13. Hope you get it fixed soon, but it may take a few days or longer. It seems repairs move slowly here in the North Woods:)

  15. Boo... We had to have ours replaced in Bethel, ME, in July. Bethel is definitely not on the beaten path. Hope yours can be fixed in place and you don't have to wait on one to arrive.
I imagine you already know that block ice melts slower from your previous experience.

  16. What a downer! Hope you have better (and quicker) luck getting it fixed or replaced than before.

  17. So sorry to hear about your Samsung fridge. We also have a Samsung, so our fingers are crossed -- but we did buy the 3-year warranty on the advice of the sales person. I Think that was a good move for us as we have a friend in South Carolina who is on her 3rd Samsung in three years. At least they replace the unit with the latest model. I hope your situation has a happy ending and soon.

  18. Rats! That is really unbelievable for a residential fridge.

  20. Our new rig has a residential fridge. It's a Whirlpool. Kinda nervous as it runs on electric or 12v. No Propane. Wondering if that is enough while not hooked up for a day or so. We do have a generator. Hoping they get to the bottom of yours. After living with an RV fridge for 5 years, sure is nice to have the room to actually store stuff and an ice maker. Hope its worth the trade up. I know Donna is anxious for your visit. Hope you can still get it in.

  21. Thank you for reporting on your Samsung. I have made a mental not to replace my RV refrigerator with a home model when it becomes necessary. Based on your experience and that of George & Sandy's friend in SC I now have made a second mental note - do not replace with a Samsung.

  22. Thanks everybody for sharing about brands and types of refrigerators. Knock on wood I haven't had any problem with my new to me RV frig. but I, too, like to stock frozen food for travel days especially. Hope this issue is fixed rapidly.

  23. Wow, your second one. We just replaced our RV fridge with a Samsung in May. This makes me nervous. With a fire in the passed week in the RV park do to a RV fridge we are glad we changed out our RV fridge. You can see photo's of the fire on our blog. This is the second fire we saw caused by a RV fridge. We are still glad we did change out our RV fridge, for that reason, but hope we don't have any problems with our Samsung.

  24. It's strange how these things seem to happen just when we're ready to travel.

  25. Hope it's a quick fix! Our fridge is a Whirlpool and, so far, it works great. It's 3 years old. Keeping fingers crossed.

  26. I am so sorry! What a real bother to have to worry about that and just when you were about to be on the road...It does suck!
    Good luck!

  27. That's really crummy about the fridge...I thought Samsung was supposed to be an excellent company, but now, I'm not so sure! They make great TV's though!

  28. So sorry. Hoping this gets positively resolved FAST.
