A coming family visit

I got an email from my daughter, Robyn, in the last couple of days saying she and her family would be driving down to Disneyworld in the early part of March.  Since they would be driving from Indiana, I asked if they were planning to stop to visit me at Okefenokee.  After speaking with her husband, Dennis, she got back to me that they all would be stopping by on March 8-10.

The two grandgirls will be coming with them so I suggested they stay in one of the cabins at Okefenokee Pastimes Campground.  I can’t fit them all in the rig with me, and I have been very pleased staying at this small, very clean, friendly place.

Today I asked to see one of the cabins to determine if it would be suitable.  Kurt helped me case the joint, and pointed out the features for me to photograph.  There are bunk beds for Avery and Phoebe.

Dennis and Robyn can use this double bed.  (That will be a challenge since they’re used to a king size bed.)  I want to note that Kurt doesn’t use a cane, he was just carrying it along for me so I could get up the stairs.  Who amongst you gear heads can identify the picture on his tee shirt?

He was game for posing until I asked him to model the ‘throne’.  Winking smile  But it didn’t take much to persuade him so I could show the bathroom and kitchenette area.  He’s such a ham!  It’s making my recovery time quite enjoyable to have him around.

I thought the cabin was perfect for their visit, so told C I was interested in reserving it after I spoke to Robyn.  Within the hour, C came to the rig to report that the reservations were pouring in, and there was only one cabin left for that weekend.  I used Kurt’s cell phone to leave a message for Robyn to get back to me ASAP.  Surprisingly she called within the hour, and I went down to the office to put down a reservation deposit.

So Robyn, Dennis, Avery, and Phoebe (Buckle) will be staying three nights before they head to Disneyworld.  I’m excited about that.  I plan to send a post card to the girls with lots of alligators on it asking them to come visit me soon.  I’ll be back on the refuge by then, and I know I won’t have any trouble getting those days off for their visit.  Cool Beans!!

Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later,  Judy

  2. I am so glad that you getting around so well, Judy.
How is Emma, is she back home with you?
The cabins are small but quite comfy.
I think the design on Nurse Ratchet's shirt is a Harley head gasket?

  4. The cabin looks very nice and I'm sure they will be comfortable there, as well as close to you. My husband and I slept in a double bed, and at night one by one of the 4 kids would "sneak" in and join us. There was always a kid laying across my feet, and a couple between my husband and me. I cradled the baby in my arms so he was safe. It makes me laugh when I hear people shudder at the thought of not having a king sized bed for two people.

  5. You know, if the double bed is too small, the girls could double up and the parents could use the bunk beds. I'm sure they will figure out something that works. It looks like a nice little cabin. Glad you are getting a visit from family. Do you have to pay your nurse extra for modeling duties LOL??

  7. Looks like a 4 barrel carburetor gasket on Kurt's shirt, sold many of those over the years.

  12. That's what we plan to do if we have family or friends come for a visit ... find a campground with a cabin. Having Robyn and family visit for a few days will be a grand way to celebrate your new-found mobility.

  13. Well you certainly have some great days to look forward to!! The cabin will be perfect. If they don't want the double bed, give them your rig to use, and you can have a pajama party with just the girls. That would be so much fun, watching videos and staying up half the night girl talking!!

  16. Very cool beans!
    My beans are frozen solid.
Do me a favor Energizer Bunny Woman, try not to unzip the incision the surgeon so carefully created. It takes time to mend up solid! If you don't behave, all those expensive bionic parts may fall out onto the ground.
(Just kidding, have a great time ;))

  17. Love that little cabin. Some KOA's have them but only for sleeping no bathroom never mind a kitchen. You will all have fun for sure.
When I saw the cane was worried you may have whacked him with the walker or something :) Your getting around and that is a good thing for your recovery keep it up.

  19. That shirt looks like the bottom gasket for a quadrajet 4 bbl carb. Took many of those apart as a young motorhead.Looks like you are getting along better. I remember when my Mom had her hip replaced all she could marvel at was they let her stay awake and the surgeon used a Makita cordless drill to drill her for the new hip.Mom was sort of a motorhead too. My Dad couldn't fix anything.Be safe put there. Sam & Donna...

  20. That looks like a nice cabin. It is great that you will be able to see the kids again soon. All I can tell you is that it is a gasket, I was thinking some kind of motorcycle. It looks like you are making great progress, with that new hip

  22. What great news. This will be a great "jump start" to the girls visit to Disney.

The cabins look very spacious. Who knows...maybe they will enjoy a double bed for a change...hehe

  26. Nice that the gang will be stopping by for a visit. Kurt did a great job showing off the cabin, even in his Holley four barrel gasket t-shirt.

Yep, he could get a job on the Price is Right... ;c)

  30. You sound so positive. The little cabin looks great. Nothing like a little family closeness. The kids will love it.

    Glad to have you "back".

  31. Any air freshener, Febreeze or Carpet Fresh in the cabins? I'm allergic and always on the lookout for places that are fragrance-free-friendly. KOA is bare bones, but I had a bad experience recently with the Kentucky State Park cabins. The first cabin we stayed in was ok, but the second one was so perfumed that opening the windows didn't help and I had to sleep in the car on a 37 degree night. Brr!
