I sneezed twice today

To most people, two sneezes spaced out over an afternoon would not be a noteworthy occurrence.  However, in my world, it could be a sign.  I often have sneezing attacks in the evening that include about twenty or so sneezes in a row.  I don’t think those little attacks have anything to do with the rig, as I’ve had them for years no matter where I am or what I might be living in.  As for the two isolated sneezes I had today, let me digress a little.

IMG_6284Last weekend my friends, and fellow volunteers, Diana and John attended a couple of Mardi Gras parades.  They got out all the beads that they caught from the parades to pose for a family portrait with their dog Buffy.  (I wanted to post a picture of Diana so you’ll know who I’ll be working with, and mentioning in my posts, for the next couple of months)

This happened while my daughter, Robyn, and grandgirl Avery were visiting.  It seemed only fitting that we also got a portrait.  (Avery was napping at the time)  Emma wore the beads, but her expression seems to be one of disgust for me asking her to wear those beads.  Annoyed

Anyway, so what does all this have to do with two sneezes?  Well, both Robyn and Avery had congestion and coughing while they were here from colds.  I believe the normal time for contracting a cold is about a week after exposure to the germs, and it’s been just about that long.  And many of you know about the close confinement and sharing of most everything in a motorhome.  The noteworthy part of all of this is that I haven’t had a cold since 2003!  Yep, I can remember the last time I had a cold.

I probably would have ignored those two sneezes, but this evening I have a funny feeling in my nose and throat, and that’s not a good thing.  Aw shucks!  This is not the way I wanted to remember their visit.  I don’t have time to get sick.  I’ve got my Mentholatum, Puffs, and chicken noodle soup all ready just in case, but I’m hoping it’s just a figment of my imagination.  I don't know smile

Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later,  Judy

  1. I've had very good luck with Coldeeze and/or Zicam which I got at Walmart. As soon as I feel a cold start, I take one of these OTC medications. My colds have been much less severe. Coldeeze is cheaper and seems to work just as good. Good luck and I hope it's nothing!

  2. Zinc, or Zicam at the first sign of a cold will reduce most of the cold symptoms. I swear by it, it works like magic. Little kids always share their colds.

  3. Oh good, you're sneezing from your daughter & granddaughter's visit, not from the dust that is still on your motorhome... ;c)

  4. Hope you don't get a cold. I can't remember the last time I had a cold. But I always take benedryl when I'm getting stopped up so maybe that helps fight colds as well.

  5. At least it's not the flu we got in Indio! They say that if you treat a cold it will go away in a week, and if you don't treat it it will take a week to get over it. Hope you don't get it too bad.
Rest and OJ seem to help me.

  6. I have been sneezing and reaching for the Kleenex, but it's allergies, I'm sure. Like Marilyn, I find Benadryl to be the best for relief, but I can only take it at night for a terrific night's sleep. I use Claritin D during the day. I hope your symptoms are due to allergies and not a cold.

    1. It might be too late now, but at the first signs of a cold you should take a lot of Vit. C and D, (at least 1000 units of each, and pour a little hydrogen peroxide in your ears. Sounds silly, but it works.

  8. Zicam does seem to reduce the symptoms and help shorten the duration of a cold. Buffy reminds me so much of the miniature Eskimo we had when we were living in SLC; still fondly remember Pamuk (which means cotton in Turkish).

  9. I just suffer through when I get a cold. A little Nyquil to get me through the night and that's about it. I hate taking anything.

  10. Get some Zinc Fast! I can chase a cold away with mega doses of Zinc....but it must come quickly after symptoms are noted.

  16. I will agree with the comments on the zinc (cold eze or zicam or a generic) a dose every 4 hours when you first feel the cold coming on. Emma does not seem to have the Mardi Gras sprit :)

  17. I will jump in with my 2 cents worth of home remedies. I am not one for taking OTC meds, I find that drinking an entire can of unsweetened grapefruit juice along with a couple aspirin and head to bed early...seems to knock it out of me. Goofy I know! Hope you don't need any of our ideas though after all.

    Just BS!(Bob and Sue)

  19. Well you've had a lot of what to do for colds advice so I think you are covered and I won't weigh in. Actually I don't have a clue since I can't remember the last time I had one but then I don't have any toddlers around in my life sadly.

Love the pictures of everyone with the beeds. Poor Emma does look like she's rather disgusted with the whole thing. :-)

  20. I use a cold as an excuse to take Nyquil so I get a good night's sleep every once in a while. :)

  22. I always worry about getting sick after visits with grandchildren. Sometimes I get out okay, sometimes I drive away sick. I was worried after my surgery, because everyone was sick, but I made it through, thank goodness. I hope you don't catch that cold, or if you do, that it is an easy, quick one. :)

    Howdy Judy & embarrassed Emma,
Judy, I'm so sorry you gotta'um the sniffles, but you gat to have company!!
What do people do with ALL OF THOSE BEADS; SELL'EM BACK TO THE VENDORS for next year?? Have you been back out to the BBQ that burned, to see how they're doing?? We haven't had a cold all 'winter'becuse we don't get in crowds or eat 'fast food'!! The last colds we had we took Alka-SeltzerPlus!! I always heard a good remedy was a cup of Jack Daniels, a slice of lemon and roll-up in a blanket/quilt/comforter and sweat it out.. Please, get well!!!

  26. Mentholatum!!! Yeah girl! Most kids nowadays have never heard of it. I've been using it for over 50 years. My Grandma Connie used it for everything. I keep it handy especially when I travel for chapped lips. I still haven't figured out how to get it out from under my fingernail before I forget and rub my eyeball though... OW!!! lol!
