Getting ready for the birthday girl

Yesterday was Avery Jade’s fourth birthday.  She’s my oldest granddaughter, and she and her mother, Robyn, will be flying in to the Biloxi airport for a short visit with me this Saturday.

Robyn sent me this picture of the birthday girl and her birthday cake.

Robyn is quite talented when it comes to making fancy cakes.  She made this whole cake except for the Diego figure on the top.  (I’m not sure who Diego is, but I have recorded some Diego shows for Avery to watch while she visits.  Now if it was Grover or Big Bird, I’d be familiar with that. Smile)  I just love the monkeys and the leopard.

Today was spent doing things a Grandma needs to do to get ready for a visit from the little birthday girl.  That included vacuuming out the back seat of the car to get rid of all of Emma’s shed hair, and putting in this new booster car seat.  It’s been over 30 years since I’ve needed to have a car seat!

Then there was the trip to the grocery store to make sure I had essentials like mini ice cream sandwiches, shaved ham lunch meat, and hot dogs for a cookout on one evening.  Last week I was able to get a supply of honey roasted pecans from the Pecan House.  I know those are some of Avery’s favorite things.  Including Emma, this is going to be a house of four women this weekend.  It will be fun having them for their first sleep over with Grandma.  Oh yeah, I also made sure I had a new tube of super bubbles!  I’m hoping ‘Emma the Gog’ will behave herself.Who me?

Tomorrow, 34 members of a women’s group are scheduled to come for a tour and activities, so I’m hoping we’ll find some cranes.

It promises to be another interesting day.  The big decision for tonight is to choose whether or not to vacuum the rig and suck up more dog hair.  Being the very experienced procrastinator that I am, I’m thinking that it would be better to do it tomorrow evening…

Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later,  Judy

  1. Beautiful little girl, and a beautiful cake! Diego and Dora the Explorer are big right now, but I'd take Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, and the Count any day! Have a wonderful girls' weekend.

  14. You're a good grandma. That cake is delightful ... I bet Avery loved it. I know I enjoyed the special birthday cakes mom ordered for me when I was a little girl ... wish I had pictures of them.

  16. Beautiful cake! How exciting, a sleep over! Hope the weather is nice and you see some cranes. And BTW, you cannot stream movies with a 5GB Verizon aircard!! We normally use an aircard, too, a Millenicom with 10GB limit but this RV park has smoking fast free WiFi so I was streaming using it.

  17. Wow that's some cake. I'm with you, no idea who Dora and Diego are but I bet you will be able to explain it to me after the week-end. :-)

She's a lucky little girl to get a plane ride AND a sleep over with Grandma for her birthday. Although it seems we don't have too many memories from before school age, I'll bet this is one you can ask her about when she's 20 and she'll remember.

  18. Yes, the cake is adorable....and I know a lot of work.
we should all take a pool and guess what day after they leave that the grin will finally come off your face. :-) Enjoy your girls.
Vaccuum at last minute...Emma will shed right up until they walk in the door.

  23. Dora and Diego are a lot less boring than a lot of the characters that were out there before. The cake is fabulous. You better rest up while you can because 4 year olds can take the starch out of you. Don't worry about Emma the Gog, she'll be just fine.

  24. Um, I'd just wait & vacuum after they're gone - it'll REALLY need it then... Have a good time, but remember to pace yourself - you don't wanna wear out that cute little girl.

  26. GK'S are the best -- I always say If I had known they were so much fun I would have had them first -- My GKS loved sleepovers with Grandma. We always had lots of snacks and juice and those little Jiffy Pop Popcorns-- they loved cooking it (with supervision) when we were camping--it was a thrill to watch their eyes when it started to pop and the longer it popped the bigger it got---Have a fun weekend enjoy your GrandGirl--they grow up too fast!!!
