Nearly Wordless Wednesday

One of the things that I do as a volunteer on the refuge is pick up trash that the fishermen and general public throw out their windows on the refuge.  Perhaps by the end of this post you will understand why I don’t find this assignment distasteful.  Although, I do find the fact, that it is necessary to pick up after thoughtless people, is disgusting.

  6. Your photos of the Herons make my pics of the water birds look like a grade schooler took them...but I still love the fact that I saw it first hand...Isn't it great?...Sometimes the act of being there with camera in hand is worth everything..Happy Turkey Day!

  9. Just wondering why you don't consider ordering biodegradable dog poop bags because the free plastic bags will end up being more trash - more than the dog poo itself!

  13. When I go hiking/walking in the forest, I always take collection bags with me to pick up the litter left behind. Fortunately, I usually have little to bring back, but other times I'm just amazed at the thoughtlessness of people. I'll keep doing it, and I'll work on trying to not be angry about how some people discount their responsibility. And now I know I'm in good company!!

  14. What a beautiful photo of the heron about to take flight. Thanks for taking the time to post all these wonderful photos. I am saddened when I see the trash people leave behind. Happy Thanksgiving to you and Emma.

  15. Happy Thanksgiving! Great shots; I can see why you didn't mind trash duty, but a shame that there's even a need for this duty.

  16. It seems no matter where we go in our boon docking travels we always find evidence of people's thoughtlessness and total disregard for nature. Broken glass from booze bottles is the number one culprit!!

  20. When we volunteered at Bonneville Lock and Dam we had to pick up trash, too, mostly from fishermen. Not a pleasant task but we were on the Columbia River so the scenery was also nice. Too bad people have to be so inconsiderate.
    Loved your pics! Happy Thanksgiving.

  21. It just makes me sick that people can be such slobs. We see people throwing trash out the windows and I just want to pull them over and make them pick it up. Where did they get the idea that the earth is their trash can???? Sorry about the rant.
    Great pictures

  23. Happy Thanksgiving to you, too!

Love the first three cuties and the Great Blue Heron photo. I love taking bird photos, but I never know what they are called. I'm starting to go back and label the ones you identify in my comment section.
