Farewell Mitzi…

We stayed close to home today as Pam and Stan were waiting for a call from the animal hospital about Mitzi’s condition.  She was there overnight as the vets tried to cleanse her system through IVs.  Since we rotate days for preparing dinner when we’re together, it was my turn to cook.  As I put the finishing touches on our early dinner over the fire, they got a call from the hospital that things had not only not improved but had worsened.  They were asked to come to the hospital as soon as they could.  That meant a 90 minute drive to the Purdue University Animal Hospital for them.  Needless to say, it was a strained, quick meal.

The chairs now sat empty as they made their sad journey to help Mitzi over the Rainbow Bridge.  They were able to arrive in time to say their goodbyes to their loyal companion, and she was able to recognize them one last time before her departure.

As Emma and I sat outside for tonight’s sunset, I shed tears for their loss and sorrow…

Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later,  Judy

  9. I have loved and lost so many times. Just reading about another beloved pet passing makes me sad for their owners and causes me to remember my own. It's part of the deal though. Their lives are so much shorter.

Give Emma an extra hug from a far off friend.

  20. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge...together...

  21. I feel badly for Pam and Stan. As you know we just lost our last dog a week ago. But the happy memories of what she brougt to our lives has helped diminish the sadness.

    My sincere condolences.

  23. Very sorry to hear about Mitzi. All dogs have such good souls. At least we know that nothing will ever hurt her, again. That's how I console myself having lost my precious Lizzie 1-1/2 years ago.

Jack (my yellow lab) and I have been through some rough times, lately, but we're hoping to be able to hit the road, again, one day, soon. We'll see.

Love your blog. Excellent photography. I have to read past posts, yet, as I just found you.
