A royal pain in the neck

I’ve been feeling a few little twinges in my neck the last couple of days.  Have you ever woken up with a stiff neck?  Well, I felt pretty good this morning, but as the day wore on my neck got stiffer and stiffer.

(Tonight’s pics are from one year ago at Balcones Canyonlands NWR in Texas, since I couldn’t wield my camera today.)

I was able to make it in to get my scheduled hair cut before the neck cramping set in, thank goodness.

Things just seemed to deteriorate as the day progressed.  I’ve never had cramps in my neck, but that’s what it feels like.  Sad smile They were painful enough to bring me to tears and cursing!

I’ve resorted to ice packs now.  Twenty minutes on, twenty minutes off.  I sure hope it helps.

I’m going to see if I can find a comfortable position in the recliner, keep the ice packs coming, and just zone out watching ‘Dances with Wolves.’  I have plans for tomorrow, so I hope things improve.

Thanks for stopping by…. talk to you later,  Judy

  1. Good luck with the neck. That can be so miserable. I hope tomorrow is a better day for you and your plans. :)

  2. Be careful with that neck. Do you have any other symptoms? A stiff neck can mean meningitis. It probably isn't but doesn't hurt to be aware.

  3. Sorry to hear of the "pain in the neck". Maybe try heat after the ice. "Dances with Wolves" is my favorite show...enjoy.
Hope tomorrow finds the pain gone!

  4. ACK! Yes, I've dealt with a stiff neck. I sympathize, sincerely! I hope your taking some anti-inflammatories!

    Love the pictures!

  5. We have all had them, and the frustrating thing is we can never figure out the cause so we can prevent them in the future. I hope this goes away quickly, Sounds like you are doing all the right things.

  6. Meningitis is a worst-case scenario. Sounds like it's just an inflamed muscle or tendon. (I say "just" - either of those is extremely painful if you are over 30).

You are doing the right thing by applying heat. Take some ibuprofen round the clock. A light massage (even a self-administered one) will increase the blood flow, alleviate the spasm, and speed the repair.

P.S. Is that an antler Emma is gnawing on?

  7. I have not had a stiff neck that sounds like what you're dealing with. Hope what you're doing helps. Yes, it was a scone coma!

  8. I dread having any kind of pain or discomfort in my neck. If you take an anti-inflammatory, and you probably should, be sure to eat when you take it. I hope the pain goes away quickly. If it lingers maybe you should see a doctor and at least get an RX for a muscle relaxer.

  14. I have had neck problems for years and when it flares, I alternate heat and cold. Also, you might be able to find a soft cervical collar at Wal-Mart or a medical supply house. Sometimes it helps to have that additional support until teh spasms let up. Anti-inflamatories and/or muscle relaxants are helpful. Take care and feel better fast.

  16. I'm with Sandra on the meningitis - get it checked out - it could be very serious. A friend of mine recently had it.

  17. I'm the queen of inflamed tendons...They told me ice and ibuprofen or aleve...and stay off it (rest it...no sudden head jerks to catch a bird in flight.smile..)...Alternate ice and heat may be the answer...also..a good Merlot.

  19. Sure hope you feel better soon! Anneke has quite some neck pain at times. It makes me run for cover!

I feel a bit guilty now, as I thought you were going to say you were tired of listening to all the coverage of the royal wedding. :(

  21. I too want to wish you speedy recovery. I know how that feels but have not had it for awhile. Keep smiling though!!

  22. Hope your neck is getting better by now. I find heat helps me the most, but different strokes for different folks. Ice has always made me tense up which seemed to make it worse. Take care.

  23. Judy, neck pain was part of the virus I'm getting over. I still have the pain, took 2 Advil last night, and one today. They helped a little. A woman and a man at work both have neck pain, too. I hope yours goes away soon! It's not fun.

  24. Judy, just catching up on blogs. I have had lots of neck issues, never sure what sets it off. The ice 20 on 20 off was a great start. Read todays post too and sounds like it is improving.Like others have said anti inflamatories (ibuprofen or aleve). For ibuprofen take 3 every 6 hours for a couple days. Make sure to take with food as they can sometimes be hard on the stomach. If you stay on top of it for a few days instead of waiting for it to wear off it will be more affective. Hope all goes well.
