“Mama said there’d be days like this…”

“There’d be days like this, my Mama said…”  Remember that tune from the 60’s?  Well, my Mama never said there would be 10 days like this in a row!  The saga continues…The sealer kits for the levers actually arrived this morning, and the rig was taken off to have the back levelers removed.  The tech told me he’d bring the rig back as soon as he could so I wouldn’t have to sit in the car with Emma while it rained outside.  He could work on installing the new seals without the rig.  I appreciated that.  It’s a lot easier to while away the time in inclement weather inside the rig as opposed to being cooped up in the car.

I spent my time mapping my next stop on my way to Anahuac NWR in Texas.  Along about 2:30, Sean, my contact in the service department, came knocking on my door.  I hopped up to answer fully expecting that he would want to take the rig back to have the levers reinstalled.  It was not to be.  It turns out that the levelers wouldn’t hold a seal because of grooves on the legs.  Okay, so what does that mean?  It means I have to have both levelers replaced.  They don’t make these things ahead of time.  They only manufacture them on an as needed basis, and it takes 7 days to make them at Power Gear in Wisconsin.  OMG, tell me it isn’t so!  So, dear friends, to make a much longer story short, I will continue to reside in the Camping World parking lot for about the next ten days.  To put it bluntly, this sucks big-time!

However, I have to tell you that these delays have not been the fault of Camping World.  They wanted to order new levelers from the beginning, but the extended warranty folks said no; try the seal kit.  Power Gear was also remiss in not sending out the kits on the day they were ordered, but waited four days!  The folks here at Camping World have been quite accommodating, and not only took the rig to dump the tanks (after being here 8 days), but filled the fresh water tank, and provided me with directions to the nearest laundromat.   I’m sure they would like to see me gone as much as I’d like to be gone.  So, I’ll be looking for more touristy things to do for the next week or so.  At least I’ve got 50 amps and the DISH set up.  :)

There were a couple of comments left on last night’s post that helped to lift my spirits.  JB made me chuckle with his comment about holding the record for being the longest RV visitor to Boise since Idaho became a state.  Well, JB, looks like I might just get there!  MARGIE also gave me the advice to just go out and take some photos to calm down…so, late this afternoon, I did.
52 On the way to Anahuac 20102I had replied to Margie that there wasn’t anything left to take photos of in this parking lot, but after the further happenings today I thought I’d give it a try anyway.  Hence, the collage of license plates from the parking lot.  :)

I also went back to check on the milkweed pods after two days of rain.  They’re looking a little different now.
_MG_6074Dandelions do seem to carry on through three of the four seasons!  :)
_MG_6082The view of I-84 and beyond from the top of the small rise behind the rig.  There are traffic sounds 24/7, but I don’t hear them much with all the windows closed.

I even found a small marshy area near the road with these maturing cattails.  Thanks, Margie, I’m a little calmer now.  :)

Thanks for stopping by….talk to you later,  Judy

  1. That song is now reverberating within my skull, where it shall remain for at least 36 hours. Thanks :P *sings*

I hate to hear that you're still marooned out there. :( There's nothing I can write here that I think would cheer you up about the situation. I can only say you that you're actually out there, living the dream that so many of your followers (myself included) either yearn for or are working towards. That includes the ups and the downs, and by the time this ordeal is over with, I hope you are graced with something absolutely glorious to witness -- and hopefully photograph and post to your great blog! ;)

    Hang in there.

  2. You have really had a time with your MH.

A BLM employee I met last year told me that Stanley, ID was spectacular, and I was wondering if you'd been there yet. Might be a day trip?

Hang in there. I think there is a reason for everything under the sun, but you need to find a darned good reason for all this!

  3. I'm glad you were able to lift your spirits by taking such amazing and beautiful photos. That dandelion one and the cattails are terrific. Your ability to take an ordinary subject and turn it into something extraordinary is testament to your abilities as a photographer.

Now having said that....Dang it! I'm so sorry you have to stick around the CW "campground" for so many more days. Be brave!

  4. I really like your photos. The milkweed DOES look different. Think of staying at Camping World as "free Camping" maybe that will make your stay there a little easier to take. I also imagine that you can think of much nicer free camping spots :-)

  5. This story gets curiouser and curiouser. I guess it could be worse. You could be stuck in Boise in the middle of the winter!

  6. I am a firm believer that dandelions actually do survive in all 4 seasons. It is just that once you clear the snow off them you destroy the evidence. There is no other plausible explanation for the way they have spread across the country.

  7. I usually check the blogs in the daytime, but since you hadn't posted yet, I had to stop by and check on you before I went to bed.

Hope you get out of there by winter!

  8. Oh Judy,
I think Rick has struck upon about the only thing that could possibly make things worse...

I did enjoy the pictures! I googled the town for you; of course knowing you'd probably already done that at least once! About the best I could come up with to offer is the river greenbelt area. Maybe a walk or two with Emma? Call a radio station and tell them your story ~?~ local interest maybe? It would sure help spread the word about those darn warranty people! That's all I got for ya, friend... just keep on keeping us entertained! That seems to be working out well!!!

    Peace Out!!

  9. I'm sorry to hear that you continue to be stuck at Camping World. At least you can stay in your rig at night--that part could be worse if you had to stay in a hotel every night. Your license plate collage was great--I guess people were there from all over. Keep your spirits up, Judy!

  12. It kind of makes you wonder if it weren't for bad luck if you would have any luck at all. It will all work out in the end. Stiff upper lip and all that stuff. Stay safe.

  13. Oh My Goodness!! 10 MORE Days?!!

Sounds like extended warranty people guff for sure! They always try to go the cheaper route when it's a more serious problem!

How nice of the Camping World people to help you out in such a jam! Emptying the tanks and refilling the fresh water, unheard of before!

We're keeping our fingers crossed that you get out of there before it gets too cold!

  15. Good morning.

Maybe you and Emma could get temporary jobs as Camping World Parking Lot greeters! Woof!

Although I do like the idea of a local news feature.

  18. Not only does that suck, but that SUCKS PONDWATER!! No matter how hard I try, I still can't get tooooo upset with the view of the mountains you have...and from the Camping World parking lot, no less! I suggest dragging out the crock pot and putting in a nice stew or soup recipe...Just the smell of that in the RV would calm me down..that..and a glass of good Merlot.

  19. Yep... song is in my head, but at least it's a good one! :-)

Sorry doesn't even begin to cover it. Can't imagine how bored you must be... Try to enjoy the weather. Cook something yummy. Start a gambling ring in the parking lot... :-P
