A hodge-podge of thoughts and doings

It was a chilly, overcast, stay inside kind of day today.  Not a day for sightseeing.  So, I cranked up the heater.  Since this is day 11 in the Camping World parking lot, my mind took to wandering.  MARGIE’S thought provoking post got my mind to thinking about my fulltime lifestyle.  I certainly think my lifestyle is worth it, but maybe a few changes are in my future.  Most of my five grandkids are getting old enough where I can actually have a conversation with them, so I’m thinking maybe next summer I might spend more time around them so they get to know me better, and I get to know them better.  Lots of planning involved there, and I do love  planning.  :)  I enjoyed not having to work (volunteer) this summer, and I didn’t quite go bankrupt, so we’ll see what happens.
IMG_6147Being inside all day, kind of forced me to accomplish a task I’ve been avoiding.  I bought a printer in July, but hadn’t even unpacked it until this afternoon.  I was dreading setting it up.  As it turned out, things went pretty smoothly, until I tried to print something.  :(  It only printed the first few lines, and then stopped.  I tinkered and tinkered, but to no avail.  Time to use my Google email and “chat” with my oldest son, Daniel, online.  Solving computer problems is his line of work, so in very short order he gave me a suggestion, and it worked!  I’m almost feeling a little geeky about that! (no where near the powers of RICK, but a little more accomplished, anyway.:))  Probably my biggest problem in setting it up was getting the box out of the overhead cabinet I had stored it in.  I finally had to shred the box in order to get it out.  I don’t remember having any difficulties getting it in there, but it sure wouldn’t come out!

Now, I’ll finally be able to print my boarding pass for the cruise in November.  I’m going to tackle that tomorrow, just as soon as I get a mailing address for my luggage tags.  I don’t want them to be sent to SD (my mail service) since my mail is on hold right now.  I’m hoping to have them sent to Anahuac NWR.  I just can’t remember the mailing address there, and it may have changed after all the rebuilding that was going on this year after hurricane Ike.
IMG_6148As I was looking for the printer, I ran across my other traveling companions.  They used to reside on my dashboard, but since Emma took up residence I’ve relocated them to a safer location.  Jiminy Cricket (of “When You Wish Upon a Star” fame) is my favorite, and has been with me since the get go.  The others I’ve accumulated in my travels.
52 On the way to Anahuac 20103In the late afternoon, the clouds finally dissipated, and Emma and I were able to spend some time outside.  I enjoy watching the mass exodus from the parking lot as the store closes.  It reminds me of Sunday afternoons when I’ve been a camp host in several state parks.  Peace reigns after the ‘rats leave the sinking ship’!   :)

Thanks for stopping by….talk to you later,  Judy

  1. Good to see that you are making the most of your forced stay at Camping World. It will not be long now (I hope) and you will be back on the road.

  2. Jiminy Cricket is awesome. We love planning and do it all the time. Then we may scrap the plan and make a new one. That's part of the fun!

Thanks for the shout-out, Judy. Have a good weekend.

  3. I think it's great to spend time with grandchildren while you can. Some of my fondest memories are of times spent at my grandparents' farm in Kentucky, and I've always regretted never knowing my Dad's parents - they died before I was born. I hope my grandchildren will remember me fondly.

  4. Thank you! I have "powers"?? Wow! That sounds almost "awesome"!

Congrats on getting that printer going. I agree too, a lot of times getting this stuff out of the box is the hardest part of all.

  5. Is that a moose I see in the back row? I may be a young whipper-snapper but I'm an old soul. :)

  6. If there is one piece of equipment we have had problems with more than any other it is the printer. I've lost count of how many printers we have had. We rarely use them so I suppose that has always been part of the problem. Ink dying out I guess.

  7. Good news on getting your printer goin, on a whim I brought my 40 dollar Canon cheapo along that I bought for the trailer, it is an all in one copier, scanner & printer. Thank God I did because now I can scan some old family pictures That my sister has, and I needed to print some radio frequencies yesterday and didn't have to use my sisters computer and printer.Sounds like you & Emma are still making the best of it. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna.

  8. Glad you are making the best of your stay at CW hopefully they will get you on the road this week. Congrats on getting your printer setup and going. We have one in our rig but don't use it enough so the ink keeps drying up, guess we need to print something every now and then to keep it going.

    Happy Sunday!

  9. They say that an unexamined life is not worth living. Deciding what is most important to accomplish in life is part of that. Spending time with children and grandchildren is near the top of the list.

I just finished a book that presented the argument that true immortality comes from "telling your story"-and who better to tell it to than your grandchildren.

So many of us do not know that much about our ancestors because their story was simply not told to us.

  10. We love spending time with the Grand kids. They seem to appreciate us more since we aren't around all the time.

I found I had less trouble with printers if I buy the same brand as the computer. Just seems to work better fro me.

Thanks for the great comment you left regarding my brother.

  12. You and I have the same printer (I think?), mine was a hassle getting up and running as well, but with a little tweaking it seems to work now.

    Cheers!

  13. If you read back over your posts since your enforced encampment, you will see all the "to-do" items that you would have put off much longer. The windshield, the printer, and now your rig will be in tip top running order. While aggravating, at least it is all forward progress. Except for repair costs, you are staying there for FREE! Think ZEN.

  14. I've found that HP printer ink dry up very easily. I like those Canon printers that have the print head in the printer instead of on the ink cartridge. On the HP printers, you can try holding a damp paper towel up against the print head.
