Still settling in

I haven’t posted in some time since I don’t think much of what I’ve been doing is very interesting to most people.  I had a little excitement a few days after my golf cart was delivered.  I had taken Emma to the dog park at 6:30 in the morning, and noticed on the way back that the cart was becoming more and more sluggish.  The last hill up to my site took about twenty minutes to accomplish.  Seems I hadn’t paid attention to the amount of charge left in the batteries.  Ugh!  Thought I was going to have to put Emma to pulling me home like a sled dog.  Learned a lesson that day.

When I ordered my new camera lens back in early October, I bought it on Amazon and signed up for Prime.  Never thought it was worth the money for me before, but knew I’d be making some purchases once I got here.  No shipping fees is nice.  This pic shows two of my purchases.  I ordered a stand for my Weber Q, and a picnic table.  I managed to get that Q stand assembled by myself, but knew I’d need help with the picnic table.

Merikay and Craig to the rescue!  I’m not sure they were as happy as I that the table was delivered before their visit to Jojoba was over.  Winking smile

This assembly really needed a couple or three people to make the job go quickly.  It’s nice to have friends nearby when you need them.

It only took about an hour to get the job done.  Now my huge patio doesn’t look quite so bare, and I’ve got a place to attach Emma’s tie out to.  Of course if she gets excited, she can move the table, but thank goodness there aren’t any squirrels in my neck of the woods!

We all inaugurated the table last night as I had Merikay and Craig over for a cookout.  Emma showed her thanks too.

Part of what’s included at each site here is a telephone hookup.  When was the last time you bought a regular telephone and not a cell phone?  I think it’s been close to twenty years for me.  It’s wise to have a phone in case you need to dial 911.  If you do that on your cell phone it goes to Indio, CA, and the response is delayed.  If you use the regular phone, it is handled locally and volunteers in the park come to help and make sure the gate is opened for emergency responders.  You can also call any other site in the park any time you want for free.

I’m planning to get back to more regular blogging since most of the basics of moving in have been taken care of now.  It’s also about time I get out and find some little adventures to enjoy!

Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later,  Judy

  2. WooHoo... you're up and running again! Love the shots of Craig and Merikay getting your table usable. Isn't it great to have such good fiends? Mostly... just good to see you on line again. Happy that you're getting settled ... that's the best!

  4. Ohhh so nice they were able to help you set up your table! And for you to repay them with a cookout! Sounds like we need to visit there sometime too... we have some other friends who own a lot there too.

  5. Just want to say that I'm interested in whatever you are doing or even thinking about so don't just post when something "worthy" happens. Your whole life is worthy. I like the looks of that table. I've wanted to get a portable picnic table for boondocking but we just don't have one spare inch to put it in. Sounds like you are liking your new spot. How's Emma feeling about it?

  11. Showing us what your doing with your new place is exciting for some of us. Looking good now.
Speaking of cell phones, I called a friends of mine today and he didn't answer until he heard my voice. He said it came up as McNeary, AZ I had originally bought my first Straight Talk in Show Low, AZ. so that's the where it showed up. Yes that can be a problem since I live 250mils from there.

  13. If you decide to get a real phone you will really be impressed with the phones. My husband goes through about 2 a year. He can't use it without dragging it off the table. I want one of the old black phone that had some weight. I can't get him a cordless phone because he would never figure out how to use it and it would never get hung up.

  16. We've become believers in Amazon Prime. You can get just about anything delivered in just a couple of days! It sounds like you are settling in nicely. You'll have to remember to keep your ride plugged in so that Emma doesn't have to drag you home!!

  18. We enjoyed being able to help put the table together and to join you the next day for burgers. Although we too want to become members of the Jojoba family, I wonder if we will become lazy stay at homes like wev'e been these last few weeks.

  19. Glad to see you are settling in. I arrived at the Alligator River Bunkhouse, in Nags Head, a few hours ago. I stopped to check out your blog for the ones about Alligator River and Pea Island but see you apparently don't use key words. So would you mind sending me the dates you were here? I figured you would be the ultimate reference to this area. Thanks.

  20. Interesting about the phone. I have always thought I could hear better on a regular phone than a cell phone, but my last experience with one was a constant stream of telemarketers. You can blog every day - I'm interested in how you are settling in and getting used to your new home.

Your spot looks great..and that grill and picnic table make it look more like home..We bought a new Weber gas grill, the small one...Haven't used it yet, but are anxious to get on the road and try it out..We still have our charcoal Smokey Joe, which we love...and also our electric skillet ..Den uses that for cooking breakfast outdoors ..pancakes, eggs, bacon and sausage.."Denny's Grand Slam"...Yummo!!

  26. I'll chime in with the masses. I have been anxious to hear how you are doing as you settle in to your new digs. While you are not yet there permanently we all face it one day and not much is written about the transition. Your footprint looks pretty nice with your new additions with a little space to spread out. I hope you continue to share how the adjustment goes!!

  30. Cool beans to have a picnic table onsite, and look at you, still in shorts! Up here in NorCal, we're in sweatshirts and jeans already! Well, it is almost December. Sounds like everything is A-OK!.

  31. I'vr have been reading your blog for several years and really enjoy. I not a avid commenter but I did want to mention that depeleting the charge on your golf car batteries below 50% does serious damage to the cells and greatly reduces the expected or rated life span. For the most part keep the car on the charger unless you are not using for an extended period. Be sure you check the fluid level in the batteries at least monthly.

Joba Hills appears to be a very beautiful rv resort in which to spend your non-travel time.
