My new ride was delivered today

Well, I’ve been at Jojoba just about a week now, and am pretty well settled in.  Lots of mundane stuff to take care of like having the closing on the lot.  More paper work.  Yesterday I met with the Welcome Wagon Lady from the park, and got a reference booklet that covers just about any question a person may have about how to live here.  Being in a park like this is really a major adjustment in my life, and I’m still trying to figure out how/where I’ll fit in.

With my back issues, I knew I would have a major purchase in my near future to help me get around up and down the hills here.  Today my new ride was delivered.

Never thought I’d own one of these things… they’re for old farts.  Well, I guess I’ve joined the club.  Embarrassed smile  It’s a used Club Car with new upholstery and batteries.  I sure couldn’t afford a new one.

I added the very old towel to the seat so you know who doesn’t get the new upholstery all dirty.  Emma is now transported in style to the dog park several times a day.  It’s on the other side of the park.  Today was her first ever ride in a cart, and she did very well.  Only tried to jump out once!

The dog park is located on the side of a hill, and I park down behind that tree on the left by the gate.  Emma, of course, finds the absolute furthest spot from the table and chairs to do her business.  Why is that?  So, I get my exercise marching up and down the hill.  The socialization time she’s gotten with some of the other bigger dogs in the park is good for her.  We tend to avoid the small ankle biter types.  They don’t seem to appreciate Emma’s enthusiasm.  If there are several small dogs around, I take her to the other dog run on the edge of the park.  It’s not as popular.

While I’ve been busy getting ‘indoctrinated’, Merikay and Craig have been visiting here also.  They had me over for a cookout the other night that was very tasty.  I’m hoping to reciprocate before they leave in a couple of weeks.  I was also planning to go to the water exercise class with Merikay tomorrow morning, but we’re having a bit of a cold snap here so I’m thinking of chickening out…

Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later,  Judy

  3. I can just picture you two zipping around in the cart. We have a couple here in our park that take their pup outside the park in their cart. Sometimes I really envy them.

  4. I think you will enjoy your golf cart. We use one here at Safari Park and it's so nice to be able to leave our car parked and take the electric golf cart to the lodge, office, to visit friends, and potlucks, etc.

  6. Knew you'd get a golf cart! A couple people we know there said they weren't going to buy one and they weren't there very long before they did. When in Rome!

  7. Glad to hear you are getting settled. Hope you don't get bored. You can't be too much of an old fart. I'm visiting my friend, Hulin who is turning 91 around Christmas and how had a hip replacement last May. We've gone on a short paddle and today we did and 8.5 bike ride. That's a REAL old fart.

  8. Too bad you don't have the Puny Pipsqueak around. She loves Emma. Glad you got your new toy. Glad you are settling in. Enjoy.

  9. Fancy new wheels! No grass there at all...not sure I would like that. Are there fleas too? Hope not:(

  10. Too cool! Just don't get any speeding tickets as you roar around the campground. ;c)

  11. Hmmm, joined the old farts club? You should jazz that thing up a bit .. add flames or colorful flags, paint it candy-apple red, upholster the seats in leopard print, or maybe all of the above? :- ) What the heck, it's nice to be able to get around.

  13. Glad you're getting settled. I'm sure it's kind of strange being in one spot for a long enough period to buy a golf cart! :) I think it's smart to buy it used, the value should hold now and if you have to sell it you should be able to get your money back. Glad Emma gets to meet some other dogs. And...a cold snap? We're having record heat here in Michigan. Today will be day 3 of temps over 70 and sunshine. We are soooooo happy! I'm sure we'll pay for this later in the winter, but it feels good now!

  14. You have the golf cart thing all wrong Judy. They are not just for old farts that can't walk. They are for happy hour.

Al and I get into our golf cart each night (when in GA) grab our cocktails and ride the country roads in search of wildlife while having happy hour! Of course in Georgia, we're one of the few actually with alcohol, but no one seems to care. :)

It's also nice before sunrise to take your coffee and buzz around with camera in hand. I think you'll love it. Most dogs seem to really enjoy riding.

  15. We too love our golf cart--we scoot around and look for landscaping ideas, they are quiet which we like too!

  16. Glad to see you could find a used cart. I imagine all of this is a real adjustment but in time you will figure it all out.

  17. Most all us "old farts" have a golf cart. We use ours much like Karen and Al. Nice to ride up the road to neighbors, or even to get to the deer blind. Really like the electric, rather than the gas.

  18. I' m hoping we have some nice weather so you can take me (us) for a ride. You know I want to get on the list for a spot, and I really need to drive around with a map in hand and mark off the spots we would, or would not want to live on. We still have a lot of miles to travel, but I would love to have a place here to come back to.

  19. Water aerobics is great. It is actually one of my favorite things about the condo. It has really helped my back.

  20. We spend our winters in a very lovely neighborhood in Tucson, and almost everyone has a Geezer Cart. I don't play golf, hence the name. Mr Wonderful was VERY reluctant to make the purchase, but we finally found one that was in very nice shape and had been serviced and reconditioned and was a price we could afford. Reluctantly, he made the purchase ... just to [please me. LESS THAN 24 HRS later, he went back to the seller for a different cart that would go FASTER .... and I swear he is off in the thing EVERY day. So much for not wanting to look like a geezer. My feeling is that it is just another tool ... and sometimes you just need the right tool!! As for "geezers" ... what I see of the geezers here is that most of them can run me into the ground!!

  21. love your new (to you) ride. . .way to go!

  22. If the pool is heated just pull some sweats over your swimsuit and go anyway.

  23. Like the new wheels, Emma will get more used to it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I like your new wheels Judy! You and Emma will adjust quickly.

  25. It has to be a bit of adjustment to be in a semi permanent spot ...I cannot imagine that. Your new wheels look great and I just bet you and Emma will enjoy them...

  26. Nice ride. If I recall the dog park is very big. Good for exercising Emma off leash. Hope you enjoy the new life style.

  27. Oh, forgot to say that here in Tucson, it is a bit cooler that in your location ... but I use the heated pool all winter!..Most of the geezers just wear our bathrobes to the pool (or sweat suits) and hustle into the warm water. Some early mornings there is steam coming off of the water into the cool air, and it feels like swimming in a huge bathtub. I LOVE it and it helped me manage my new knees when I had the old ones replaced. If you have the luxury of a hot tub, same routine apples. Just the best thing ever for achy joints!! You will learn the routine and embrace the Geezer Shuffle in and out of the therapeutic waters in short order!!

  28. When I camp hosted at Lassen I just loved tooling around in the golf cart. The 2nd time I was there, they had gotten a new one but I preferred the older model. After all, I'm an older model myself! You're still a youngster so you probably have a spiffier one.

  29. . Are you a new lessor at Jojoba? We stayed there a couple weeks a year ago and enjoyed it. In fact we plan to roll in again in a few weeks and with luck spend a month. That cart will be very helpful in that park with all the hills!!

  30. Glad you are all settled in and ready to enjoy a little fun and relaxation. I like your new ride. We don't blame you a bit for wanting to tackle those hills on wheels.

  31. Love the "new" ride. Angel rode with me in the cart that I used while working at JD Grant Co Park for the last two summers. She has her own seat belt and loved going with me. She would sit happily in the cart when I was cleaning campsites and restrooms.

  32. That should help you tremendously --you should call it "Emma's New Ride" She will be the most popular dog in the neighborhood!! Congrats

  33. Why am I just now finding your blog, after 10 years writing Phannie and Mae? Thankfully, I saw your link in Merikay's blog. Nice job, Judy!

  34. What a kick this post is. Old fart, indeed. NEVER! If we had a way to transport a cart we would too. We found out to benefits of one when at Fort Wilderness in Disney this summer. Got caught in heavy rains blocks from the campsite. Rented one the next day. Emma does know how to keep you active....good dog.

I have read both your and Merikay's blog for a few years now.
Would love to meet the three of you and our Australian Shepard Cabby would love to meet Emma.
Perhaps we could all get together for a cocktail or something.

  36. Also would love to know where you found your new wheels.

  37. Somehow I missed this when you first posted... so I'm catching up. I wish I had a cart instead of a Gator when in Maine... you'll love how quiet they run... you can really get close to take photos before the critters know you're there. Kinda like being in an canoe instead of a motorboat ;-)
