For more than eight years, I’ve used Alternative Resources out of Sioux Falls, SD, as my mailing service and permanent residential address. Recently, the company changed hands and the new owner wants to make improvements. First off, they changed the name to Dakota Post, and you had to sign up again to verify your email. Okay, I can deal with that.
Found a leopard frog, but didn’t find any purple loosestrife on Wednesday.
Then today, an email came with a list of changes that will be coming in the near future. Several of them, I like very much. Mail forwarding rates will be going down. (I can’t think of much of anything that has gone down in price in the last eight years.) New name and website (yadda yadda). Soon I’ll be able to visually see the front of each piece of mail online to determine if I want it sent immediately. (I really like this option.)
Showy goldenrod with a bug.
Dakota Post saved the kicker for last. They are moving to a new location in Sioux Falls, which means the address etched into my memory is going to change. Uf-dah! I’m not crazy about that development. I’ll have to start making a list of every address I have to change… bank, checks, credit cards, medical, driver’s license, etc., etc., etc. What a pain in the kiester! (spell check doesn’t like the word kiester, but I think you know what I mean.) I really don’t want to move my address, but at least they’ve given plenty of time to do it.

While Bridget and I were out looking for loosestrife this week in the middle of nowhere, surprisingly my phone rang. The call was from a refuge in Colorado that I had expressed an interest in about a month ago.
Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge is located in a glacial valley surrounded by three mountain ranges in northern Colorado. Wouldn’t this be nice if it was the view out my front window next summer?
I got these pictures off of their website, but couldn’t figure out how to enlarge the moose shot. Anyway, we chatted a couple of times, and it looks like that’s where I’ll be heading for three months or so in 2015. I’m pretty pumped about this new journey. Can’t wait to see some moose. I’m just hoping I’ll be able to breathe at 8000’ elevation.
THE END!!
Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later, Judy
Oh we will definitly want to visit you in Co. It is on our list for 2015. ))
ReplyDeleteI could deal with a view like that from my front window. Colorado at 8,000' would be a REAL change from tick and mosquito infested MN. Prob everyone who comments will say, "See ya there in 2015!"
ReplyDeleteI can't even begin to make a list of everybody I would need to notify of an address change. The thought is overwhelming. Jim would have trouble at 8,000 feet but I bet it is going to be so beautiful there.
ReplyDeleteI guess you would have to change your address now if even if you decided to leave the company, so at least you can chose based on the best service you can find. We stayed in Colorado at a campground for two weeks that was just over 9K. Anneke has some issues with the lack of O2 sometimes. But is sure is a beautiful part of the country.
ReplyDeleteWe got the same email today and had the same reaction!! Not looking forward AT ALL to changing all of our addresses.
ReplyDeleteNot looking forward to the address change either. Hope there's some good eats out that way when I stop by next summer.
ReplyDeleteoh wow. . .A Glacial Valley in Colorado. . .what a wonderful place that will be. . .
ReplyDeleteChanging the mailing address. . .nope, not near as much fun. . .ugh!
The pics of the butterflies are spectacular. . .
The only good thing about your "move" is that you won't need to pack any boxes or have any garage sales!
ReplyDeleteYou are going to enjoy Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge! We have been to Walden and surrounding areas any times, but not recently. We will have to come see you.
ReplyDeleteThe changing of all that stuff IS a pain. but like Carol said at least no packing boxes.
ReplyDeleteColorado sounds wonderful
Wow--Colorado will be a change for you!
ReplyDeleteI love the flexibility of your life!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the process of changing my address to California and it has its problems--and I've only just begun. I was debating switching the driverr's licence before going to NY, but think I'll wait until October and do the car at the same time. It will be a long time before I figure out all the change of address notes I will need to send out.
ReplyDeleteI think you are so lucky to have the opportunity to work in Colorado next year. Have you ever worked anywhere in that state? Should be fun and new.
Arapahoe looks gorgeous--they're very fortunate you've agreed to come. With all of your knowledge, expertise & wisdom, Judi, you're valuable! Love that frog! Bummer with the address change. I wonder if you'll be able to make most of them online? Take good care...
ReplyDeleteWe may switch to FL since we now have a "winter home" down there. That's probably where we'll end up sometime anyway. Don't really want to have to switch our address twice.
ReplyDeleteJim and Linda
Slowing down and staying hydrated will be essential to handling the altitude ... with views like that to enjoy, taking the days easy shouldn't be a problem.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, what a bummer on the address change. It kept me up last night just thinking about it, not to mention the five hundred or so business cards with the old address on it that I've given out over the last three years.
ReplyDeleteI'm starting to think maybe I should just change mail forwarders if I have to go thru the trouble of changing my address anyway.
I just love Colorful Colorado! You lucky girl!
ReplyDeleteAn opportunity to see moose, you lucky lady. Can't wait to see your awesome pictures from there too.
ReplyDeleteJan
How wonderful to be in a totally different climate and area next year...I think you will do just fine at the elevation..and you will definitely see Moose, and a bear or two...I envy you that trip. I DON'T envy you having to change your mailing address ...that is a royal pain in the buttinski...But all the other stuff for the mail sounds vastly improved.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great place to spend the summer!
ReplyDeleteI hate changing addresses. It will be interesting to see what we have to do with our driver's licenses. We just renewed, and I do NOT want to have to go back to South Dakota for any reason. 200 business cards are now going out in the trash.
ReplyDeleteWell, cool. Nice about Colorado for you, but I would have much more liked the Newberry Crater idea. Congrats. What a pain to have to change your address and you haven't even really moved...at least not technically...in reality you are moving all the time!
ReplyDeleteYAY! That's excellent news! About CO, I mean - not having to memorize a new address. Well, at least you don't have to memorize new cable TV stations with your 'move'.
ReplyDeleteThat change will affect lots of people. Not us, we are with My Home Address in Emery. But, might have to change banks. Daughter who bought out house in NJ accepted a new job and will be moving. We have her on our bank account in case in emergency and bank is 2 miles from her home. Local bank. So have to notify State of NJ Lens pension direct deposit, and Social Security for our deposits. Plus some automatic bill payments. Yea, glad we don;t have Alternative also - double the trouble.
ReplyDeleteGood news about Colorado! The scenery should be fantastic! I enjoyed your photos...good to see the leopard Frog their numbers have been down. It used to be we could catch them all over:)
ReplyDeleteGood news about Colorado. As for address change - at least you will be able to do most of them online without having to send out letters in envelopes.
ReplyDeleteWe've thought of Colorado for the cooler temps for the entire summer at the higher elevations. We'll follow your adventures next summer in earnest.
