An almost sleepless night?

What’s up with that?  I generally don’t have any problems falling asleep at night, but last night was awful.  I’ve been pretty restless at night the last week or so, and couldn’t figure out the reason.  The night before an initial departure day is always a hard one for me, but I’m not leaving for another 12 days or so.

Tonight’s pictures are a few of the blooms on the refuge right now.

By this morning, I think I had it figured out.  About a week and a half ago, I sent an email to my favorite RV repair place about having an automatic satellite DISH installed.  I expected to hear from them very promptly, but that wasn’t the case.  So, after several days I gave them a call, and talked to the owner’s wife, Helen.  She runs the office and takes care of all the bookwork for Thibodeaux’s.  I also learned that the email I had sent went to someone who doesn’t work there any longer so it wasn’t read.

Helen said she would email me an estimate.  After a couple of days, I also sent an email to the address listed on the business card I had, and added when I could be there and some general maintenance work that I would like done on the rig.

By last night, I still hadn’t heard a peep from them, so I guess I began stewing about it.  You see, I’m a rather planful (?) person, and I can’t work on my route to Minnesota until I know if I have to travel east before I travel north or not.  It was putting a crimp in my style of figuring out possible stopping places on my journey.  Of course, my mind was conjuring up all kinds of reasons why they hadn’t responded.  I’ll let your imagination take you to all those places.  Thinking smile

I had an early scheduled refuge safety meeting this morning after I dragged myself out of bed.  The subject of that meeting was one of the more interesting monthly safety meetings.  It dealt with bugs.  Specifically, what to do if you encounter or get bitten by bees, wasps, scorpions, and spiders now that the warmer weather is coming.  South Texas does have some of those awful African killer bees.  Kind of just made me glad I was heading to Minnesota where I’ll only worry about ticks, mosquitoes and deer flies.  Eye rolling smile  No poisonous snakes or scorpions up there either.

This afternoon put my mind at ease.  I gave Thibodaux's a call once again.  Helen apologized profusely for ‘dropping the ball’ after our conversation last week.  I then asked if she’d received the second email I had sent her, and found out that recently that email account had been hacked so the address had changed.  Uf dah!   I’m sure glad I called.  I had the estimate within minutes, and the appointment is all set up.  I’ll move into the full hookup spot they have for a few days, and then I’ll be on my way.  I think I’ll sleep well tonight…

Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later,  Judy

  1. When I"m anxious to get planning it is hard to wait for someone to "get back to me". Sounds like the company needs to get an IT person to take care of some of these problems for them or they may lose good business like yours from people who aren't as persistent. Glad it's all set. Mosquitoes, ticks and deer flies huh. YUCK!

  4. I'm the same way....In fact, I went to my GP Doc today and he put me on BP meds..We have had one Hell of a year...and our niece was diagnosed with stage 4 Lung Cancer this last January...We heard of it then...she insisted there was nothing we could do and she was undergoing Chemo and that there was no reason for us to come home...That really put a damper on the trip..but we are here now....as you say...uf dah!!

  5. Looks like some very pretty Primroses and a lovely Gaillardia or Blanket Flower! Nope no skeeters yet, but the ticks are about to come out tomorrow when it is near 70 degrees. We go from one extreme to the next.
Good thing you called and found why you weren't hearing from them. I hope all goes well with the installation. :)

  6. It's frustrating when your plans depend upon someone else.

  7. Glad you followed through and gave them a call... I tend to wait thinking "I don't want to bother them".... But now it sounds like you have it all under control and are ready to roll..... here's wishing that it all works out for you.....

  8. I can't understand businesses (and there are a LOT of them) who haven't figured out the importance of prompt email communication. Drives me crazy!

  10. Sorry for your sleepless night, Judy. I'm done for if my mind starts racing when I'm trying to go to sleep. I'm glad it was inconvenience, nothing serious that kept you awake. I pretend to be a "planner" with all my books and maps, but in the end I usually don't come up with a plan--I wander. A TBI during surgery years ago inhibits my abilities in certain areas--at first I couldn't tell left from right (thank goodness that came back).

When I went west the one place I HAD to plan just turned me upside down and I was in a panic trying to get suggestions from one of the RV forums. That kept me awake many a night--the rest of the trip I had no problem with. Thank goodness for Judy from "Cool RVers" came to my rescue and planned every inch of the way for me from visiting my brother to meeting my daughter and driving back up the coast to meet my son and granddaughters. I just couldn't do it and without knowing me from a hole in the wall, she stepped in and sent me an itinerary right down to where to stay. I've never forgotten her for her kindness.

I hope the delay and angst makes your dish even more enjoyable. ;)

  11. It seems like those lists of things "to do" add up as you are getting ready to leave. Hopefully your RV repair place will come through for you and knock everything out. Between Hitch Itch and ToDo lists, your mind gets busy and I guess you lose a night's sleep. Hopefully just the one!!

  12. I hope you get some rest now that you have everything scheduled. I'm starting to set up some appointments for maintenance and planning my route, also. I leave in about a month for a summer job in Cody, WY.

  15. Yes, indecision and things left up in the air can lead to a restless night... glad it was something so easy, they have been good to/for you over the years in getting things sorted out with the rv...... safe travels....

  16. I'm also planful when we travel. Been working on our trip north for a couple of weeks now and just today I completely changed directions. Sure hope that now you know which way you're going, you'll be able to sleep tonight. Makes you wonder how some businesses stay in business. Thank goodness they do such good work.

  17. I enjoyed the flowers in your post tonight.
Also so glad you made the call. Sometimes I think life was much easier without the internet. I like a phone call or a face to face.

  18. Enjoyed the flowers! Might not be such a big deal getting on ground level to snap the shutter, so to speak, but how in the world do you manage to get up again??

(I think we're all planful at times. We need to be. Otherwise, we'd be walking zombies from sleepless nights!)

  19. No poisonous snakes? Interesting. Hope things go well getting the dish installed.

  20. Hope you're sleeping at night now. Loved the flowers!

  21. Glad you did all the follow ups. Been there, done that with a business changing its email address. I know it isn't any fun for them. I am sure they lost some potential customers. Now you can spend the day routing your path to MN.

  22. Sure glad you have that all figured out! Michael is the stew-er in our family, I'm not a worry wart.

  23. Another company with "great" customer service, just like that mattress company we recently dealt with. We didn't sleep too well either, awaiting the right mattress.

Hope you're installation goes much better, it sounds like a great system. We love our automatic dome, it works well as long as we're not under any trees. We look for campsites that are not heavily tree covered just for that reason. Don't want to miss the Tonight Show! ;c)

  24. Glad you were able to work it out with Thibodaux I've never been fond of having to encourage someone to take my money.

  25. Such an interesting post...it brought back so many memories, and reading all the comments shows me how much we all have these moments! Enjoy your poisonous snake free summer!

  26. The satellite dome will be a real benefit I'm sure. I wish I had as much trouble spending my money as you do yours!

  27. Ah yes.... anticipation jitters! Know that story too well.

Wishing you safe travels making your way Northward.

  29. The thing with emails is that you'll never know if it has been received by the other party unless they reply to it. In this case, an old fashioned phone call is better, as you can immediately know that they got the message. This is what happened in your case, but of course emails are still useful for detailed descriptions that would have been lost in a phone conversation. With your anxiety out of the way, let's see if the repair shop can install that satellite dish!
