It’s that time of the year, ladies.

I’ve pretty much spent the last four or five months ensconced in blue jeans.  Today was warm enough that I felt the need to put on shorts this afternoon.  That’s when I noticed the HLS once again.  Every spring for the last several years, I’ve been stricken with the Hairy Leg Syndrome!  It seems I don’t often pick locations for the winter where I’m wearing shorts everyday, so why bother?

I have to admit that I did shave my legs before going into surgery in January.  Didn’t want to gross out the surgeon, don’t-cha know.  Confused smile

(Pics tonight are from my roving yesterday.)

I spent most of the day today just relaxing and recuperating from my four days of work.  I did make a trip into Kingsland for groceries which is about 80 miles round trip.

Then as Emma and I were sitting outside this evening, I finally decided to do something about the toad.  With all the dust and pine pollen from the last few months it was really disgustingly dirty.  At our volunteer meeting on Thursday, I found out where the vehicle washing station is on the refuge.  We can use it for our vehicles on off hours, so since it was warm out and I’ve improved enough to manage it, I zipped over there to clean it up.  Glad I had shorts and old shoes on, as I ended up about as wet as the car.

Tomorrow is laundry day, and my friend Jack arrives in the afternoon.  That will certainly add a little excitement to the day.

Not much else is new here from the swamp.  Guess I’d better juice up the battery on the shaver… it’s that time of the year again.

Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later,  Judy

  1. I know what you're saying. However, here gate guarding we are not permitted to wear shorts so looks like I have some time. Also, no use in washing either truck or rig here. Dust, dust, dust. Can't keep the inside clean either.

You are one busy bee there.

  2. When my doctor called and told me to go straight to the emergency room last year, I called my daughter and asked her to pick me up. I told her I was going to jump in the shower and shave my legs, but she should just come on it the house. She said she would take a quick shower also. My son-in-law took all this in and said to her, "You women, your mom is having a medical emergency and you both have to take a shower first." So I'm glad you didn't go in for surgery with hairy legs!

  4. It was 90 here today and I thought about wearing shorts, but didn't feel like shaving. LOL

  5. I used to be quite hairy legged, but since I turned 60, hardly any hair. One of the benefits, I guess.

  6. This sure made me laugh! I probably need a scythe for my HSL. We have been camped at Crooked River State Park near St Marys and went to your Refuge today for a quick tour. I had read your blog this am and knew it was your day off, so sorry to miss an opportunity to meet you. We enjoyed seeing in person a little of the place you have been telling all of us about. I was especially impressed with the visitor center. We saw several alligators and turtles on Swamp Drive but not many birds on our quick visit. We then spent a couple of hours in Folkston watching trains with the other train fans. Lots of people there taking photos for their collections. We are off tomorrow for Chapel Hill for a couple of weeks to visit with our newest granddaughter (and her mom and dad) before heading back to Indiana. Hope to actually meet you somewhere, sometime down the road. Dione

  7. Well, one benefit about spending the winter in Chicago-- HLS may be postponed even longer (we still had snow flurries here today!). Have a fun time with Jack. I'm sure he'll come up with some interesting pose for you to photograph to amuse us readers!

  9. I'm not sure I will ever be in shorts in IN. this year. Where is Spring??? I thought after my hysterectomy I wouldn't have to shave as often, nope just as much :(

  10. Thank goodness! Time to get rid of those hairy legs... what would Jack think if he saw you in shorts, with hairs long to braid on your legs?!! :)

  11. Enjoyed the colorful blossoms in your photos. I did put on shorts for just a couple of hours yesterday while I was working - but only in the house. Not too worried about HLS just yet. Have fun with Jack tomorrow.

  13. HLS? winter is worse for this malady that is for sure!...only time to shave in the winter is when the pant legs get too tight?

  14. I am grateful that you spared us from a pic of HLS! ;-) I had to crank on the generator for awhile today to run the a/c. It got hot in here! Although you've had that turtle in your header for awhile, I gotta say, it totally cracks me up each time I see it! All those toes reaching for the sun - that's got to be an award winning photo!

  15. Here I thought you were talking about income tax returns... shows what's topmost on my mind when we get back to the States in a couple of weeks ;-) I wish a razor would take care of that problem!

  16. I'm clearly out of step here. Haven't bothered to shave my legs in years. Guess I took that 'I will wear purple stuff' seriously.

  17. You'd be good for probably another 3 weeks up here not having to address the HLS issue. Hope you and Jack have a great time!

  18. I think HLS is one reason he made old people have bad eye sight. That way, we can't see how hairy our legs are....or our wrinkles. I find, I have gotten very lax on shaving over the years. When I was younger it was a daily thing, now it's more like weekly.

By the way, did you ever get those two books I sent you?

  19. I'm wondering if I will EVER get shorts on this year....I sure enjoyed them in Florida, though...I'm not a hairy sasquatch like Dennis..He is breeding fruit flies in his leg hairs...
