My oldest, Daniel, and his dog, Buddy.
Forty years ago today, I welcomed my first bundle of joy into this world. It was a struggle getting him birthed for a tax deduction as 1972 drew to a close, but I got it done. At that time, they kept new mothers and their babies in the hospital for several days, and I even had a dinner with Champagne on New Year’s Eve that year.
Where in the world does the time go? I can’t believe that I have a child that is 40 years old. Seems that it confirms that I really am an old fart. How did that happen?? I need a few minutes to recuperate from that realization…
Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later, Judy
He's a real cutie, too! My oldest is 44. Amazing isn't it, when we look so gosh darn great!
ReplyDeleteIf it makes you feel any better, there are plenty of us out here that can identify and commiserate with you :) Mine are 38 and 36 and I have no idea how that happened!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd a fine looking fella he is too! My daughter is 32 and that's about how old I feel. I try not to look in the mirror.
ReplyDeleteNow that is a fine looking child. But my third one is the same age as he is. So I will be looking for a nice rocker soon and shawl.
ReplyDeleteYep, my oldest is 40 also. I will keep on thinking that I am 40! Now that I am out and about again I do feel better and stronger. (My leg is getting stronger!!) YOU will too!!
ReplyDeleteTime stops for no one. Pass along a big Happy Birthday to your son.
ReplyDeleteMy son is only 26 so I must really be a young'un. (Yeah right) Not when you start at an "older" age. But this will make you feel better - Jim's oldest is going to be 50 in June. So you aren't as old a fart as he is.
ReplyDeleteMy oldest is also Daniel... he turned 50 years old this year. I feel very much like you do.. where in the heck did the time go???? Give Daniel best wishes and happy thoughts on his birthday. If he's like my Daniel, he'll probably call you and thank you for having him all those years ago. Hey... hope you set a new record and maybe even see a rare bird on your CBC tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteGood thing you had him when you were age 5! ;c)
ReplyDeleteAnd a handsome fella he is! Happy Birthday, Daniel.

love it... my son is expecting a little baby boy any day now. They are going to name him Charlie. They can't decide on a middle name. My Dad's middle name was Daniel. I suggested Daniel... no, Mom, Charlie Daniels? hahaaa... well? you're putting the s on! but he knows kids and they'd do that... I like Charlie Daniels... good fiddler...
ReplyDeleteoh, and your son and is dog are beautiful ;)
DeleteWow, I just realized that my son will turn 35 next March. As mentioned above, you are in good company!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great lookin' kiddo you have! Way to go. . .

The last time I visited my Mom she told me, "When your kids start getting gray hair, you are not a spring chick anymore."
ReplyDeleteHappens to the best of us! :)
Wishing you the very best for a successful surgery and quick recovery. Happy new year!
Guess I'm an old fart too!! I have a daughter who's 41 and a son who's 37. The son definitely has gray in his beard and a shiny dome on top. Sometimes I don't feel a day over 30 and others it's closer to 80. Such is life, I guess.
ReplyDeleteFine looking young man Judy. Sure wish I knew where the time has gone, not having that much FUN? Our daughter will turn 49 soon. Best wishes for a successful surgery & speedy recovery. Have a great day tomorrow. Hope you count lots of birds! Tom & Lynn
ReplyDeleteWell, Happy Birth Day to you! Your son is adorable - I see the resemblance.
ReplyDeleteMine are approaching 40 also and I find it equally hard to believe...
ReplyDeleteI know a young lady of 87 that just a few years ago was still taking her mother out to lunch. So you may have quite a bit of time to go:)
ReplyDeleteAwww -- it's just a number. Anyone with your amount of energy and spirit is definitely not an old fart. Happy birthday to Daniel!
ReplyDeleteNot so much of the old fart. I have reversed and am now 37 although my children range from 37 to 48 and the men have grey beards. Me .... not a speck of grey just pretty colours.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you as you count down to Monday. Oops! perhaps I wasn't meant to remind you in the middle of happy birthday memories.
Blessings
Ours is 27 and even that makes me feel old !!..congrats on raising a fine man!!!
ReplyDeleteI Know!!! Brian is 42!!! What??? how did that happen? I must have been 10 when he was born!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how fast time slips by us.

Nice looking son you have! My oldest will be 50 this March, my youngest just turned 29, and there are 4 more in between! What can I say.... I started young and kept on going :) Our kids are our kids forever!
ReplyDeleteI think we're working up to: Geezerhood. Oh well, beats the alternative!
ReplyDeleteNice memories. My son is 40 too. Just ignore the mirrors. Once you get that knee fixed up, you are going to feel like a kid again.
ReplyDeleteOur oldest turned 30 this year...those milestone birthdays are hard on us parents! ;)
ReplyDeleteMy 12-year-old granddaughters are visiting this week. I notice they are growing hips and little buds on their chests. I could be a great grandma in just a few years. IMPOSSIBLE!
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling - my oldest is 41, and the youngest is 35. I can go back in time though just watching their kids.
