A record breaking drive

(This post should have published on Sunday evening.)

I headed out for Defeated Creek COE campground today in the early afternoon.  It was a rather slow but smooth ride there.

The pull through site is not exactly level, but there’s lots of room and as soon as I put the DISH on the pedestal, I had both satellites honed in without even having to make an adjustment.  That’s a first for me!

It’s not a waterfront site, but this is my view from my rocker until someone moves into the site on the left of the picture.  With the Old Farts Pass, it’s another spot for $9/night for 50 amps and water.  I moved here hoping to improve my internet coverage.  Sorry to say, it’s still on roaming and Sprint has totally cut me off from roaming.

I called my son, Daniel, tonight since the air card account is in his name to tell him I was fed up with being denied access.  I was unable to publish last night’s post, and had no access to internet at all today because Sprint wouldn’t allow the roaming.  The account I have is for unlimited roaming, but Sprint will not honor it.

The result of this hassle is that the air card account has been cancelled, and I will travel by car to Lebanon, TN, tomorrow to sign up with Verizon.  Sprint can go suck an egg as far as I’m concerned.  I’ve been a loyal customer for over six years, and they didn’t give a hoot about that.  I’m not sure Verizon will be much better, but the last two places I was in roaming with Sprint, Verizon had a good signal.

Emma has settled right in and pulled out a log from the fire ring to gnaw on.  She doesn’t eat the wood, but chews it and spits it out.  It was funny to watch her lugging that big thing around.

As for a record breaking drive, this is the shortest distance I’ve ever traveled from one campsite to another.  It was only a total of 11.1 miles today.  If any of you have made a shorter move, I’d enjoy hearing about it. (If I ever get to post this. Disappointed smile)

Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later,  Judy

  1. Well I'll be moving about 1 mile down the road in July. (I'm working Vegas for the summer and am doing a bit of park-hopping).

  3. Well, phooey! Somebody beat us out.. We moved four or five miles in Spring TX from one park to another. We have had great luck with the Verizon air card coverage. When we first got it, sometimes it would kick us off the internet, but we would just hop back on by rebooting it. Good luck with it. I'll bet it will be better with Verizon! Watch the comments come in on that one! :-)

  4. Have been very happy with Verizon. ..and now with the Droid phones. . .we just purchased the PDA NET app, and tether the phone to the computer for our internet service. . .cancelled the air card altogether.

Internet service has been slow here in the mountains. . .but still doable with our Wilson Booster. . .

    Wishing you good luck,

We have had excellent service with Verizon for the last 6 years or so. Hope you have the same. We did a little park hopping in Mesa one year and moved about a mile or so every two weeks (Passport America) Enjoying your visits at the various COE parks in that area. Have made comments in our COE book for future use!

  6. I have a feeling Sprint is going to regret what they are doing to their customers - when they lose all of them. I checked my records, I have been with Sprint since 1999 - but they don't care about that.

  7. There is a Verizon associates (Cell Plus) store on Main Street in Carthage. Next door to the Walton Hotel. I live across the river in South Carthage, and if you need anything, I'll be here all this week...Lisa

  8. There aren't any internet heroes, but Verizon has given us good coverage here in the West.

  9. We moved 1.4 miles to a different campground just last week, a new record for us. We researched it and Verizon gives the best coverage across the country which is why most fulltimers use it.

  10. Your site looks huge! We really like the idea of a picnic table at the site. That is one reason we like staying at COE parks.
We have had Verizon the entire time we have traveled (3 Yrs.) and have ALWAYS had internet and phone usage. Not once have we not been able to call or go on the Internet. Maybe twice we had slow connections. Watch out about getting 4G. 4G isn't everywhere in the US yet.

  11. We have verizon and it has not been "everywhere" but it is more likely to have coverage than anyone else I think. Although AT&T has Texas and some parts of the west. But boy Verizon's bills can get steep IMO.

  12. At least you have a beautiful view today. Maybe no one will claim that waterfront site.

  13. Hopefully nobody moves in. We use Verizon, some days good, some days not so good. Oh well.

  15. We have never had any problems with our Verizon air card, never a roaming charge. We perviously had Sprint on just our cell phones and found them to be awful and rarely honest. Hope your Verizon goes as well as ours has. We go back and forth between two parks when we are in Iowa but it is still about 15 miles.

  16. We have AT&T...and our worst connection is right here at home...You go, Judy..kick Sprint to the curb...They do suck....Love your spot...God, I miss my Hiker...Now I find myself living vicariously through the RV blogs...I have no life, right??

  17. We have had Verizon since 08 and most of the time have not had a prob. HOWEVER, here in the Smokey Mtns in Cherokee, internet service is often slow, but at least I can hook-up most of the time, but phone service is almost non-existent, constantly going in and out of service. However, we can text most of the time. Be safe out there!

  18. I've been very satisfied with Verizon's coverage, and have always found their customer service to be excellent, knock on wood!

  19. Satisfied with Verizon coverage but cycles off too much and sometimes slow

  20. We have Verizon - through millenicom. www.millenicom.com/
We get 20GB for $59.95 a month. In a year we have never exceeded the limit even with a bit of streaming video and our bill is always $59.95.

  21. Yup.. we had unlimited from Sprint a few years ago, and they converted all their contracts over to 5GB. no matter what I said or how long I was a customer, didn't matter. And their roaming was only allowed at 28mg a month. Heck, I use that up in ONE day. So bye bye Sprint! Verizon all the way now.
