Part 2

_MG_8682_thumb[1]

I met her son, Seth, who plays a mean bass fiddle!

_MG_8699_thumbThen she rounded up almost all of the rest of the group (the fiddler had to make a dash to the boy’s room before going on stage) and I got my own private Blue Grass concert! When these guys heard I had to leave before dark, they started jamming for a one person audience. I can’t tell you how thrilled I was. I just love listening to all the different instruments, their voices, and I couldn’t keep my foot from tapping! Am I one lucky person or what? Thank you gentlemen, and thank you Mrs. D.

In closing, I have to say that an ordinary day turned into an extraordinary day, and Mrs. D is the friendliest cafeteria lady I have ever met! Winking smile (cafeteria ladies are so often undeservedly ragged upon as ogres)

Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later, Judy

  1. Don 't you just love it when you have an unexpected day like this; to me they are better than the planned ones which are great, of course, but the unexpected ones just have something extra that really clicks with me.

  2. What a great day, I came from a generation where almost everyone played a musical instrument and families would jam on a weekend night. I played all the bass instruments, including the sousaphone(tuba) upright bass, string Bass( bass fiddle)and bass guitar. Flying in the Navy ended my music career as I didn't have time with the studies and flying. WE have lost a lot of that art here in this country, But one of my friends 16 year old sons plays the tube in the high school band and we are fore ever talking about my early exploits in music. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna.

  3. What a great day you had! I have to admit I'm a little jealous -- we are working way too much when we're supposed to be retired and enjoying life!

  4. How wonderful that the "D" family took you in like a long lost relative!! It is refreshing to know that there are still folks out there who are willing to share what they have. You were so lucky to have this wonderful experience. Have a great weekend.

  5. Wonder grand day and a private concert to boot. They all look like they enjoy playing together. I think a banjo just adds laughter to any music.

  6. How fun. Their son is young to be involved in blue grass and I love it when the young folks learn to enjoy music other than the c**p that is out there. Come to Arizona and we'll take you to some of the bluegrass jams we go to.

  7. It's great when it all comes together! We've never been a one person audience, or even a two person audience, except perhaps for a clowning child or grandchild of our own. Incidentally, we don't blame you for not wanting to drive after dark. We don't like it either, but we'll do it when necessary.

  8. What a treat to have your own Blue Grass Festival!
I love all of those instruments together, too, wonderful sound!
When you move to the other COE park, I hope the Dish is more cooperative! :)

  9. There's an annual blue grass festival at the hotel just down the street from us. It charges admission but I never understood why anyone pays since all the players are jamming all over the place all the time anyway. :)

  10. Live music and home-grown tomatoes. Just add chianti and you’ve attained nirvana.

    Howdy Judy & Emma,

Here we call that 'pickin' & grinnin''.. Just the same it's the home folks kind of music. That bearded banjer-picker was havin' himself a time agrinnin'!
You'll notice that Bluegrassers are mostly country folk and not the crazy kind of musician who have to cuss or make dirty remarks in their shows!!! They also use instruments that have to be 'played' by skilled musicians and don't break your eardrums !! Too bad you couldn't stay for the whole show!! The Dilehay's
sound like a real fine country family!!!
