Birds, Battles, and Bras

When I set things up here after arriving at Defeated Creek COE campground, yesterday, I also put out one of the Hard Rock Bird Café feeders.  It wasn’t long before a couple of tufted titmice came to visit.  It always surprises me that in some locations it only takes a little time for avian visitors to appear.  All of the numerous pictures tonight were taken from my rocker in between rain storms.

The reason there are so many pictures is part of my battle that I’ve been going through with Sprint.  In my last post I mentioned that I had cancelled that air card service.  I found their customer service profoundly lacking.  So this morning I headed out to Lebanon, TN, and signed up for Verizon.  These pictures are part of a four pronged test of their coverage.

When I got back to the rig, I immediately set up the laptop, and quickly had two bars of service on the air card.  I checked my email from the last few days, and then went to check some of the blogs that I follow to see how the download/upload time would be.

I haven’t been able to read or comment much for more than a week.  When I checked Rick’s blog, I noticed he had included a short video.  With Sprint, I’ve clicked on very few videos because if I do I only see a second or two before it stops to reload.  Today, I saw the entire video of his dog, Rylie, romping along the trail without interruption.  Granted, it was only an 11 second video, but that’s the first time even a short video has loaded.

Then it was on to Bayfield Al’s blog.  I haven’t even tried to read his blog lately because he usually posts a gazillion pictures, and that just wasn’t going to work for me.  Wouldn’t you know that he only had one picture on his last post!  So, I went to some of his older posts, and Bingo!, everything was there instantly.

The third thing I tested was the “Weather in Motion” feature on the Weather Channel website.  It didn’t load, but two out of three isn’t too bad.  The final test will be to see if I can publish a post with numerous pictures in under a half hour.  Some nights it has taken me many hours to publish a post with pictures using Sprint.

Since there are only two bars here, I think I’ll wait to try to publish until the latest downpour is over.  We’ve had some good rain here yesterday and today.  Lots of thunder and some lightening, but no severe winds.  I can deal with that.

As I made my way to and from Lebanon today, I noticed one of those outlet places along the way.  I decided to stop in for a purchase that always gets my ire up.  Why is it that bras cost so much?  They may be a necessary evil, but how come men can get three pairs of underwear for $10 or so, but a good Playtex Bra runs $30 for one?
IMG_8741
I’d try going without, but you ladies know what age and gravity do.  Reminds me of my old Girl Scout song once again, “Do your boobs hang low, do they wobble too and fro…”  Surprised smile

I have a little adventure in mind for tomorrow, but it will depend on the weather.  I’d like it to be sunny with blue skies, but the forecast doesn’t seem to agree.  I may have to wait until Wednesday.
Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later,  Judy

  1. I've been very happy with Verizon - they are stopping their unlimited data service, though, and hopefully will grandfather in all of us who are already customers. It looks like Verizon did a good job for you.

Great photos, and I agree about the bra thing. Way too expensive, but a necessary evil!

  2. Looks like Verizon has come thru for you! love the pics. I too dont understand the cost of bras. The skimpier they are the more expensive they are.
The older I get the more that song fits me... "can you tie em in a knot can you tie em in a bow....

  4. Oh my God...Do your ears hang low??? Yep, I'm there...Even small ones end up on your belly button...I HATE bras...have been taken to wearing sports bras, but those are even a ridiculous price...I say, just let "the girls" hang out like we have done...I am soooo with you on this one!!!!!

  5. If I let mine hang, I'd be tripping over them. So necessary evil is part of my world. All your pictures look great so I'm glad Verizon is working for you.

  6. Anther thing at our age is always put on your bra before you zip up your pants.
    Great pictures
Teri from Teri's World is having lots of Sprint problems.

  7. Looks like Verizon is your answer. Can you throw 'em over your shoulder like a tiny little soldier, do your ears hang low? I have gone to wearing camisoles -- no more wires or elastic under the boobs for me!

  8. Bras - YUCK! Well, at least we don't have to wear pantyhose anymore.

  9. Well all your pictures came up real fast on my computer tonight so I guess your Verizon is working well....

    ...JUST KIDDING!!!

  10. Funny, we canned Verizon and went to Sprint and have had good service with them.

Maybe bras are more expensive than men's undies because they have much more to hold up??? ;c)

  12. There's so much to see from where you are. We really enjoyed our tour of The Hermitage on our last trip to Defeated. And, of course, you're not far from Nashville. The Old Riman Theater is something to see!

    And, BTW, we hope you'll meet up with our favorite Carthage local - Lisa Hembree. She, and her family, are great people. But, don't let them know we told you that. ;-}

    Enjoy your stay!

  13. O.M.G. I can't believe you waited that long for your blogs to load! You have the patience of a saint for sure!

We have a VCard for traveling and I was happy with it last year. If we ever get out of here this year I'm assuming the same will hold true!

  14. I don't know yet what I'm going to do about connectivity when I get back on the road this fall. Dave says I can probably tether my 3G iPad to act as my hotspot when the new OS comes out next month. We'll see.

One advantage of not having much to hold is I can buy cheap sports bras.

  15. So glad your Verizon works. We really like the way ours does the trick.

Bras...YUCK. I take my off the second we get back in the motor home. And you are right...the price is ridiculous!

  16. Love your pictures, Verizon air card has been good most of the time during our travels.
I agree, yuck, yuck, yuck, to all the bras, I squeeze into a stretch bra, about $7.00 and free shipping.

  17. Good to have you and your pictures back

  18. Nice photos. Glad to see you've sorted out the internet challenge.
Now onto the undergarment controversy. (that's maybe a stretch, but sounds good)
I realise it would be utterly impossible to accomplish, but I really think that some items, such as these unmentionables, along with certain "feminine hygiene" products, should be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. That would ease the pain a little bit.
    Other than that, I nothin'.
Used to be, the bigger they are, the more you paid, but that doesn't seem to apply any more.

  19. What a necessary evil! I despise underwires and elastic! Ya know as men age they get boobies too....I think they should try bras and see how it feels, don't you?

  20. We switched to Verizon about 4 years ago & have been happy with it ever since. I do understand long 'Publishng' times though when I upload my nightly Gazillion photos. Good thing I cut it back from a Bazillion eh....:))

  21. We can't use our phone for anything here... too close to the Canadian border.. bounces off their towers and we pay international rates. AT&T would adjust bill later, but it's a real hassle. Hope you got your problems solved. As for the bra discussion, the comment about getting caught in your pants zipper cracked me up ;-)

  22. I go with the genie bra. I got mine at Bed Bath and Beyond, two for $19.95. Really comfortable.

    1. I have enjoyed everyone's bra stories, I went to Bed Bath and Beyond and purchased a Genie Bra, after I figured out what to do with those triangles I had the most comfortable fitting bra that I have ever worn. Everyone needs to try it. The sales lady said that if you figure out what size you need by the information on the package get the next size bigger. She was right I'm so glad I took her advice.

  23. Glad Verizon is working better for you and I think I'll stay out of the bra discussion!

  24. We have a Verizon Mi-Fi and have been pretty happy with it. The Weather Channel radar in motion works for us so hopefully it will work for you when you have a better signal. I agree about the bra. I hate them and take it off as soon as possible. I'm surprised on all the comments above who feel the same. You'd think with so many women hating bras, they'd come up with something better. I'm going to have to investigate this genie bra.

  25. It appears Verizon will work for you. Hope it continues. Jezzzzzzzz, now you have me humming that old girl scout tune in my head. Enjoy the day!!!

  26. My Sprint hotspot stopped working on our way up to North Dakota. For some reason it decided it wouldn't connect to the signal without updating the software... and of course since it wouldn't connect it couldn't update the software. Apparently the only Sprint store in North Dakota that can fix the problem is located in Fargo, about 250 miles from our present location. I got Sprint to put the account on "vacation hold" since it wasn't working for a mere $8 a month. Just sent it back to Fargo with my niece to see if she can get it fixed and mail it back to me. Still considering switching to a Verizon pay as you go hotspot... Still have 18 months left on my Sprint contract. Prior to this we had been very happy with with Sprint, but are finding it sure doesn't work out here in the boonies...
Oh, and I'm SO with you on the bra thing! I don't mind the price if it were just comfortable and the straps would stay up! Wouldn't you know just when I find one I love, they discontinue the style...

  27. Hey Judy....would wrapping yourself in an ace bandage be cheaper?...LOL

  28. Verizon has been with us since our first cell phone way last century -- can't say they've been perfect or without a hitch, but I sure wouldn't trade!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Verizon works well for us too. Glad Rylie was able to be part of your 4-pronged test. Whatever happened to all those 'burn the bras' days years ago?

    ReplyDelete
  30. We recently switched to Verizon too. We use a Galaxy Tablet to get the data signal in, and it creates a mini wifi bubble for our laptops to connect too, like a router does. When the signal is weak, we also bought a Wilson antenna booster that really made a big difference with both our cell phones and the Galaxy Tablet data signal. Goes from 1 or 2 bars up to 4 or 5!

  31. I'm just laughing myself silly over all these bra comments. Ladies HOW low do they go?? Guess I've finally gotten to the point in my life where being relatively flat chested is an advantage. Sure took long enough. Sure wasn't fun for a lot of years.

Sounds like you should have a rally Judy so we can all get together and sing that old campfire song. I'm just wondering now how in the world that became a "girl scout" song. Seems a bit much for girl scouts.

  32. I've already told you how happy we have been with our Verizon - hope you will be just as happy with yours!

I agree with Paul and Mary, if you get a chance go see The Hermitage. The DAR convinced the TN legislature to buy Pres. Jackson's complete plantation as a historical treasure. We want to go back and see the half we didn't have time to see! Lots of history.
