Sometimes I’m a slow learner

Not much happening at Isaac Creek campground the last couple of days other than a falling tree limb taking out the water supply for a few hours.

On one of our walks around the campground I came upon this lovely gazebo with four rocking chairs.  Since I’m struggling a bit with long walks due to my back and right hip, it was a welcome respite for Emma and me.  You know I love rockers, and what a pleasant setting to rock away the pain.  I’ve taken advantage of this rest stop several times.

It was time today to start packing things up again.  It’s been a very restful week, but I’m ready to move on.  I’ve decided to avoid the interstate, and take the road less traveled to get to Prairie Creek campground tomorrow.  I’m banking on a Sunday morning having less traffic on the twisty two lane road.  I hope I’m right.

I’ve been watching an orchard oriole begin building a hanging nest in some nearby Spanish moss the last couple of days.  I tried to get a picture of her hopping into it, but didn’t succeed.  I also didn’t succeed in putting in an arrow on the right pic to show you where she enters that moss.  Picnic just wouldn’t cooperate with me tonight.  I’ve really enjoyed watching all the avian goings on here.  I even had a hummer visit my feeder a few times before I took it down this evening.

One of the things I always do the day before a road trip is store away my DISH satellite.  I generally just watch some DVD I have in the evening before departure.  For some unknown reason, this afternoon a light bulb went off in my head.  My DISH receiver has a built in DVD recorder so I can watch pre-recorded shows without having to live through all the commercials.  I always thought that I had no access to pre-recorded shows unless my satellite was up and running.  I figured the shows were off in some cloud in the sky somewhere.  On a whim, I tried turning on the receiver this afternoon after I had packed the DISH, and sure enough I could watch my shows.  Uf-dah!  It only took me six years to figure that one out.  Slow learner??  I guess so!

Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later,  Judy

  2. At least you figured it out about the DVR. I would still be complaining about not being able to use it.

  3. Judy, I read that Google has shut down Picnic; which may explain why it wasn't cooperating with you. It would be nice if Picasa had a feature to add arrows or otherwise mark up a photo.

    1. As you can write text on pictures with Picasa, I don't see why one couldn't make an arrow -----> and mark and/or rotate it to the place on the picture.

Lovely pictures as usual, Judy. Thank you for sharing.

  4. Uf-dah is right, Judy! On the bright side - maybe you'll find 6 years worth of shows to watch now!

  6. We've also wondered if you can watch the DVR without the satellite being hooked up. Thanks for the info. We were just always too lazy to try it and see if it worked. Now we know!

  7. Loved the rocking chairs! My thoughts about chairs.... if it doesn't rock, glide or recline, why have it. I can see myself rocking away right beside you !

  8. We tried to do that same thing but it told us that we had to start the show BEFORE we could store our dish. Do you use Direct TV? That is what we use.

  9. Good for u...I like to think I'm good with stuff like that but I'm really a bit (or a lot) tech-challenged. lol Hope u have a safe uneventful trip to Prairie Creek tomorrow. I know u need time to set up and rest so just give us a call when ur ready to do some looking around. We'd like to take u to lunch and also have u out here to the house for a home-cooked meal if u like. Hope u will be here several days so we'll have time to see some things without trying to pack it all in one day. We'll wait to hear from u. BTW, 2 rocking chairs on our enclosed back porch.lol Emma is welcomed to join us if u like. Killer loves canine company. His name is Killer because he will lick us to death. It it's alright with u I'd like to bring Emma a pup-a-roni and/or a dog biscuit but if u'd rather she not have treats, just let me know. Looking forward to visiting with u and showing u our little neck of the woods.

  10. I think we sometimes don't think about many things and one is watching a dvr show while satellite is stored. We naturally think...no dish up, no tv. Glad you had that epiphany.

  11. Don't you just love it when that light bulb goes off? I love your header photo. I always try to get birds in fight, but it's not easy. This one is perfect. :)

  12. If your dish hard drive is big enough, you may not have to raise the dish for weeks:)

  13. Love that header shot of the bird. All the time we were on this last trip we didn't watch tv one time. But now that we're home, we're catching up on all the things we missed haha!!

  16. Slow learner is still better than no learner at all so you are still ahead of the game. My new housemate, Suzanne Thornton says to tell you how much she has appreciated the binoc harness you gave her. And Tom and Sally ?Hall are also here. So come and party.

  17. Uf-da, I'm glad you figured that out. It seems the older I get the more moments I have like that too.

  18. At least you learned. Some people (like me) never do...

  20. Hey, I'm still trying to understand that our photos just show up in Picasa..they don't "reside" there...so McGyver says...What the H E double toothpicks is the darn difference anywho??? (We love our DVR)..

  21. I haven't even figured out how to use Picasa so you are WAY ahead in that arena. I like traveling on Sundays too. Seems, especially in the mornings, that everyone is off the roads. Maybe they are all in church and the others sleeping in from their Saturday nights.
