99.6 miles to be exact. It took me about two and a half hours up the essentially empty curvy two lane roads to arrive at Prairie Creek COE campground on the Alabama River. The road conditions were excellent until I ran into a real gully washer about half way there. I’m sure Emma was trembling away in her crate as the rain poured down and we were surrounded by lots of lightning and really loud cracks of thunder. There were no shoulders on these roads, so I just slowed down, gripped the steering wheel and slowly made my way through it.
As I arrived at the gate to the campground, the host was standing outside with my papers all ready for me. Guess I was the only scheduled person arriving today.
It didn’t take me long to back right in on one try, and begin setting things up for a one week stay. It was very hot and humid, but everything went so smoothly I could ignore the sweat falling into my eyes. It’s so refreshing when things just go as planned.
I’m really liking this site with Prairie Creek surrounding two sides of my place. It has a paved driveway, and I’m guessing is about 80’ long. The sites on this spit are very spacious. I’m on the end of the row, so no one is on my left, and the rig on my right is quite a ways away. With the Old Farts Pass, it’s $10/night for 50 amps and water.
I walked behind the picnic table and found this great egret hunting for supper across the creek. As I was setting up, a great blue heron was fishing the same spot.
A pair of cardinals came by to welcome me. I put up my seed feeder on the lantern pole, so I’ll see what shows up besides the numerous squirrels in the area. I’m thinking I might even inflate my kayak and take a paddle or two on the creek and river while I’m here. It’s a very short distance from my site to the boat launch.
The view from my picnic table. I believe the creek is a no wake area, so I won’t get capsized! Emma and I will relax, and investigate the park tomorrow before I give a call to Judie about doing some sight seeing in her neck of the woods. My Sprint signal is mediocre here even with the tucker’s antenna and amplifier, but it’s better than battling with Sprint over my roaming usage that was the only way I had a signal last week. We’ll see what happens when I try to post this.
Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later, Judy
Beautiful spot! I think the birds but check the reservations and know you're coming. They sure show up for you.
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL PICS -- glad you made it thru the downpour and got all set up with no probs. Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on backing on the first try! (I'd still be wrangling the darned thing around!).... By the way... WHAT the heck WAS that warbler you posted on April 19th? I hate to admit it, but about all I could see was a belly and a beak.... darn! I thought the cataract surgery was going to work....
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the new digs!! Looks like a wonderful place to spend some time. Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful spot to spend a week. . .enjoy!

That is a beautiful spot. John just said to put that park on the list when he saw the photos. Its just the kind of place we would love too. have a wonderful stay.
ReplyDeleteLooks nice. In Arizona tonite had to wear jackets to sit outside for the sunset. Looking forward to hearing about you taking the canoe out.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a nice spot, maybe some bugs? We are heading to Robertsdale alabama next weekend for a winnebago rally. Are you anywhere around that area?
ReplyDeleteLovely, lovely spot. Looks so peaceful and surround by beauty. Enjoy your stay.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a gorgeous gigantic site for only $10 bucks! Bet you and Emma will have a wonderful week there!
ReplyDeleteWow! Your site is just beautiful! And I'm really glad that it seems like things are finally turning around your way recently! It appears you have a good fishing spot ~ got a license?
ReplyDeleteGlad you like it there and got a good site but it can be awfully warm there this time of year.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy that view for the next week!
ReplyDeleteGreat spot. Can't wait to see the birds that show up.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place to be for a week. We haven't stayed in many COE campgrounds. We're looking forward to using them a lot more in the future.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place; and you can't beat the price. It will be a few years before we qualify for the "old fart's pass", but even at twice the rate, that place looks like a gem. NO COE campgrounds around here that I can find, so will have to wait to get on the road before we can check them out.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a good spot to hang out..
ReplyDeleteI think your site is one of the nicest I've ever seen. It looks like a good place to stay a while.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a beautiful site. I'm sure we'll be getting lots of bird photos coming up!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a beautiful site. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThat is one nice RV site--you picked well!! Enjoy your week there Judy!
ReplyDeleteWe really like the short trips so that if there is a gully washer you just slow down a little and handle it much better than you can on a 250 mile day.
ReplyDeleteOld Fart's Pass? Too funny. I guess we're still new farts because we don't yet qualify to get one. :c(
ReplyDeleteas everyone else has said....great spot
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to visiting with our OFP!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great looking RV site. Enjoy your week's stay!
ReplyDeleteLovin' those COE sites..Usually very spacious and near a body of water...Yours look fabulous...Get that A/C running and open a bottle of a nice Red...life is good, eh?
ReplyDeleteYou got a winner of a site! Maybe with your old fart's pass, and the length of that site, we could fit BOTH motorhomes on it! LOL (just kidding)
ReplyDeleteWill mark that one on our maps!~

Looks like a great spot to relax and enjoy life for a while. Hope the bugs aren't too bad.
ReplyDeleteLove those COE parks!
ReplyDeleteI just hate driving in rain. I always feel like I'm white knuckling the wheel.
ReplyDeleteI've definitely put this COE on my list. Would love to know your site number, it sure is a beauty. You say it's hot and humid which doesn't surprise me for May. But how are the bugs? That would be a killer for me.
Hope it won't be too hot for you to kayak although if you will be at Alligator River for the summer, you and heat and humidity will get to be buddies for sure. :-)
Beautiful park to stay a week!
ReplyDeleteYou are braver than us! We couldn't take the humidity down there in the south!
Had to go all of the way up to Maine to shake it! LOL
I hope you and Emma have a relaxing stay to enjoy the birds and flora!
