Feeling a little fuzzy around the edges

I haven’t been doing much for the last five days other than trying to recuperate.  I’ve taken a number of your suggestions and am putting them into practice.  I started out with just liquids, moved to soft easy foods, and am just beginning to add some solids.  So far so good.  The couple of meds I’m on make me feel a little whacko, but I’ll do the full course.  At least the pain is about gone.

“THANK GOODNESS I GOT AWAY FROM THE KIDS FOR A FEW MOMENTS”

I spoke with Andy today, and he is at home recuperating very nicely.  After the surgery he had some pain in his shoulder.  Turns out it’s caused from the air they inflate your abdomen with for the operation.  I guess it wanders around the body before it dissipates.  Who would have guessed?  Sorry to say, they will not be able to come down for a visit before I move on.

“I FOUND YOU MOM!  I WANT TO TELL YOU A SECRET…”

I have noticed over the last week or so that my water pressure in the rig has been fluctuating wildly on occasion.  Usually there was a nice steady blast since I put in a new water pressure regulator in February, but once in a while only a dribble would come out of the faucet.  (Kind of hard to flush the toilet properly when you’re having intestinal issues Smile with tongue out)  I won’t go into the details of why I was reluctant to take a shower the last few evenings… you can guess.

Anyway, this morning I put a load of wash in the Splendide, and after a very little bit no water was going into the drum.  Ugh!  Luckily I had enough water in the fresh water tank, so I switched it on for that load.  I went outside and the hose was as limp as a noodle.  What gives?  I turned off the water at the pipe, took off the regulator, but couldn’t find a thing wrong with it.  It wasn’t clogged.  There was plenty of pressure at the spigot.  I reattached everything and gave it another try.  For a minute or so the hose pulsated along its whole length, and then went limp again.  I thought maybe I was losing my mind from the meds.

When Don and Mary got home from volunteering, I asked for their ideas on this dilemma.  Don did all the same steps I did with the same result.  Okay, so I’m not losing my mind.  I told him that the other day I found a new spare regulator in one of my basement bins that I wasn’t even aware that I had.  Now why couldn’t I think of that earlier this afternoon when I was trying to solve the problem by myself?  Who knows.  We switched regulators and things are back to normal.  What a waste of $30 on a regulator that only lasted about six weeks!

  1. Glad you're not in pain any longer, Judy. I hope you continue to improve without any additional treatment.

I've had trouble with different regulators on my little trailer--last one I bought seems to be a winner.

Doesn't it drive you nuts when you go through everything and skip over the obvious?

  2. I had that shoulder pain with my surgery too, It was worse than the surgery, felt like someone was stabbing a knife in he shoulder & twisting it!!! They gave me more morphine & it went away :)

  4. Glad the changed regulator did the trick...it will be nice to have water flow so you can take good showers and other needs. Hang in there, sounds like the meds and diet are getting you back to 100%.
    Take care!

  7. Good to see things are looking up for you. Also, so sorry about you missing the visit with your family. Know you were really looking forward to it.

  8. Try soaking your regulator in 50/50 vinegar and water solution for a week or so and then try it out.

Good to see you are on the mend.

  9. Goodness, what a time for the regulator to act up. If you try the vinegar and water solution, let us know if it works.

SO sorry the visit isn't going to happen. I know you were really looking forward to it. But at this point I'm sure you are looking more forward to feeling ship shape again. Sounds like you are on your way. That's a relief.

  10. That pain caused by the gas used to inflate the abdomen for laparoscopic surgery can get very bad, and mimic a heart attack. I was warned about it when I had my gallbladder removed. Glad to hear that you're slowly recuperating.

  14. So glad I found your blog. I'm currently volunteering for a couple of months at Anahuac NWR before heading to Jackson Hole and the National Elk Refuge. Tell my friends John and Diana hello - I'll be seeing them in a few months. Will be reading your previous musings over the next few weeks. I like your style and sass! Safe travels, saltycrabb

  15. Judy I replaced the small RV regulator we had with a regular home type with fittings for a garden house on each end. That ended my pressure problems and you can depend on more volume from the bigger regulator. I keep it on the end of the hose you hitch to the water standpipe, about $35 and it is adjustable if you have a gauge for water pressure. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna....

  18. Glad to hear you are on the mend...watch anything w/ seeds...after his surgery Sam said all the air in the abdomen was as bad as the pain before surgery, but at least you know that will go away...hope Andy is up an atta in no time. Cut squirrel pics....is Emma still going nuts over them? Sadie loves to chase them up trees, but one of these days they are going to figure out they are bigger than her !

  19. So happy to hear of your progress! Those squirrels are so darned cute!

  20. That is exactly what we have been experiencing with our regulators...some great advice from your readers we will be testing out to see which ones will extend our regulators usage.

So glad you are feeling better!

  21. Nice to see progress towards getting back to normal. Sure don't like long recuperations, hopefully you'll be running with the fifth graders soon.

I've had several water regulators go bad, I hardly ever use one anymore. I check the water pressure before I hook up and only once was it really too high.

  22. I've had the same issue with water regulators and always make sure I have a spare handy.

  23. So sorry your son had to cancel his trip, but very happy to hear that he's recuperating well and that your pain is almost gone.

  24. Glad to hear you son is doing better but too bad about the trip. Sure hope you get to feeling better soon. It's certainly no fun being sick, but then to have water problems too...bummer. Take care...

P.S. Thanks for all the cute squirrel pictures. I think I've mentioned that I'm kinda partial to the little furry rodents!!

  25. I'm glad you are feeling better. Good that you had a spare regulator on board. Sounds like something I'd do...have a spare & forget about it...

  26. When it comes to water issues, I only buy from the RV Water Filter Store. They carry only the best products and are great people to do business with.

  27. I, too, am just getting 'caught up' on blog post readings and was so sorry to read that you've been experiencing this diverticulitis problem. Over the years, I've had a few family members and friends that have gone through what you describe - nasty, awful experience!! Hope you continue to mend thoroughly and quickly.

I was amazed to read that your son was going through his own painful experience. I'm sending good wishes his way also. Hopefully, he and his family will be able to meet up with you when you in another location?!

I'm wondering what your shceduled departure date is for leaving MS Sandhill Crane Judy. My sister and I will be travelling through the area on our way to San Antonio TX in the next 10 - 12 days and I was hoping to stop by for a little visit with you and Emma!

Continue to heal and feel better. . . . .

  28. Almost our entire family has had this affliction..except me...I'm just to ornery for the germs to be attracted to me...The people that have had it are weak and puny for about a week...My guess...all those 5th graders are the culprits..We are healthy as horses until we come home and get in close proximity of our grandkids...just sayin'.

  29. Sorry to hear you're not back to full speed yet. Take more Aloe!

Glad you got your water regulator replaced and working properly.

  30. Glad to hear you are on the mend. I have had several new regulators over the years prove to we defective out of the box. Like you they prevented proper flow. I guess in the big picture, I prefer that rather than allowing unlimited pressure. I also found the ones with gauges to be mostly highly inaccurate. So I never leave the water on when I leave the rig.

  31. Thanks, Judy, for your kind words...

  32. I too had pain after my surgery because of the gas, yes, worse than the surgery, but it eventually went away.
Here at Garner, the water pressure can fluctuate, so I have to use a regulator, but since the drought last year, there are so many minerals in the water, they get clogged. I will check it it again and try another filter.
