It’s been pretty mild this year down in the south, but the last few days has reminded me that it really is winter. I’ve left the water faucet dripping the last two nights so the hose wouldn’t freeze, but things are looking up. I’ve had two relaxing days to catch up on chores, but haven’t spent too much time outside because of the chilly temperatures and strong northerly winds.
Emma and I hiked up and down the entrance road several times today. I was hanging around camp since my friends Diana and John would be arriving to settle in to volunteer here for a couple of months.
It has been a couple of years since the last time we volunteered together, but we’ve kept in touch and met along the way since then. Some of you understand how that is. When we meet again, we just take up the conversation where it last left off.
Despite the little blast of winter, the mushrooms are still cropping up and these tiny blossoms are still doing their thing. Spring is definitely on its way, and it seems that the large flocks of robins have thinned in the last couple of days.
There are still plenty of holly berries available (Ilex Vomitoria).
I’ve been thinking about replacing my present TV in the main part of the RV with a flat screen with HD capabilities. Then I could upgrade to HD (free for life) on my DISH satellite. That is something my oldest son thinks I ought to do. I’m not so sure about needing that, but I do know my Visio flat screen that I had put in my old rig was a great improvement over the TV that came with the rig. Well, John says he could help me accomplish this upgrade. Since I know it’s not something I could do myself, I’m thrilled with that offer. I get along with a little help from my friends…
Tomorrow I’m off to meet fellow bloggers and tour the US Alabama in Mobile. Hopefully the forecasted rain will move through before we meet for lunch.
Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later, Judy
We also have hardly been out of the rig. Partly do the temps. The rest is due to a double dose of a nasty cold. Hopefully, we can escape and enjoy the promised warm up.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day with friends:)
I like those mushroom photos. They remind me of Alice in Wonderland!! Hope you have a good day with friends tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing we did when we bought our MH was switch out the TV. The one that was in our rig was sooo heavy -- the flat screen is so much better! Great pics as usual!
ReplyDeleteYep, it had gotten lots cooler..We had high winds last night, and some rain all the way to Goliad...But we are here and the sun came out this evening...life it good. We upgraded to HV and love it..in our bedroom and living room..
ReplyDeleteWas cold here too but today the sun is shinning again and it is beautiful. I am fascinated with mushrooms, such cool photos.
ReplyDeleteReally much too chilly for me this weekend here in San Antonio but today was back to early spring and tomorrow we're in the mid 70s so it should be moving on towards you quickly. The pictures are so gorgeous, the colors are really intense.

I toured the US Alabama 30 years ago when my youngest was in a stroller. Not something I would recommend, packing a 2 year old up and down the stairs. There were Japanese tourists on there and it sure felt strange touring a US battle ship with the Japanese.

Have fun touring the Alabama and come back and take us there, too.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the tour of the Alabama. Thanks for inviting us!
ReplyDeleteWe are looking for warmer weather, too!
ReplyDeleteWe were able just to sit a 32 inch TV right in the space on the stand and use some strapping to attach it to the old metal framing. You probably have the same TV we had- it is very heavy. At least two men should be there to lift it out.
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures today.
ReplyDeleteWe have Directv, and a rooftop satellite dish. It works well, but we do not have HD. My understanding is that HD requires more satellites and is harder to get it to lock on. That's why we did't get the HD...although we did get the HD capable dish... I may be wrong, but this is how I understand it.
Great photos. Hope you enjoy the Alabama. We really had a great visit. Expect to spend a few hours to do it justice! ~wheresweaver
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the Alabama...we sure did. Also just down the road is Felix Fish Camp. Great restaurant (a bit pricey) but excellent food and huge windows overlooking the bay and coastal grasses, great spot to catch up with old friends.
ReplyDeleteJust BS!(Bob and Sue)
just catching up on a few blogs....Arent Phyllis and Len great people...we really enjoyed their company when they were here.
ReplyDeleteMushroom pics great..all I've seen in Mo. are plain old variety...those look like something out of a smurf cartoon.
Have fun touring the USS Alabama. Can't wait to see what kind of great, interesting photos you come back with.
ReplyDeleteLove your WINTER pictures. I want to do the flat screen save weight and space TV thing to so I'll be interested in further reports on that.
ReplyDeleteHave to say that I laugh out loud at your header picture and caption every single time I read one of your posts. That is just fabulous!!! "Can I sell you some insurance" hahahahahah!
Every time I p[en your blog I smile at that lizard. It looks like he is wearing eye shadow!
ReplyDeleteThat's what friends are for.....
