You were right!

I was wrong.  Thank goodness enough of you left comments so I didn’t set my clocks back an hour last night.  Daylight Savings Time doesn’t end, and we don’t fall back on hour until next weekend.  In my defense, I looked on my calendar, and end DST was printed on yesterday’s square.  I have my brother, Carl, to thank for that.  He made the calendar that I have hanging on my fridge.  Maybe he was just trying to add a little excitement to my dull life??  If so, he succeeded.

IMG_3809Emma and I were up early this morning to view the sunrise on her first outs.  Yesterday I had thought to head over to the Skillern Tract to view the morning exodus of egrets and cormorants from the roosting area, but I really had to take care of some laundry chores in the morning.  I was scheduled to work in the VIS (Visitor’s Information Station) this afternoon, so I couldn’t do both.  The laundry won out.

As usual for this time of the year, it was a slow day.  Only had 21 people stop in, and very few sales.

_MG_3814I did find another butterfly species stopping in the garden before I headed back inside because the mosquitoes had found some fresh meat on my exposed arms.  It was a wonderful day weather wise, but there wasn’t much bird activity in the afternoon.

I leave you tonight with another shot of today’s sunrise.  I have tomorrow off, and will make a trip to Beaumont to stock up on supplies and try to get a haircut.  Haircuts are always a challenge on the road.  That will add a little excitement to my day!  Smile

Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later,  Judy

  2. Beautiful sunrise! Know what you mean about the haircut -- you just never know what you'll get on the road.

  3. The clocks use to fall back this weekend but thanks to George W., he passed a law in 2005 to change to the first weekend in November...why, I have no idea.

  4. glad you are on the same time schedule as the rest of us!..although this morning my computer icon clock was wrong..so it may have seen the same calendar your brother made for you!!

  5. After all the "fun" you had with losing your brakes and frying your fridge, you consider getting a haircut exciting?

I'm thinking if you go for the Michael Jordan look, you won't face the haircut challenge as often... ;c)

  6. That sunrise is enough to get you up and at 'em...beautiful!

Daylight savings time is confusing. Az. and Hawaii do not observe DST. The law was changed by Congress in 2005 as part of the energy bill. Seems like you still have the lights on either in the morning or at night so not sure what the rationale was. Oh well, I just go with the flow!

  7. My new computer knew enough not to fall back but my older digital bedroom clock had me thinking I was wide awake at 5am this morning. NOT, it was 6am. Anything programmed prior to 2005 will fall back this weekend, including paper calendars. Maybe it has to do with halloween and kids out in the dark.

  10. Beautiful pictures! gorgeous ...

well? I take excitement wherever I can get it...

Doesn't really matter any longer... I get up and I go to bed and try to stay awake in between without eating too much pie... don't know what time it is half the time anyway... lol

  12. Getting a haircut is a challenge no matter where you are! I refuse to spend top dollar to get this old head sheared.

Sure Cuts give a $10 senior cut on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I really need to get over there soon, my bangs are finally growing out from the last time I trimmed them myself!

  13. Great sunrise pictures.
Laundry is a pain in the butt. Of course now that I am in my winter home I have washer and dryer love it. And hair cuts, that is a very scary subject. I will try to let it grown and not worry about it.

  14. Nice pictures. Glad you got up so early, and didn't turn your clocks back quite yet.

  15. Way to go Carl, LOL! It's ok Judy I think you needed a good laugh.

As for the haircut...damned if I do & damned if I don't! $15 a month to keep the short-do or $140 (highlite, cut, tax & tip) every 8 months for the long-do. Either way it adds up.

Great pics once again, thanks for sharing! Cheers! ~M

  16. Fortunately, I travel with my own barber but still have a bad habit of letting my hair grow to the point where I look like the Wild Man From Borneo before getting it cut!!

  17. Laundry usually wins out:) Otherwise, you have to smell bad or go naked. Wrong time of year to go naked!

  18. I like the way Carl rolls!..Being a OLD hairdresser, I take scissors and clippers when we travel...One time in Texarkana I did about 4 haircuts on peeps at Clear Springs campground near us...Too bad we aren't parked next to ya...I could "get r done"!!

  19. One of the blessings of Arizona is --- no Daylight Savings Time, ever! We don't like it, we don't have it. So some of the year we're right with New Mexico (Mountain Time) and some of the year we're right with California (Pacific Time) but we're always right with Arizona Time. Even computer calendars know that. Try setting your computer to a different time zone and you will see that there is a time zone just for Arizona!

  20. I've had good luck getting my hair cut at beauty colleges. Very inexpensive and the instructors check everything the students are doing.
Too bad the mosquitoes are still out in force.

  21. I agree on the haircut thing. I put it off because I dread finding somewhere to get it done. I'm due for one and will have to brave it soon.

  22. Howdy Judy & Emma,

Out here on the ranch nobody cares what their haircut looks like.. Mine hasn't been cut in over 3 years and it hadn't been cut for 3 years before that.. Joyce's hasn't been cut in 8 years, since she went to Greece.. With humans!
If you weren't so close to Louzanna(how Pete Fountain sez it) there wouldn't be all of those skeeterz!!! All skeeterz live in Louzanna and just visit other places; like gators... Give
    Emma a pat for me!!

  23. Maybe Karl had a calendar from Europe? We changed our clocks back this past weekend. I THOUGHT it wasn't until next weekend, but I was wrong. Thankfully I checked the newspaper and it was right there on the front page.

  24. I guess it should have been "Carl", not "Karl". Send him my apologies. Or maybe I was going with the European theme?

  25. Wish I was going to Beaumont with you! I'd steer us to Patillo's for some BBQ and dirty rice. :)

  26. Gorgeous sunrise photos! I agree - haircuts are pretty exciting for me, too. My hair is pretty forgiving, unless it's cut way too short. Luckily the one I got here in Utah was a winner. $12 since I'm a Senior. After a $3 tip, it was still only $15. I've had much more expensive haircuts that I didn't like half as much, you just never know. Good luck! :)

  27. I think seeing the morning sunrises are the best! As much as I wish my dogs would let me sleep in, I don't think I could, nor would I want to miss the sunrises every day! Thanks for sharing yours! Hope your haircut is a good one. :)
