Okay, so I let myself be moody and upset for a day and a half. Then when I woke up this morning the sun was shining, and there wasn’t a rain drop to be found. Hallelujah! I decided that Emma and I were going to hop in the car and go do something to perk ourselves up today (not that she needed any perking up).
I realized that it was Sunday morning, and that meant it was the day for the weekly St. John Farmer’s Market. It was only about 9:00 and still pretty chilly out, so I was able to leave Emma in the car while I checked out the market. Any of you that have met Emma know that it was a wise decision on my part. I don’t call her wild child for nothing. There were fresh cheeses, pumpkins, squash, and even four kinds of fresh made Biscotti. I’ve never had Biscotti before, so I bought two little sampler bags that had all four kinds.
This was the kind of stuff I expected last weekend when I attended the Harvest Festival. I bought one of those baskets of tomatoes, and got eight very nice tomatoes for $2. I also couldn’t pass up getting a handful of honey crisp apples. They were the most expensive, but the farmer explained to me that they are also the apple that takes the most amount of work to grow. I know I’ll eat at least one of them, but I’m thinking I might make some more applesauce out of the rest since I bought those expensive cinnamon sticks a couple of weeks ago. Home made applesauce made with cinnamon sticks and a little brown sugar is something hard to beat in my book. There were also plenty of wild bees around buzzing all the fresh produce. I got a hoot out of the one trying to find a way into the boxed honeycombs. Bee pollen was also for sale to sprinkle on your cereal and such. I’d never heard of that before. Maybe AL could use that in one of his blender messes that he concocts.
Plenty of peaches, grapes, peppers, and preserves could be had also. I did create a bit of a stir amongst the sellers because of taking the pictures. Several of them even knew what a blog was when I told them why I was taking the pics. The farmer that I bought the apples from told me that there is a lady that stops by every week to take pictures of his produce all summer. She uses the pictures to put on the front of notecards. Interesting idea.
After I had my bagful of delicious bounty, Emma and I drove out to revisit LaSalle Fish and Wildlife Area for a good long walk. I’m going to save those pics for tomorrow as this post is long enough.
I got a timely reminder as we headed back to the rig. (‘The Little House on the Parking Lot’.) I’m determined to begin this week with an optimistic point of view.
Thanks for stopping by… talk to you later, Judy
Your blog looked so yummy. Now I want to find a Farmer's Market. Wonder if St. George has one. Loved the sign.
ReplyDeleteLuscious pictures Judy! Making my mouth water... You are an inspiration to me just seeing your patience with the situation you are presently enduring.
ReplyDeleteThe corn maze at the market next door to us has opened for the season along with a pumpkin-shaped bouncy-house and a tractor pulling animal cars made from barrels. Heavy traffic on sunny weekends but the smiles I see on kids faces make it worthwhile. The ice cream place down at the corner is also doing a booming end-of-the-season business. And the leaves are changing colors. Time for us wimps to be heading south.
ReplyDeleteI have only just finished reading all the posts about your brake problems, and now I look forward to reading about them being fixed THIS WEEK!

Never had home made applesauce bet it is good.
ReplyDeleteGreat new header photo--just right for fall! It's always easier to be cheery when the sun is shining.
ReplyDeleteGreat shopping trip! Glad you got out for a bit...fresh produce is a treat for all us travelers that get to stop at so many different spots around the country! Posted on Twitter and Facebook a general comment about Xtra Ride taking their sweet time. If anybody else would like to join in and complain about Judy's situation, she said, "Go for it!"
ReplyDeleteI can't always comment, but I have been reading about your troubles (when blogger allows it) I think you're a candidate for canonization!
ReplyDeleteBiscotti could be used to solve the world's problems!

Blogger comments is fighting me tonight.
My goal is to have your grace, patience & attitude when probs come along! Great header pic & wonderful wisdom in the sign...praying you get out of that parking lot this week!
ReplyDeleteWhen I attended many Alcoholics Anonymous meetings years ago, AA also stood for 'Attitude Adjustment'. And that's what it was, and still is all about......
ReplyDeleteFalls bounty ... how can one not have an attitude adjustment when there's so much color enhanced by sunshine.
ReplyDeleteIt took me two days, but I am finally caught up with your blog. I really liked the post about the Botanical garden in Chicago, and thought your gift to the grands was unique and very educational. We watched many a caterpillar turn into beautiful butterflies. The picture of your Grandpa was also a big treat, but I am so sorry to read about all the trouble you are having with your brakes, and glad you got the right awning installed. Love the names Belt and Buckle you have given each other. Your grands are adorable. I have really missed reading your blog and hope to stay caught up now.
ReplyDeleteYay! She's back! Woohoo! Celebrate! Yeehaw!

Your new header photo is fantastic. It's always nice when you can find something interesting to do to get you past the rough spots. You certainly have plenty to gripe about with all the delays you been experiencing but I'm glad you got out and about to cheer yourself up.
