Grounded again

After those storms and tornadoes moved through in the early evening yesterday, things calmed down, and remained warm overnight.  However, by this morning, the winds had picked up again, and there was a high wind warning that doesn’t expire until 7:00 this evening.

IMG_6400I had a couple of pics left of last night’s storm that I didn’t include yesterday, so I’ll post them tonight.  In this pic, I see a face on the right side looking at the swirling clouds in the middle.  :)   Can you see the wrinkled brow, eye, nose, and lips?  I enjoy cloud gazing.

With a forecast of at least 35 mph winds that would blast the side of the rig as I drove I-45, I decided to sit tight and wait another day to make the final push to Houston.  Once again, I’m happy I followed my gut because the wind has been awful all day.  By 11:00, several rigs were pulling off the highway and checking into the park.

IMG_6401I just watched the video of the tornado that occurred just a little ways from here on the NBC Evening News.  It went straight across I-45 where I had driven just a few hours earlier!  It made the National news.  Oh boy, I’m glad it missed the park I’m in.

I thought about doing a couple of loads of laundry today while I was stuck here, but decided against it.  I’ll have free laundry once I reach Anahuac, so that seemed like a good reason to procrastinate.  :)   I hope to be talking to you from the refuge tomorrow night.  Considering I left Oregon on September 26, it will be about time!

Thanks for stopping by….talk to you later,  Judy

  3. The best thing about having a home on wheels, you can go or just stay put. Very wise to stay. Be safe.

  4. It's hard to believe you've been trying to get to Texas for a month! Maybe there is a message in all this.

  5. Hope it doesn't take us that long to get to Texas or we will be shovelling snow.

  7. Your wind and storm are headed our way so we are staying put here in Nashville for another day. The tornado hit south of us and didn't do any damage and wasn't near as big as "yours". Glad you weren't on the road and are safe.

  11. Your pictures are amazing!

I saw the video online of the tornado. I'm so glad you are safe. We also had severe wind warnings yesterday and last night with gusts to 35 MPH. I slept very little. Kevin just saw online that Wisconsin is supposed to have the worst wind storm in a decade predicted to hit tomorrow. This is some storm howling across the country!

I'm wondering if your Picasa is the premium version that you purchased. I just have the basic free version, and there is not an option to make the pictures different sizes.

Hope you can travel safely tomorrow!

  12. Yep, I saw that old geezer in the clouds alright. You certainly have been in the right place at the right time with your camera getting those storm cloud photos. I see that as a great opportunity with a bonus storm adventure thrown in.

  16. Hey there! Saw the face and the news! So glad you stopped and stayed put and the timing was as it was! It was terribly windy from the south here today and tonight it has turned from the north!

Your travel time has given you just a hint of a true pioneer! Hope you get on in to your designated spot tomorrow... or in the near future!
