Finally, something worked out!

When I headed from Yellowstone to Malheur in August, I had to drive through some construction.  Along the way, a big eighteen wheeler came barreling towards me, kicked up a good sized stone, and it put a chip in the motorhome's windshield.  Ugh!  I’ve had that chip on my mind ever since.  Fast forward to yesterday as I was at the laundromat.  Outside was a man sitting under a canopy with a sign that said free windshield chip repair.  I went out to talk to him which resulted in his saying he would come out to Camping World this evening to fix my chip.

And sure enough he did!  He was happy that the rig was facing into the sun as he said that was necessary for the resin to set.
IMG_6144He was a little concerned about the oncoming storm, though, so decided to do the repair before calling my insurance company.
IMG_6140It’s a good thing he did, because shortly after he left, the skies opened up and the rain began.  We did contact GMAC, and the repair is covered without any further cost to me.  Sweet!  It’s about time something went as planned.  :) 
IMG_6146I thought I’d include a picture of one section of this Camping World to give you an idea of how many rigs they have for sale here.  That’s a lot of inventory!

  1. We used a mobile chip repair service down in AZ and it worked out well for us also. That sure was a lot of rigs on that CW lot. Wonder how long it will take to sell them?

  6. Yes things are looking up for you glad your insurance covered it. Now perhaps the rest of your parts will come in a little early and you can be on your way.

  8. Well, guess it's a good thing all those crowded in units are empty there at Camping World. Can you imagine if they were filled with people. Soon you will be on the road again & your long delay will be just a memory to talk about around a campfire someday.

  9. Do you suppose all those rigs for sale mean the economy is looking up a little bit? Glad you got the chip repaired before it turned into a real mess and the windshield needed to be replaced. Now we'll wait to hear that the rest of the work is done so you can get out on the road. Hopefully before it snows up that way - just kidding.

  10. o.k., I'm confused. You said this guy was sitting under a sign saying "free windshield chip repair". So, if it was 'free', why did you have to contact GMAC to see if it was covered?

    I know there's a simple answer to this as nothing is really 'free' - how could this guy make any money if he's doing this for nothing? Just curious.

  11. I had the same question as Rick.

    Funny, when I was at an RV show recently, the sales men kept saying how low the inventory of used RVs was getting and we should "buy now!" Of course I just ignore such talk. We will buy when the time is right for us.

  12. We had a break fixed in our wind shield not too long ago, and found it worked really well. If you keep this up, you will soon have a brand new rig. Just sayin....

  14. I'm guessing that "free" means "free" to the RV owner, since most insurance companies will "repair" a chip at no cost to the RV owner; i.e. no deductible.

    Glad things are looking up for you. I'm sure you are bored, but I'm enjoying the photos you are taking.
