The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

THE GOOD:  There was actually a lot of “good” about today.  Emma and I were on the road just minutes past 8:00, as planned.  There were no winds, and we made it to the RV repair place in Idaho Falls shortly before 10:30.  Since we weren’t going anywhere, they took the rig right in.  :)

After three hours, we were back on the road and headed for Mountain View RV Park just outside of Arco, Idaho.  I think the total trip today was about 170 miles.  Since I’ve got about two weeks or so and about 600 total miles to cover, I decided to stay at this park for a week.
IMG_3606This is the view from my site.  Those are numbers on that mountain.  Each year, the High School graduating class  etches their year into the side of the mountain.  So far, the oldest year I’ve found is 1955, but I’m sure I’ll find an older date when it stops raining.  I’ll give more details of this park in a later post.

After doing the basic set up, Emma and I took a walk, and found these goats in the field right behind us.  The goat on the left seems to be the leader of the group.  Of course, Emma was very excited to find “wildlife” bigger than ground squirrels.  :)  (get a load of those horns!)

As we walked along the fence line, the goats came galloping after us.  They were very interested in us.  I found an apple tree and picked up a few drops to give to them.  They seemed to be pleased with the treat.  :)

THE BAD: While the techs at Smith RV in Idaho Falls took care of a few minor things for me, they could not fix the washer/dryer, couldn’t do an oil change, couldn’t diagnose the problem with my erratic steps, and told me the surround sound was just fine.  Yea, right!  I asked to have the tech show me that the surround sound was working.  He couldn’t.  We both worked on it for about an hour and eventually got it to work if I am watching TV using local channels through the antenna, but that’s about it.  (I got the impression that I knew more about the entertainment system than he did, which is kind of scary)  Doesn’t work with a DVD, and tonight I found out it doesn’t work with the DISH.  Guess I’ll have to make a trip to Winnebago headquarters in Iowa one of these days.  :(

THE UGLY:
_MG_3619I really don’t want to talk about this one.  Suffice it to say, that I made a real boo boo today!
Dang!! :(

Thanks for stopping by….talk to you later,  Judy

  1. Oops! Sorry about that boo-boo. Doesn't look too bad, though.

  2. I hope you don't feel too bad. About this time last year I tore off a big piece of my 5th wheel's sidewall, and survived!

I just love watching goats, and thanks for the pictures. Did Emma ever get nose to nose with the goat through the fence? You have to wonder what they are thinking about each other.

  3. Try to focus on the good!! I know, I know, can I follow my own advice?? Not always.

I feel sure you will get things fixed at the Winnie factory. Its just a shame you have to go there to get what should have been done at a dealership.

    I won't ask...but boo-boos happen!

  4. Your boo boo ouchy looks fixable. It's just the inconvenience involved to get it done somewhere. I am always 'picky' about sound quality as well.

  5. Ouch, but it doesn't look to bad and you can still drive it where you want. At least you will have something to do in a small town with maybe a rasonable body shop, that looks like mostly straigtening and paint from here. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna.

  6. Sorry about the "boo boo". It's just another little bump in the road. You'll get over it and back on that wonderful road. Take care!

  8. We have a Winnie also, and your comments on the surround sound system caught my attention. Since the coach was new, my sound system needed work. The way it is set up now, it works only with the DVD player.

That is the way is has been wired up. The idea was that I cannot not get true surround sound from the antenna or the satellite anyways. I have no idea if that is actually true.

I am sure that the audio from the ant and satellite could be piped thru the system but would it just be more speakers or real surround sound?

I believe that if you want audio thru the speakers from all sources, then the key is the hookups in the back of the switch box.

  9. Looks like the dent will be easy to fix. Probably won't require any replacement parts! That is good. Looks like body shops will be on your List of places to visit!. If you don't like the estimate at one, try another.

    Dress poor.

I have a body shop that will charge the maximum if it is an insurance job, but hardly charge me at all if I'm self pay. Ys, I done a few small dings in my time!

  10. Sorry for the oops to your toad. At least it looks driveable and that's a good thing! Enjoyed the goat photos. Near here is a sign which says "For Sale - Fainting Goats" Apparently fainting goats can appear to "faint" or sorta zone out if surprised, etc. Still brings a cute vision, though...

  11. That's what insurance is for. It can be fixed to look as good as new. Accidents happen.

  12. Give the goats a drink from a bottle of beer...It worked for us in Memphis...Doesn't it really suck that you go to someone for help, and you end up knowing MORE than they do?? Dennis A.K.A.McGuyver encounters that LOTS!! Nasty little superficial indentation..(nice talk for OH CRAP!)...enjoyed your blog...
