Yesterday morning while I was out walking Emma, I chatted with a woman that I later assumed was one of the owners. She had two questions for me. First, are you the lady from that nice looking rig? And then, :), you drive that thing yourself? To which I answered yes, and I do. At the end of our conversation, she wished me a pleasant stay in their campground.
Later that evening while I was giving Emma a furminator treatment outside in the 97* heat, a man drove up in a pickup truck, and asked me the same questions. Then he said, “I bet you’re wondering who I am”, and then proceeded to tell me he owned the campground, and after talking to his wife, just had to stop by to meet me. Sheesh! I guess I must be the first solo female they’ve had stay here. Word travels fast in this small community where most of the folks are here for the season or are road construction workers here for the summer.
Since I was talking to the owner, I asked if I could cross the forbidden line of the dog walk to get some pictures of the Snake River today. He said, “Sure thing, go down by the Jacuzzi for the best shots.” Those stairs lead down to a deck with their personal Jacuzzi overlooking the river. What a nice view of the valley.
So, this afternoon, Emma and I did just that. You can just barely see the first school bus of the year smack dab in the middle of the picture. It was the first day of school today, and that bus was bringing a load of students back home. I bet those kids were all hyped up! :)
I have a neighbor next door now that moved in yesterday afternoon. He is another road construction worker, and you should have seen him back his very seasoned 35’ Avion trailer into the tight squeeze of a site. He was towing it with his huge diesel work truck, and didn’t have much room to spare in any direction. I was staring out my front window watching him thinking…”don’t hit my home!!!” I needn’t have worried. Those guys make child’s play out of backing up a rig and putting it exactly where it is supposed to go on the first try!
It turns out his wife’s name is Judy, and she watches the grandkids while he moves around the state with the Avion doing his mechanics job. He volunteered to come over tonight to look at my errant awning, and tapped on my door a little while ago. Of course, the dang thing worked like a charm with only a little hitch before deploying. :( He couldn’t find anything wrong with it, so tomorrow I will try putting it out before the metal heats up in the morning.
This is the view of the campsites from a bench under the shade of the trees along the perimeter walk where I take Emma. I haven’t been inclined to try to do a panoramic stitch yet, but this would have been a couple of good pictures to try it on. :) If you click to enlarge on the left picture, you can see my rig just to the right of the tree trunk. It’s the only non-white RV in the park. Now, if RICK would only teach me how to add arrows and things to my pics, I could have pointed it out. :)
Thanks for stopping by….talk to you later, Judy
Your description is as good as an arrow - I found it right away!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the "You drove this thing?" comments. When we pulled in here late the other night, our neighbor asked almost verbatim that question. My patented response is, "You bet. Dave likes to ride and I like to tow!" Where we are in Cherokee is not where we will be working. We are just taking a "vacation" before we start work in South Carolina. Thanks for askin' though! See ya!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are becoming a celebrity.
ReplyDeleteCelebrity...yes! Can I have your autograph? :)
ReplyDeleteMore beautiful pics. What a fantastic place that state of Idaho! So much beautiful scenery most everywhere you go. Enjoy your stay there.
I didn't know that you were such a trend-setter, Judy. You are paving the way for solo women RVers! Wait until the owners find out that you are a Blogger, too.
ReplyDeletewhat a lovely place to park for a while!!!
ReplyDeleteWith pictures as good as yours, Judy, why would you want to spoil them with arrows?
ReplyDeleteSure looks like a nice campground.
After traveling with my single RVers group for a long time, where half are women, I get really amazed that some men think that for some reason, women are incapable of steering. Pisses me off!
ReplyDeleteJudy take it from a gal that has never driven our rig (I can't touch the petals even with the seat all the way up) I'm impressed with all of the females out there driving the Big Rigs.
ReplyDeleteLook'sike a nice park and it also look's like you got good neighbors and owners, that always helps if something does go wrong, even when you a guy it helps to have help in this world. Tell Emma hi from Rigg's , Be safe out there, Sam & Donna.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Roberta..The only way I would drive the Hiker is if I had to make no turns and go forward....piece of cake, right?? I think Idaho is one of our most secret treasures...fabulously beautiful..shhhhh, don't tell anyone.
ReplyDeleteI have to drive our rig all the time. Don has had 2 strokes and has lost his ability to concentrate for very long. He still does short drives and does ok. People always act amazed that I can pull the fiver; I drove a semi, so why wouldn't I be able to pull this. Your pictures are again fantastic. Nice Park.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning, Just wante to say hello and answer your tailgate question. We needed an airflow tailgate to help with the drag. It is suppose to help with drag when towing and improve fuel mileage too.
ReplyDeleteWe will see if it really makes a difference. Stay Safe
You amaze me!! I did not even want to drive the truck when we had a camper let alone the 5thWheel that came later. I always knew I should learn though but never did ☺
ReplyDeleteThat does look like a beautiful place to visit. Thanks for sharing the pictures... I'll be the only driver someday soon, too. Of course my Little One and I will have a Class C, so no one will be amazed by that! Maybe the fact that I'm a single-parent-fulltiming-roadschooler will bring me a small measure of notoriety... I want to be famous too!! (big grin)
ReplyDeleteKerri in AL :-)
I thought Idaho was a land of pioneer women or at least cowgirls. Nothing to that rig there little lady! You should see my 4'11" inch younger sister drive a semi out of the field during harvest.
ReplyDeleteYou're making quite a name for yourself! I know who to come to when I need some lessons! Gosh, are you just good at EVERYTHING you do??? K
ReplyDeleteNext time someone asks you if you drive that thing, then you should say, "Of course I do. It's against the law for Emma to drive!"
